Signup bonus:
For a limited time only, you can earn 80,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points for opening a Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card and spending $4,000 in 3 months. Those points are worth a minimum of $800 cash back or $1,000 towards travel and other categories, but they can be worth much more as shown below.
Additionally with this limited time offer, you’ll get a $50 grocery statement credit upon opening the card. Your first $50 in grocery spending will be automatically credited back. You have 12 months from account opening to use your grocery credit.
You can signup for this highest ever public offer here.
The end date of this offer is not yet published.
The previous standard signup bonus offers on this card have been 40K, 50K, or 60K points for spending $4,000 in 3 months. The limited time offer for this card last year was a record 80,000 points for spending $4,000 in 3 months, but it didn’t come with a $50 grocery credit.
Chase no longer matches Sapphire card offers if you signed up with a lower offer.
Also available is a 60,000 point limited time offer on the Sapphire Reserve card.
Annual fee:
There is a $95 annual fee for the primary card and no annual fee for additional cardholders.
Signup bonus terms:
If you received your last Sapphire bonus on 3/22/17 or earlier, you are now eligible to earn another Sapphire bonus!
- You won’t get approved for this card if you have received a signup bonus on Sapphire Reserve, Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card, or Sapphire card within the past 48 months. You can call Chase to find out when you last earned a bonus on those cards or you can pull up your old statements online to check when you last got a bonus.
- You won’t get approved for this card if you currently have an active Sapphire Reserve, Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card, or Sapphire card. However you can change those cards to a Freedom Unlimited or Freedom Flex card, wait a few days, and then apply for a Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card .
- You can apply and Chase won’t pull your credit or approve you if you are not eligible to get the card bonus.
5/24:
All Chase cards appear to be subject to 5/24 restrictions, meaning that you are not likely to be approved if you have been approved for 5 or more consumer credit cards in the past 24 months. Note that the Chase system automatically counts cards like authorized user cards and store cards as cards that count towards 5/24, but if you explain to Chase that those cards are merely authorized user cards or store cards they can manually approve you for a new card.
You can check your credit report for free at the federally authorized annualcreditreport.com to check how many accounts are shows as being open in the past 24 months.
Card earnings:
- 2 points per dollar on travel, including airfare, hotels, car rentals, cruises, subways, trains, taxis, tolls, parking, Airbnb, Uber, etc.
- 2 points per dollar on dining.
- 5 points per dollar on Lyft spending through 3/31/22.
- 1 point per dollar elsewhere.
- There are no foreign transaction fees.
Through 4/30/21 you can also earn 2 points per dollar on groceries, including grocery pickup and delivery. The bonus is capped at $1,000 in monthly grocery spending.
Spend Threshold:
You’ll need to spend $4,000 on this card within 3 months.
You can pay your federal taxes for a 1.96% fee. If you overpay your taxes you can request a refund or apply it to your next year’s taxes.
My local natural gas company allows me to prepay up to $1,000 on a credit card for a $1.65 flat fee. That’s a great way to earn miles and help meet a spend threshold. My electricity supplier allows me to pay with a credit card for free as long as I am enrolled in autopay.
Card benefits:
- Primary rental car CDW insurance in every country.
- Trip Cancellation/Trip Interruption Insurance
- Lost Luggage Insurance
- Trip Delay Reimbursement
- Baggage Delay Reimbursement
- Travel Accident Insurance
- Purchase protection for items damaged or stolen within 120 days
Peloton Credit And Bonus Points:
Charge your Peloton membership fee to your Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card and you’ll automatically get $60 back through 12/31/21.
Make a Peloton purchase of $1,800+ and earn 5 points per dollar spent through 3/31/22!
Increased points value:
If you or someone in your household has a Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card you can redeem Chase Ultimate Rewards points earned from any card at a value of 1.25 cents towards paid travel.
If you or someone in your household has a Sapphire Reserve card you can redeem Chase Ultimate Rewards points earned from any card at a value of 1.5 cents towards paid travel.
Pay yourself back:
Back in May, Chase added the ability to pay yourself back and redeem your Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card or Sapphire Reserve Ultimate Rewards points to offset any dining, grocery store, or home improvement purchases at a rate of 1.25 or 1.5 cents per point through 9/30. They also added select charities to the program, which you can offset your donation with points.
Chase has extended those categories through 4/30/21 9/30/21 and tells me that Pay Yourself Back will be a permanent feature of the Ultimate Rewards program, and that they will add more cards and categories for the program in the future. This adds a ton of value to the Ultimate Rewards program as you can buy anything from those stores, even gift cards to other stores, and make them free by redeeming points at a value of 1.25 or 1.5 cents each. The ability to get that kind of value from your points even when you’re not traveling is outstanding.
A great feature of the program is that you keep the original points that the purchase earned, even though you paid yourself back for the purchase. That means your points will be worth more than 1.25 or 1.5 cents each!
In other words, if you spend $300 on groceries or dining on Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card, you can use 24,000 points to offset that purchase and make it free. Plus, you’ll still earn the 600 points for groceries or dining, so you effectively used 23,400 points to offset the purchase. That means your points were actually worth 1.28 cents each!
If you spend $300 on groceries or dining on Sapphire Reserve, you can use 20,000 points to offset that purchase and make it free. Plus, you’ll still earn the 900 points for groceries or dining, so you effectively used 19,100 points to offset the purchase. That means your points were actually worth 1.57 cents each!
