Earlier I wrote about new restrictions on Marriott/Starwood bonuses.

Marriott will be keeping track of bonuses and enforcing cross-bank restrictions on all of their cards.

At some point, most likely next year, the Chase Marriott Consumer card and the Starwood AMEX Consumer card will no longer be offered to new customers. The JPMorgan Ritz-Carlton card has already been discontinued for new customers. The remaining cards will be the Chase consumer card, the AMEX consumer luxury card, and the AMEX business card.

Here is the full roundup of restrictions that will apply to all Marriott and SPG cards starting on 8/26 that will stop you from getting a signup bonus:

Chase Marriott Rewards Premier Plus Consumer Credit Card ($95/year):

  • You have a current Chase Marriott consumer card
  • You have received a bonus on a Chase Marriott consumer card in the past 24 months
  • You have the SPG Consumer AMEX or had one within the last 30 days.
  • You have or had the SPG Consumer Luxury AMEX or SPG Business AMEX and got the bonus on one of those cards within the past 24 months
  • You were approved for any SPG AMEX product within the past 90 days.

Chase Marriott Rewards Premier Plus Business Credit Card ($95/year):

  • You have a current Chase Marriott business card
  • You have received a bonus on a Chase Marriott business card in the past 24 months

Starwood Consumer AMEX ($95/year):

  • You have or had a Starwood Consumer AMEX.
  • You have or had a Chase Marriott Consumer card or JPMorgan Ritz-Carlton card in the past 30 days

Starwood Consumer Luxury AMEX ($450/year):

  • You received a signup or upgrade bonus for a Chase Marriott Consumer or Business card in the past 24 months
  • You have or had a JPMorgan Ritz-Carlton card in the past 30 days
  • You were approved for a Chase Marriott Consumer or Business card in the past 90 days

Starwood Business AMEX ($95/year):

  • You have or had a Starwood Business AMEX.
  • You have or had a Chase Marriott Business card in the past 30 days
  • You received a signup or upgrade bonus for a Chase Marriott Consumer card in the past 24 months
  • You were approved for a Chase Marriott Consumer card in the past 90 days

With all of these restrictions, I think I’d rather Marriott had just chosen one bank to work with…

Wow I’m dizzy. Do you see any advantage to closing any of the older cards?

Sold out

What do you recommend to those with Starwood AMEX cards? What are the pros and cons of keeping them instead of switching to the Marriott card?

Shmiel

5/24?

Rick

This doesn’t apply to authorized users, right? Just the primary?

Maifriend

In short, apply now for one of the cards in bold characters if you meet the conditions for that card. You won’t get the sign up bonus if you apply after 8/25.

Sam

If I have the Amex SPG personal card & Amex SPG Business Card, but none of Marriott card, will I I still be eligible for the signup bonus of the new Amex SPG Luxury card?

Stephe.

If I currently have Starwood business card but received bonus over 2 years ago am I still eligible?

Eve

Is the Marriott premier plus consumer part of the 5/24? What about the business card is it part of the 5/24?

Dave

Yes, it’s part of 5/24. I got rejected when I applied while they were running the 100k bonus, even though my credit score is 834. I called the Chase reconsideration line twice and that’s what they told me.

Shlomo

When is the spg luxury card coming out? Before 8/26?

Too complicated

With all the fine print, they’re gonna be pissing some applicants off…. and royally!

Devorah

It’s weird that they won’t allow you to get the Marriott business card if you have the SPG consumer card.

wondering

@Dan Do you have any idea how they plan on enforcing these rules? Will Chase and Amex share your SSN with each other and say “This SSN already got the bonus on the SPG card”. Or do you think there will be a loophole such as opening new marriott accounts with different addresses?

Shlomo

How does this apply to people who have Starwood Amex cards in both Canada & USA

John

I can see this being the year that IHG takes off.

Jim

I’m interested in the new Luxury SPG card but I violate several of the restrictions for bonus. So basically I have to hope they offer the card before August 26? My guess is they’d hold off to try and keep chutneys restricted. Thoughts?

Me

If I had the spg personal and business from amex how should I go by to get future Marriott rewards cards
