anyone know the diff between this and the cable internet i am getting from cablevision?
Offer via bill credit for new residential High Speed Internet customers with Verizon voice, subject to credit review. $79 early termination fee. Other charges and terms apply. Rate may increase after 12 mos. Offer valid through 1/16/10.
1megabit per second?
Doesn’t that seem excruciatingly slow??
I moved out of my old office building because all they had available for data was a T1, which maxes out at 1.5mbps. Heck, my EVDO connection can go that fast…
vrizon voice required
Too bad verizon doesn’t offer internet service in Brooklyn…Or am I wrong?
What router are they including for free?
The wi-fi router you mention is probably a DSL-only wi-fi router. Meaning that if you switch to cable afterward then the “free” router will be basically useless and you will need a different router then.
Aside for DSL being far slower than cable (though certainly far better than Dial-up) you will also be paying taxes on the DSL, so even if there are no taxes during months 1-6 (which I doubt), there will be taxes in months 7-12, which will probably make it more like $25 per month. There will probably also be an “activation fee”, making your monthly price even higher if you amortize that fee over the 12 months.
Instead, see if you can get a real Internet connection (like cable or FIOS, meaning 10 mbps or higher) for a $30/month trial, tax free and no activation or other baloney charges and no need to mess with the ancient phone lines. And when you switch to VOIP you’ll have no phone issues either.
@josh: Keep the cablevision; it is much faster and you don’t need to futz with filters on your phones and fax, et al.
Does this dsl work in Israel ?
Josh, I think this is much slower than cablevision. Cable gets 10-15mbps downlink, this is advertsising 1.
To put it into perspective, cell phones with 3G access can go faster than that.
i just switched from verizon dsl to cablevison and i love it. dsl is horrible!
@Brian:
There is also a 3MBPS offer for $5 more per month which is plenty fast for normal users.
Yes it’s not for users who need blazing fast internet, but for everyone else this is a very cheap price for DSL.
@SA:
You’re comparing apples and oranges FIOS is probably $50/month.
For some that’s worthwhile, but for others this DSL deal is cheap and plenty fast.
Also why do you think the route will be for DSL only?
what are the best brooklyn options for dsl?
years ago i got verizon dsl with free router. it was a dsl modem with built in wireless router. so this prob the same. i got cable now but my year promo is ending. any good deals for phone web??
tax is a killer
cable rocks
@Anonymous:
Verizon has FIOS in some parts of Brooklyn, it depends on the actual block. They are working on getting it all over.I am waiting for it.
@brooklynite:
FiOS is expensive PLUS theres tax!
cable is good and no tax
ok everyone first u dont pay tax on dsl u pay only on a the land line phone. with optimam u have voip for phone so there is no tax and no tax as well on the internet also the verizon wifi modem does not work with cable it two diffrent tecs. also cable is is faster even if u have the “fast” dsl as far as fios thats a whole diff ball game thats fiber optics and much faster but more expensive… enjoy
cable advertises at 15mbps, but for Brooklyn with cablevision you’ll be lucky to get 2mbps. go to speedtest.org and see for yourself…