Airline and hotel transferability:
If you or someone in your household has a Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card you can transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points into valuable airline and hotel mileage currencies.
Card convertibility:
You can call Chase to convert this card or any of the following cards into another card from this list:
- Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card ($95 annual fee)
- Chase Sapphire Reserve® Card ($550 annual fee)
- Chase Freedom Unlimited® Card ($0 annual fee)
- Chase Freedom Card ($0 annual fee)
- Chase Freedom Flex Mastercard ($0 annual fee)
Note that some reps will only allow card conversions after you have had the card for 12 months.
If you or someone in your household has a Sapphire Reserve, then your points will be worth at least 1.5 cents towards travel!
If you want to get a Sapphire Reserve, your best path is to apply for the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card and then convert it to a Sapphire Reserve as you’ll get 80,000 signup bonus points+$50 back instead of 60,000 points!
Killer Combos:
Stacking multiple Ultimate Rewards cards together can supercharge your earnings by getting you more points per dollar while increasing the value of all your points.
Read more about this strategy in depth in this post.
A Chase Bifecta would consist of a household that has the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card or Sapphire Reserve and the Freedom Unlimited. The total effective annual fees would be either $95 with Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card or $250 with Sapphire Reserve after accounting for that card’s $300 annual travel credit. With the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card+Freedom Unlimited you would earn 1.5 points per dollar everywhere, 2 points per dollar on all travel, 3 points per dollar on dining and drugstores, and 5 points per dollar on travel booked via Chase. You’ll be able to transfer all of your points into airline miles or hotel points or use the pay yourself back feature. Read more about Freedom Unlimited here.
A Chase Trifecta adds a no annual fee card like Ink Cash or Chase Freedom Flex into the mix, so your total effective annual fee will still be $95 or $250. Both of those cards give options to earn a whopping 5 points per dollar in various categories on top of the 2-3 points per dollar that the Sapphire cards offer and the 1.5-5 points per dollar everywhere else with a Freedom Unlimited card. Read more about Freedom Flex here and read more about Ink Cash here.
A Chase Quadfecta would add both the Ink Cash and Chase Freedom Flex on top of a Sapphire card and an Unlimited card, so your total effective annual fee will still be just $95 or $250. The Quadfecta is the sweet spot and allows you to really supercharge your spending everywhere.
A Chase Quinfecta could add the Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card to that mix, adding $95 to the annual fee total. This make sense if you spend money on shipping, social media advertising, or search engine advertising, or if you want free cell phone insurance.
Alternatively, you can create a Chase Quinfecta by adding the Chase United Explorer card, United Gateway℠ Card, or Chase United Business Card into the mix. Those cards don’t earn Ultimate Rewards points, but it makes your Ultimate Rewards points more valuable. Having a United card enables you to have access to significantly expanded United saver and standard award space in addition to benefits like 2 free club passes, a free checked bag, a free carry-on bag, and priority boarding, even when you’re on a basic economy fare. See more about those benefits here.
Again, all of these cards don’t need to be in one person’s name. 2 people from the same household can split up the requisite cards that make up the Quinfecta, as they can transfer the Ultimate Rewards points back and forth between themselves freely and they can add each other as an authorized user on their cards!
DoorDash DashPass Membership:
DoorDash DashPass allows you to get free delivery and lower service fees on $12+ orders from select restaurants that have a blue checkmark. There are also lots of promotions and free food offers available to DashPass members.
DashPass normally costs $9.99/month.
If you add your Chase Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card® Card to your Doordash account and open the Doordash app, you can enroll for free through 12/31/21!
Airline transfer partners:
You can transfer points at a 1:1 ratio to:
- United (Star Alliance)
- Singapore (Star Alliance)
- Air France/KLM Flying Blue (Skyteam)
- British Airways (OneWorld)
- Aer Lingus (OneWorld)
- Iberia (OneWorld)
- Emirates
- JetBlue
- Southwest
- Virgin Atlantic
Hotel transfer partners:
You can transfer points at a 1:1 ratio to:
- Hyatt
- IHG
- Marriott
The great thing about Chase Ultimate Rewards is how versatile and valuable they are:
The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card allows you and anyone in your household to transfer Chase points into miles. They also allow you to use points at a value of 1.25 cents each towards travel.
The Sapphire Reserve also allows you and anyone in your household to transfer Chase points into miles. Plus it allows you to use points at a value of 1.5 cents each towards travel.
The fixed value is excellent and doesn’t require hunting down award space, but those points can be much more valuable by transferring them into airline miles or hotel points.
- If I want to stay in a 5 star Park Hyatt in the Maldives, Melbourne, NYC, Paris, Sydney, or Tokyo that would cost over $1,000/night, I can instantly transfer 25-30K points to Hyatt to do that, a value of up to 6 cents per point.
- If I need a one-way flight from Cleveland (or Chicago, Detroit, Miami, Montreal, Orlando, Pittsburgh, Toronto, etc) to NYC that can cost $500 each way, I can instantly transfer 7.5K points to British Airways to book a short-haul on American with no last minute booking fees. Or if American doesn’t have availability I can instantly transfer 10K points to United for their short-haul award. That’s a value of up to 7 cents per point.
