Update: DEAD
Get a one-time $20 statement credit by using your connected Amex card when you spend $100 in one or more transactions online at Staples.com by 12/31/16.
For example:
-A $100 Visa gift card will be $86.95 shipped with this offer (13.05% off)
-A $100 and a $25 Gap Inc eGift card will be $80 shipped with this offer (36% off)
-Or you can get 20% off other gift cards.
This is not valid in stores.
-You can enroll on AmericanExpress.com or on Twitter with: #AmexStaples
Follow the steps below to sign up for this offer via Twitter:
1. Signup for Twitter and you can save money with AMEX.
2. All you have to do is sync your American Express card with your twitter account to save money at rotating stores.
3. Then paste #AmexStaples and then click tweet. Then wait a minute and you should have a message in your notifications bar that you have successfully enrolled along with the offer terms.
You can register all of your primary and secondary AMEX cards on Twitter, it just entails either: Unsyncing and resyncing cards via this link or making a Twitter account for each card. If you do unsync and resync multiple cards on the same Twitter account you must change the tweet slightly each time like:
#AmexStaples
#AmexStaples 1
#AmexStaples 2
And so on.
When resyncing there is no need to fill out your billing address, just fill out the first half of the form with your name, email, and your credit card number.You can skip the optional fields asking for your billing address, card expiration, and the 4 digit code. You can use the same email address for all of your cards.
Forgot which card you registered? Just unsync and resync.
You can even bulk tweet for all of your cards with multiple Twitter accounts via TweetDeck.
You can also check to see if you have this offer in your account by just logging in to your AMEX account, click on any of your cards to go the activity page, click on “AMEX Offers For You,” and save the offer to your account.
If you also have multiple cards with the offer don’t rush to save the offer to your account! Open up the Offers page for each card in a separate tab in the same browser. Then go between the tabs to save the offer to each of your targeted cards. Otherwise once you save the offer to one card it disappears from your other cards.
You can also register your secondary cards for their own AMEX login and register each of those cards as well.

works with visa gc?
can i buy a gift card and still get $20 back?
no HT?
@Mendy:
Yes.
@shosh:
Yes.
@Ben P:
There is one. Do you have an earlier one?
@Dan:
certainly the first one on the deal/deals request page. Just trying to contribute and not always be a taker!
There is currently discounted Gift Cards on Staples.com for a better deal – for example: 200.00 Banana Republic Gift Card for 160.00 – use Amex and its like getting it for 140.00.
wouldn’t it make more sense to but $100 gift cards and pay the $6.95 fee? Why buy $300 gift cards to get the same $20 back?
I opened multiple tabs on my iPhone and opened the pages to the Staples offer for each of my cards. When I started clicking on the Staples offer after about three or four cards all the other tabs automatically refresh themselves and the Staples offer disappeared. Is this something new? I’m used to doing the multi tab process on a PC.
@Bill:
Because the offer is not valid on EMAIL gift cards
shosh: the only exclusion is “Excludes Staples branded e-gift cards” – the banana republic and/or gap is not a Staples branded card.
Would calling staples to buy a $300 Visa card and splitting it on 3 separate Amex cards work to get the $20 back on each card?
@Bill: I bought a 100+25 Gap e-gift cards for $100.00, got the congratulation email already.
How fast do you have to click through the multiple tabs in order to save the offer on multiple cards? I tried this once and was locked out of other cards quickly after the 1st one was accepted?
@shosh: This offer works for NON-Staples eGC’s. But for Staples GC’s it has to be a real mailed GC NOT an eGC.
Do authorized users without accounts have the ability to open an account and get this offer?
What do you do if you don’t know which twitter account you linked your card to? Can you go from card info-> twitter account info?
Staples no longer sells eBay gift cards??
Avi: thanks! Thats exactly what i did too – and got my congratulations email almost instantly! Great savings all around!!
As a bonus to this deal which i like to call the “Triple Dip” – (if you are an Ibotta saver):
100.00 Banana Republic Gift Card + 25.00 Gift Card (Total Cost with Discount = $100.00) – Get Back 20.00 from Amex.
Ibotta: 5.00 back when you spend $50.00 at Banana Republic
Ibotta: 5.00 back when you spend $35.00 at Banana Republic Factory Outlet Store.
It says ‘Excludes Staples branded e-gift cards’. Does that refer to staples gift cards specifically, or are ALL gift cards bought on staples.com ‘branded’ as staples gift card?
@Pghtown:
Works best in Firefox.
@joeB:
Staples specifically.
Can I buy the visa gc and then pay my cc with it? best way?
Nice one! thanks Dan and mazeltov on your achievement last week!
I second that!
Thanks Dan, received the $20 credit.
Offer is full.
Did anyone have any of their secondary cards targeted? I only saw the offer under my primary cards.
“Sorry, max # of Card Members have enrolled in #AmexStaples offer. Visit http://amex.co/faves for more offers”
Got this Tweet…..Sorry, max # of Card Members have enrolled in #AmexStaples offer.
Looks like staples website is down, probably because of the huge gift card purchases LOL
Of course I rushed to get this deal on a couple cards and now cant remember which of my Amexs I used. With the deal dead, how I can figure out which of the Amexs has the deal?
@Josh:
If they have a registered AMEX.com account you can see which offers are saved to each card.
I added the Amex offer to all 5 of my cards and when I tried to test it on my Amex Hilton by buying a $100+25 Gap e-gift cards for $100.00, I never got the congratulations email from Amex? This is the first time that this has happened, so please LMK if anyone else has had the same problem with this deal? It may be because the charge is still showing as “pending” on my Amex login?
why would a 100 plus 25 gap card be only 80 dollars? is there some other code i’m missing?
thank you
Any way to buy a $200 Visa card and then split the payment using two SPG Amex cards? Would be great to avoid the $6 fee on each of two $100 cards.
