Dan,
I got the Hyatt Diamond Trial a month ago, when you first posted it and I immediately sent Starwood my Hyatt credentials for a Platinum upgrade status match and I just received the following Email today (obviously I didnt tell them it was only a trial of diamond they must have ways of finding that out on their own):
“Dear Mr. HSS,
We want to thank you for contacting us again regarding the upgrade of your Starwood Preferred Guest account by status match.
As a Trial Diamond Level member with Hyatt Gold Passport we are willing to make an exception in this case. What we can offer you as an alternative, is an option for an aggressive stay challenge. You can choose to meet the stay challenge that Hyatt Gold Passport has offered you and become a Diamond Level member of Hyatt and we will match this level or you can choose to meet a stay challenge that we are offering you. Should you meet 20 eligible stays or 40 eligible nights by November 15, 2009 we will upgrade your SPG account to the Platinum level. We will be more than happy to upgrade your member status to Platinum once the stays and/or nights have posted to your account. Counter to our policy, we will extend this exception to you. Once you have met the stay challenge please contact me directly and I will upgrade your account.
Once the account is upgraded, this will be a one time only exception. From that point on, you will need to meet the minimum requirement of 25 eligible stays or 50 eligible room nights per calendar year in order to re-qualify. Please let me know, at your earliest convenience, if you agree to this arrangement so that I can properly document your account.
If there is any thing we can assist you with, please do not hesitate to contact one of our Starwood Preferred Guest associates at 888-625-4990. Thank you for your time and patience, and your continued patronage of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide.
Best Regards,

Any advice on what I should do from here?
Should I try to press the issue and get the upgrade from the trial, or do you think that it is an exercise in futility?
Even it I accept their challenge I highly doubt I’d be able to fulfill it. Thanks in advance for your input and I hope you are enjoying your trip!!!!
Where did you read about the canadian starwood info? I have the card and I want to know more…
Thanks
@HSS:
What did you send them that indicated that you were a trial member??? I ver highly doubt that they asked Hyatt if you were trial or now.
Dan,
The only thing that could possibly have tipped them off that I was a trial member was that I sent them a print-out of my Hyatt Online Summary showing that I was Diamond, but it also said that I had zero stays, so that is I guess how they may have figured it out. What advice do you have for me if any? Try again from scratch? or do you think once it is in the notes it may be too late? Thanks for all your help