- If I want to stay in a non-chain hotel that costs $300/night and don’t want to pay cash, I can redeem 20K points for the room thanks to my Sapphire Reserve card’s minimum redemption value of 1.5 cents per point or 24K points with the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card ’s minimum redemption value of 1.25 cents per point
- If I want to fly in a $25,000 ANA First Class Suite round-trip from the US to Tokyo, I can instantly transfer 110K or 120K points to Virgin Atlantic. That’s a value of up to 23 cents per point.
- If I want to book a $2,281 business class ticket on Air Canada to Tel Aviv I can redeem 152K points for the flight thanks to my Sapphire Reserve card’s minimum redemption value of 1.5 cents per point or 182K points with the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card ’s minimum redemption value of 1.25 cents per point, plus I’ll earn Qantas miles for more future travel as it’s considered a paid flight instead of an award flight.
- And thousands of other possibilities from Singapore couples suites to booking Southwest awards with 2 free bags and free cancellations, to stealing 2nd base in middle of an MLB game.

i dan I just applied for the 60k. How can i get them to match
You can try writing a secure message and/or calling, but Chase wouldn’t match offers for previous Sapphire limited time offers.
Let us know how it goes!
I tried asking for a match via SM and was denied. Is there a point of trying by phone/email or in the branch?
Can’t hurt to call.
I referred my husband and he applied on March 11, which was a day before pre-announcement of this hit the blogs. He got card on March 22, which happened to be his birthday. We have been Chase customers since the early 1980s.
Called Chase before activating, asking to be matched. Denied with flat NO, not possible.
Late at night sent secure message asking and again was denied.
Looks like Chase is not going to match recent applications to this offer.
I secured message twice and called once. They wouldn’t budge. I applied a mere two weeks before the offer increase. PS: I hate that all the bloggers bump this 80,000 post to the top of their feeds so I get to be reminded every day 🙂
Hey Dan,
“You won’t get approved for this card if you currently have an active Sapphire Reserve, Sapphire Preferred, or Sapphire card. However you can change those cards to a Freedom Unlimited or Freedom Flex card, wait a few days, and then apply for a Sapphire Preferred card”
I shut my sapphire reserve account today, and this issue happened to me however I called them and they told me it wouldn’t work in a few days as well you must wait 30 days from when you last shut your other sapphire account?
Any suggestions? Should I just try again in a few days?
Try again in 2 or 3 days.
Hey Dan,
I Just tried again after waiting the 3 days you advised, I got just approved via your link, Thank you!
Happy holiday.
Side note – would you know why when you send a “refer a friend link” to receive an additional 15k bonus, it only offers them 60k plus the $50 grocery statement credit? Why are they offering 20k less then the public offer?
Congrats and thanks!
They don’t offer the same bonuses via referrals.
I don’t know where to post this, so I’ll mention it here. If you have a TD Bank account, you can get the TD Double Up Card with 2% cash back. https://www.td.com/us/en/personal-banking/credit-cards/double-up/
Citi Double Cash is more valuable and versatile if you want 2% cash back with more potential upside:
https://www.dansdeals.com/credit-cards/citi-double-cash-card-earn-2-cashback-everywhere-option-transfer-miles-via-citi-trifecta-united-business-class-israel-42k-points/
https://www.dansdeals.com/credit-cards/citi-double-cash-citi-rewards-no-annual-fee-cards-become-even-valuable-versatile-2-4-2-67-back-gift-cards/
Then again Freedom Unlimited+Sapphire gets more than 2% back.
What about Fidelity 2%? What upside does Citi have? Fidelity has a signup bonus
As the linked post above says, Citi gives you the potential option to convert the 2% cash back into 2 miles with extremely lucrative mileage programs like Turkish that aren’t partners with other banks.
No reason not to collect signup bonuses, but that doesn’t mean it’s worth continuing to use it.
Yeah good point
.015*1.25 = 0.01875 for sapphire preferred. How’s that more than 2%? Don’t tell me about miles and stuff bc this is a cash back discussion.
For cash back, I’m referring to Sapphire Reserve.
But yes, 1.5 miles can be significantly valuable than that.
What do you mean by freedom unlimited plus sapphire do I need both cards?
Read the “Bifecta” section of this post.
What credit score is needed for this?
There is no published minimum score requirement.
Is there a known expiration date in this offer? I’d love to push it out a little.
“The end date of this offer is not yet published.”
Not that 50 bucks makes such a difference when you need to spend $4,000, but does the $50 grocery charge count toward the $4,000 spend?
Yes.
FYI: Chase now has a tracker to show you how much more you have to spend to hit bonus
Is this card hard to get approved for as a first time cc application? Just turned 18… Thx
It may be easier to start with some beginner cards.
https://www.dansdeals.com/credit-cards/credit-cards-points-start-need-know-best-credit-cards/
If I am a secondary card holder for sapphire preferred would I be eligible for the bonus
Yes.
so you can have under same household someone with CSR card that got the bonus less than 48 months ago, and one with a secondary CSR card holder that can apply for the CSP and get the 80k points?
Yes
Hi Dan, my wife is an authorized user on my Saphire reserve can she apply and get this offer?
Yes.
Thanks Dan, applied through you and got approved
Congrats and thanks for your support! 🙂
Applied yesterday for a 60k offer 🙁
I got an email when I applied: We have received your request for a Chase credit card. We’ll let you know our decision as soon as possible.
Should I call chase? if yes what the numbers for reconsideration?
Probably wait it out and then call if you need to, unless you need it urgently.
The same thing just happened to me
did you end up calling them or waiting?
I didnt get any message or call from them, the next day I checked my account and I had another account, and got the card already
Generally speaking, how long do these promotions last for?
The last Sapphire Preferred limited time offer lasted about 7 weeks.
Boom!!! Just approved. One of the best sign up bonuses ever! UR pts worth $3k plus when maximized! Read the post! Thank you
Congrats!
Dan,
Do you think if I closed 3 chase cards 6 months ago (4 months after opening them) and I apply now for this offer I am risking a shutdown?
Thank you,
Typically not a good idea to close cards within a year of opening them. Why did you do that?
wanted to avoid annual fees, would you apply now or wait?
You could have kept the cards for 12 months and done the same thing.
Can’t offer advice here, sorry!
These days its better to pay an annual fee for 1 year, and only close or downgrade once the next year’s fee appears on the statement before the due date and it will typically be credited back. Gone are those “hit and run” days.
Correct
I recently ( like 3 months ago)got this card am I eligible for the 50$ Grocery?
https://www.dansdeals.com/credit-cards/wow-highest-ever-signup-bonus-earn-80000-points50-grocery-credit-chase-sapphire-preferred-card/#comment-1522014
I currently have sapphire reserve for 5 years, if I downgrade, can I change back to reserve right after being approved?
That would work if you downgrade to a Freedom product.
I have both Freedom cards and the Reserve. I may be out of 48 months. Any ideas for downgrading? will they give me another Freedom or are there other options?
You can get another Freedom.
Or you can get a Freedom Unlimited or Freedom Flex.
If I already paid the annual fee. How does that work? I would like to upgrade after downgrading and getting approved.
Does this help? https://www.dansdeals.com/credit-cards/wow-highest-ever-signup-bonus-earn-80000-points50-grocery-credit-chase-sapphire-preferred-card/#comment-1522164
“You won’t get approved for this card if you currently have an active Sapphire Reserve, Sapphire Preferred, or Sapphire card. However you can change those cards to a Freedom”
If I downgrade and don’t get approved, can i upgrade again? Would I need to wait?
Yes. No.
Thank you!
“You won’t get approved for this card if you currently have an active Sapphire Reserve, Sapphire Preferred, or Sapphire card. However you can change those cards to a Freedom Unlimited or Freedom Flex card, wait a few days, and then apply for a Sapphire Preferred card.”
How many days? And then I upgrade the CSP back to CSR once i get the 80k? Or do I upgrade the freedom back to CSR?
3 days should be fine.
You can upgrade either to CSR, though you may need to wait 12 months to upgrade a newly opened card.
Nevermind.. I’m 5/24 till September!
Then that means if you upgrade the Freedom to go back to CSR, you’ll have two Sapphire cards at that point which isn’t allowed, right? Can you downgrade the newly opened CSP to then be able to upgrade the Freedom to a CSR?
You can have multiple Sapphire cards, you just can’t get approved for a new one if you have an active one.
I have a CSP and called chase to upgrade my freedom unlimited to the CSR and they said that I can only have one sapphire card at a time. Is this true? or HUCA?
HUCA
In order to get bonus, Is it 4 years since approval or since signup bonus which was 4-6 weeks later?
Bonus.
Hi Dan,
I gave my brother my Sapphire Preferred referral link, but he’s only seeing a 70,000 pt sign up, when it should be 80k.
How do i fix that?
You don’t.
But feel free to share the 80K+$50 link in the post 🙂
Dan – the link isn’t working. Can you please repost?
Sorry, I meant it doesn’t go directly to the card application. Is it supposed to?
It goes via our partner site, and we appreciate using those links!
Understood. Approved via your partner site. Thanks!
I am not sure if it is 4 years yet. Will it hurt me to try applying?
No
Thank you Dan! Applied through your link, and was approved instantly.
(Thanks for the heads up last week)
Awesome, congrats!
Which heads up are you referring too ?
DDF
you wrote “it appears” on 5/24. im over 5/24 – but the last time i signed up and got a bonus for any chase card was when the reserve came out. in novemebr i downgraded to freedom. you think i got any chance of getting approved?
Nothing to lose by trying, they won’t pull credit if you don’t qualify.
ok great! at least chase has that policy, thats fair thing to do.(off topic_ i remeber a while back when citi AA would just approve you only later to find out you cant get the bonus, then later on they just said if you not eligible for bunos were just not going to approve you at all-yea good i had some good fights with them, good times! i think i ended up squeezing 20k aa miles out of them once.)
i applied. “unfortunately, we are unable to approve your application” should i call? or just leave it?
Can’t hurt to call, but unlikely to get it.
If I get a denial by mail, is it easier to be approved by reconsideration?
confirmed reason for denial. to many cards in recent years.
HUCA. Tell the rep in your opening sentence (before he puts you on hold) that you don’t want MORE Chase credit extended to you. But could they move credit from your existing Chase cards to open the new one.
Would it make sense to apply for the csp for the higher bonus and then convert it to a csr for higher redemption value?
Sure, but you may need to wait 12 months to upgrade.
YMMV.
How long did the 80k bonus offer last the last time around? have to wait till june 1 for my 48 months to be over.
About 7 weeks.
To clarify, does this card give cash back for the points earned (like the Freedom cards), or are the points only good for travel redemption?
Thanks!
Yes, you can get cash back, though you’ll earn more cash back by paying yourself back:
https://www.dansdeals.com/credit-cards/wow-highest-ever-signup-bonus-earn-80000-points50-grocery-credit-chase-sapphire-preferred-card/#Pay_yourself_back
filled out whole application, timer thingy went round and round telling me to have patience while they confirm my info.. then it timed out. (I didn’t sit and watch it the whole time). Should I apply again?
Try calling Chase and see if the application went through?
Will someone get the 80k bonus if I refer them to get the referral bonus?
No
I downgraded my card and I received this bonus about 9 years ago and It told me “Unfortunately, we are unable to approve your application”
Why would that be?
Call and ask.
Thanks Dan. Which Chase number is best to call for this?
Do you know how many times I can try applying? Does it show up on the credit score etc?
I spoke to Chase and they told me that I have a Sapphire account open with them already.
I did downgrade that card yesterday. I guess I need to wait a few days before Appling next time.
That’s why I said in the post to wait a few days… But no harm, there’s no pull for that.
You can try again in a few days.
maybe your 5/24
I don’t think its that
I just downgraded my CSR (my heart is still racing) as it’s been around 50 months since my last sapphire offer. If I get the CSP, get the bonus, will I be able to upgrade back to CSR. I will be close to 600k points at that point and I want to maximize the 1.50 redemption vs 1.25.
You can upgrade your Freedom card back to CSR any time. CSP to CSR is up to the rep, some make you wait 12 months.
Ok great. Thanks Cuz now I am going to have 2 freedom unlimited cards. I’ll convert my older one to CSR.
May as well have a Freedom over 2 CFUs.
Im on the same boat here where I want to downgrade my CSR and then upgrade my CFU back to the CSR… if I do this, will I be charged a new annual fee for the CSR upgrade?

I applied and was approved (through your link of course!). I am not sure if it was 4 years yet. If it approved me , does that mean that I am eligible for the signup bonus?
It does. Congrats!
Hi Dan, got denied when I called them they said that I got a bonus in 2018 but I didn’t get anything in 2018 but my wife got it in 2018 and I was an authorized user on her account and possibly got the 5K bonus for adding an authorized user, is this enough to disqualify?
No, call back and ask for details on what bonus you got.
Hi, I called them they said that they can’t see any details on the bonus only the dates but he claims that getting the 5K bonus for being an authorized user means getting a bonus for a sapphire product and I can’t get approved, what can I do about that?
Was that a bonus that you earned or your wife earned?
I’d ask for a manager if you didn’t earn the bonus.
My wife earned for adding me as an authorized user.
Will try to call again
Will the 100k offer ever come back?
CSP ($95/year) never had a 100K offer. 80K+$50 is the highest offer ever.
CSR ($550/year) had a 100K launch offer in 2016 which is highly unlikely to ever return. It’s never been higher than 50K for the past 4 years until yesterday’s 60K limited time offer announcement:
https://www.dansdeals.com/credit-cards/earn-60000-points-chase-sapphire-reserve-card-highest-signup-offer-since-launch-offer/
when is this offer till date
“The end date of this offer is not yet published.”
Do they ever publish it?
They do sometimes. Other times they just pull it without an announcement.
Hi,
If I downgrade my reserve in order to get this promotion, when will I be able to upgrade it again? Only after getting the bonus?
And when will they charge the annual fee for the re-upgraded card? Right now the fee would be in September.
Thank you.
You can upgrade at any time. You’ll get a pro-rated refund when you downgrade and a new fee when you upgrade.
Thanks.
When I upgrade again, would that give me a new $300 travel bonus for 2021?
I should look on the forums for this?
Hey Dan. I dont see you post about the 10 off 20 from cvs using a qr code. Expires in a couple days. I can add a data point that it works on a amazon gc.
I have CSR and will downgrade to CFU in order to get CSP. Once I get it I would upgrade the CFU back to the CSR but would I say on schedule with my annual fees and other benefits (is it the same renewal date)? Thanks in advance.
https://www.dansdeals.com/credit-cards/wow-highest-ever-signup-bonus-earn-80000-points50-grocery-credit-chase-sapphire-preferred-card/#comment-1522296
Thanks. Sorry didn’t see that. The new fee will be $450 or $550?
$550
@Dan, and they gave you back $100 of this $550? Is that what you were referring to in the other post about chase refunding?
Was that something else?
Can I downgrade my sapphire preferred to a flex and still get the bonus if I already got the 50k bonus last year?
You can only earn a Sapphire bonus every 48 months.
Does anybody know if i can call chase reconsideration line while application is pending or must wait for denial?
You can do either.
Can we make a huge email with everyone who just signed up and got 60000 and send it to chase?
I currently had the CSP. On Tuesday, when 80,000 pt bonus promo was released, I called Chase and downgraded it to a Freedom Unlimited. I waited until today, Friday (3 days later), and reapplied online for a new CSP with 80,000 sign up bonus. Was approved instantly for New CSP with 80,000 bonus. After spending requirement, I’m looking at 84,000+ pts for 3 days of patience without a CSP.
-All per Dan’s recommendations in his above post. Thank you Dan!
Well done!
If I’m an authorized user on someone else’s account, do I need to cancel that card first before applying?
No need to do that.
How long does it take to receive the card and start using it?
Applied and was approved through your link! Thanks for everything you guys do
Any suggestion? My activity for the past 3 years was only business ink sign up or cancel just after the next yearly fee. What can I tell them if I call?
It seems like CNN is reporting that pay yourself back has been extended through Septtember.
My wife already has the reserve and I’m eligible now to get a sapphire again this is probably the best time to get a sapphire or should I hold out
Definitely take advantage of this now.
Dan, I only have the Freedom card and it looks like the Pay Yourself Back program only gives me the options to redeem for charities. Any chance that they will add categories to the Freedom card in the future?
Unlikely. Why not apply for a Sapphire card?
Overall, what do you think is a better offer? The Preferred for 80K, or the Reserve for 60K?
80K+$50>60K 🙂
Can always upgrade later.
Yes, but it can take a year to upgrade, and in the meantime Pay Yourself Back only gives you 1.25 vs 1.5 for the Reserve…
HUCA until you get a rep that will upgrade you.
Or just upgrade your Freedom card if you strike out there.
Good idea about upgrading my Freedom, but then I’d have 2 cards with annual fees…
You can always downgrade again.
Can there be any consequences to all this upgrading and downgrading?
I haven’t heard of any.
If the Reserve’s 60K is worth .25 more, then that gives you the equivalent of 75K compared to the Preferred’s 80K.
Still 5K less
Hi Dan
I have a simple question:
I have a sapphire now. Should I downgrade to freedom and then upgrade to sapphire again in a few days?
Approved through your link!
Thanks for the afikoman present!
Congrats and thanks!
If I upgrade from a freedom unlimited to chase sapphire preferred will I get the sign up bonus?
No, you need to apply for a new card.
And just confirming that they won’t do a hard credit pull unless I’m eligible?
Correct
If I’m a Yeshivah bachur how much should I say my annual income is?
You can include parents income in household income if you live at home.
I though you mentioned before you have to be a certain age to do that?
On the other hand, if you’re under 21, you can only count “personal income” from your job, scholarships, or grants. You can’t include your parents’ income unless they cosign for the credit card (which is usually not recommended). And we also wouldn’t recommend counting your student loans, because they’re another form of debt — and in most cases they don’t qualify as income.
And monthly housing payment?
Didn’t get approved, oh well
No instant approval for me either, but called the next day and just needed to move credit from another chase card to get approved. Easy call.
What number do I call
I need some help.
I downgraded my CSP to Freedom Flex.
Waited 2 days and applied using your link, instant approval.
Then, tried the same for my wife, but, forgot that she is authorized user on my old CSP card.
Chase denied. No credit was pulled.
Called and spoke with lending services (analyst) and they refused to budge.
I have removed my wife off of my card.
How long does she have to wait before she applies again? Or should she call the lending services in a few days and plead her case again?
Thank you!
Being an authorized user on someone else’s Sapphire doesn’t stoop you from getting approved for your own.
So your wife’s denial was for a different reason.
One would think that, but, unfortunately it is not true.
They are not allowing my wife’s application to go through.
I have to wait it out basically until that card falls off her credit report.
Can I apply for a second one if I have one already ?
I got shut down by chase a few years ago do you think they will accept me now?
Where do I get more value: with ‘pay yourself back’ now or wait and use points for travel once world opens up again?
Applied thru your link and got approved.
Thanks!
Any way to sign up for both sapphire cards?
Does the 2 browser method work anymore?
Or should I apply to one and my wife for the other?
What does one write down on the application if was recently unemployed? Asking for a friend
If I have the Chase Freedom Flex, can I convert it to this card or the reserve? Then, apply through your link for one of them also? Suggestions are appreciated.
I missed the last big Sapphire bonus because I was still within 48 months from getting one. I applied a few days ago for this one and didn’t get instant approval. I spent a few days gearing up to give them a call to shift credit, when I saw a new card in my Chase account! It made me happy enough to come back here and kvell!
Congrats!
Wife signed up for CSR in March 2017, received the 100k bonus in May 2017. She canceled that card back in 2020, because it wasn’t worth us both shelling out for CSRs.
She just applied for CSP today. Denied. She’s only gotten two new CCs in last 24 months, so I don’t think this is a 5/24 problem. Any idea what might be going on?
“You won’t get approved for this card if you have received a signup bonus on Sapphire Reserve, Sapphire Preferred, or Sapphire card within the past 48 months. You can call Chase to find out when you last earned a bonus on those cards or you can pull up your old statements online to check when you last got a bonus.”
@dan I applied for my wife and got denied. Recon said it was due to too few accounts open – when I applied I forgot that all her cards are AUs from my cards so she doesn’t actually have any of her own (had I remembered that I wouldn’t have tried applying for this as her first card.) I sent in additional documentation that was requested and it is still denied.
Any point in trying HUCA with recon?
Probably not.

I currently have a sapphire reserve card. I bought some tickets for a vacation for my family and I was relying on the emergency medical insurance in case anyone gets sick on vacation. My question is if I downgrade to get the sapphire preferred and upgrade again after I get approved, before I go on vacation. will I still be eligible for the emergency medical insurance? Thank you
As long as it was a CSR when you bought tickets and when you travel, should work.
Thank you
6k credit line … Is it safe to swipe 4k in first month
Dan, when you upgraded back to CSR at $550, did they give you back $100 due to covid? Is that what you were referring to in the other post about chase refunding?
Was that something else? Thanks
Hi Dan, I joined through your website, was wondering if gift cards from amazon, or other companies, count towards the $4,000 in 90 days. Thanks for your help
They will!
thanks
I have a CSP from years and years ago. If I downgrade to a Chase freedom, is it possible to ask them to just transfer part of my credit allowance from my existing card to a néw card? Not sure I would qualify for more credit since I’m a student now. Also, how hard is it to close the new card- I don’t like having multiple cards open.
Yes.
You can downgrade to a free card or cancel. Not hard at all.
Downgrade first. Open a new CSP. Move the credit, then cancel.
But downgrading to a no-annual fee card like the Freedom, might not be too bothersome to keep open. And then there’s the quarterly bonuses you might be able to take advantage of.
Hi, Dan. I recently got the Chase Ink Unlimited. I reached the spending limit of 7500 today, April 15. I sent a secure message to chase, and the said I had until Apr 13th to reach the threshold. I did not receive the card until January 29th. Is there any point of even reaching out to Chase on this ? Or is it a lost cause ?
Of course you should.
I messaged them back. They replied and admitted that I have until April 15th. I guess they didn’t see the pending charges, because they then said that since I am a valued customer, they are extending the time until May 8th.
Great!
HI Dan! i got approved for this product 4 weeks ago with the 60k offer, any point trying to HUCA or to SMS them to match me to the currant offer? anyone hade success matching? thanks for your advice!
I have not heard of any success stories.
Hi Dan if I apply for A new credit card will it affect when I will apply for a mortgage
It should not make a difference.
Not entirely accurate.
You can apply before you begin the application process and they submit your info to the underwriting department.
If you have a new credit application after you were already approved by underwriting, they’ll need to look into your file again to see that your debt to income ratio hasn’t changed. Then they’ll submit your file to underwriting again.
This is all well and good if you qualify comfortably. If however you’re just scraping by, by the skin of your teeth, then your ratio may have changed slightly, and it might be enough to disqualify you.
Good luck!
Besides for the obvious issue of having another credit inquiry and another new account on your file, which will push your score down by a couple of points.
This usually won’t make any difference, but if your score is on the borderline between 2 interest rates, you may want to hold off. (they provide different interest rates based on whether your credit is good, very good, or excellent. I think it’s something like 720 is good, 720 to 760 very good. Your bank may vary. Ask the broker).
IMPORTANT: they’re looking at fico 2 for this score, NOT the later models. You can see this info for free by signing up for a free one week trial of experian.
Just got instant approval through your link.
Thanks Dan and JJ for everything you do
Congrats and thanks! We appreciate it!
Will upgrading same card to csr get the credits again?
I applied a week ago and i didnt recieve any email,so i called up and they told me that they have to check the application manually and they will send me a respons with 1-2 weeks,Iasked them if they need any verification and they told me no .they told me its pending and we will send you a answer via mail.Does that usaully mean accepted or not accepted?and do you think i should try and apply again?
Try calling back next week.
How long after being approved does it usually take to receive the card? I’ve been waiting over a week.
Should take a few days, try calling?
Do I need to cancel my CSR in order to qualify for the bonus? I am already past the 48 month mark
“You won’t get approved for this card if you currently have an active Sapphire Reserve, Sapphire Preferred, or Sapphire card. However you can change those cards to a Freedom Unlimited or Freedom Flex card, wait a few days, and then apply for a Sapphire Preferred card.”
Hi Dan:
My husband has the Sapphire Reserve and I am the AU. Can I apply for the Sapphire Preferred, although I rely on his income to qualify? I am a stay-at-home mom.
Thanks!
Yes, you can include all household income.
I have a chase freedom card and called to upgrade to sapphire reserve but they said i would not be entitled to the sign up points and benefits unless I reapply and go thru the application process.
Of course.
Applied for my wife online, got denied. (Forgot that all her cards are AUs from my cards so she doesn’t have any cards of her own.)
Spoke to recon a bunch of times, no luck. Was told that since it’s a premium card she won’t be able to get it as her first card.
A week later applied again through a pre selected mail offer. Got instantly approved!
Any way that still works to get the card number before the card arrives in the mail?
@Dan I have the sapphire reserve, just got approved for my wife through your link.
Thanks
Congrats and thanks!
do you get the points as soon as you reach the 4k or at the end of 3 months?
On the statement close with the 4K spend.
Hi Dan,
Can I pre-pay my auto loan using western union and get credit for it
Dan, I have the CSR for about 4 years and will apply for the CSP in my wife’s name. If so can we combine our points.
Thanks.
Yes you can with anyone in your household
Application needs further review. Is there anywhere to check online without calling?
Hi Dan,
I opened a reserve in Feb 2017 and have since closed the account. I do not know when I got the rewards posted in my account and since the card has been closed over 6 months, I can not retrieve the statements online. I would just like to find out when the bonus points hit my account so that I can apply for this card. Do you know how I can find out this info? I tried calling and they told me they do not have this info either.
Thanks!
If you closed it and didn’t downgrade it I don’t know of a way to check.
However you can always apply and if you don’t qualify the system will auto-reject you without a hard pull.
Thanks. I doubt the points would have hit my account within 2 months. I will wait until they announce an end date for the promotion and try on one of the last days.
Also, the rep said they do have a department that can answer this. They only have a fax number and an address, only two ways to reach them. I passed on the info to try and contact them.
I don’t see the $50 Grocery Credit being advertised anywhere in the benefits?
can you please confirm a source?
is it the first $50 refund? did anyone actually receive it?
Clear as day:
https://www.dansdeals.com/go/CSP80/
Yes, you get a refund for the first $50. Easy-peasy.
Thank you
Hi Dan, does the 50$ grocery credit and “pay yourself back” work in Israel?
Yes
I messaged chase and they said the Pay yourself Back program ends 4/30/21..?
Nope.
https://www.chase.com/personal/credit-cards/sapphire-preferred-benefitshttps://www.chase.com/personal/credit-cards/sapphire-reserve-benefits
HI Dan, All of my pay your self back charges has a big red 4 next to it, so is it till 4/30/21 or till 9/30/21
It will be extended to 9/30.
And i wont lose the old charges?
No, you can always go back 90 days.
I followed up with Chase with the link that you posted, and after a few days they replied that my Pay yourself Back will end 4/30, but new accounts might have the 9/30 date.
Uninformed rep.
A few years ago I applied and was denied, after transferring a few thousand dollars to my chase account I applied again and was approved, now my wife was denied, transferred a few thousand to her account and she got approved.
will i get approved for the sign up bonus if i already am an authorized user on someone else’s account?
yes
They only won’t approve/ give if you, yourself have gotten a Sapphire signup bonus in the last 48 months.
Hey Dan- how long would i have to wait if I apply/get the preferred with the 80k points to upgrade to reserved – and do the points automatically transfer over?
You can try asking when you get the bonus points. The points transfer automcatically.
hi dan, just wanted to ask if I have a chase freedom unlimited and sapphire prefered in my household which chase card do you think we should get next to get the best killer combo as you call it prefer something without an annual fee and easy to get approved thanks so much
would like to hear the answer on same question please?
Sounds like you need an old fashioned freedom card…
Dan I applied as a sole proprietor and have the business as less than a year old. Gave my social as my tax ID. They now want Proof of legal name and physical address for business and Proof of federal tax id for business. Can I just upload my driver’s license and ss card and satisfy all of the requirements? (I submitted that my business address is the same as my personal) thanks!
Did you your exact name as the business name?
Yes.
Have documentation from Chase that received last bonus on 4/25/17 and don’t have active CSP or Reserve now, only Freedom. Applied for this deal on 4/26/21. Denied. When calling up Chase they responded that denial was because received bonus in past 48 months, which can be proven as untrue, based on their own written documentation in my account. When I then messaged Chase as such from my account, sending them their own written proof asking why, proving that it as more than 48 months, received response: we forwarded your message to the appropriate department for review. You should receive a response within seven business days.
Any advice/tips why this happened?
I received “We need to review your request a little longer. Please do not submit this request” Has anyone received this and then gotten approved?
Don’t wait for them. Call.
Have your reason they should approve you and why you really want this card, on the tip of your tongue. Tell them before you’re put on hold.
Yes, I called and just needed to move credit from another card, then was approved.
Thanks, Dan! Just got it in the mail today. It’s a heavy metal-infused card and I couldn’t wait to feel all-important when I hand it over to a salesperson or cashier. Then I realized: when was the last time I actually handed over a credit card to anyone (other than my wife or kids)?
ANNUAL FEE…. is now on the list of pay yourself back catagories ( on the reserve card )
I received a preapproved email from Chase for this card, when I logged in to my account the following is what it says:
you’re already approved for a Chase Sapphire Preferred® card.
Because of your relationship with us, we’re able to customize options that fit how you bank.
I’m an additional user with spouse, should I cancel first? is this a guarantee?
Also, can I use your link to apply?
No need to cancel an AU card.
You can use the link in this post and you’ll get approved as well 🙂
Used your link and got approved! Thanks Dan
What happens to your points if you cancel after a year?
Thanks Dan! Was denied at first but recon worked after shifting some credit lines from other cards!
Dan, you wrote “If you received your last Sapphire bonus on 3/22/17 or earlier, you are now eligible to earn another Sapphire bonus!” Aren’t you eligible as long as your last Sapphire bonus was over 24 months ago?
Never mind, i see it says 48 months.
Dan, you mentioned “However you can change those cards to a Freedom Unlimited or Freedom Flex card, wait a few days, and then apply for a Sapphire Preferred card.” How long do you actually have to wait after changing? Is there a set time? Don’t want to risk applying too early…
Thanks!
The one u were talking abt before was 80k. Now it’s 100k points right? The one U posted on the bottom is updated? Just making sure I understand correctly because I didn’t sign up yet. Ty
