You won’t get the welcome bonus on the Chase card if:
- You have or had an active Marriott AMEX in the past 30 days.
- You were approved for a Marriott AMEX in the past 90 days.
- You received a points upgrade offer from a Marriott AMEX in the past 24 months.
Card earnings:
- 2 points per dollar everywhere
- 4 points per dollar on up to $15,000 in combined purchases on restaurants worldwide and at U.S. supermarkets (Chase card earns on supermarkets worldwide).
- 6 Marriott points per dollar at Marriott hotels.
- There are no foreign transaction fees.
Anniversary night:
Surprisingly, these cards don’t come with an automatic free night.
Cardholders that spend $15,000 per year will receive a free night valid at hotels that cost up to 50K points. Anniversary nights expire 12 months after they post to your account, though Marriott will typically offer a 12 month extension if needed.
You will also be able to add up to 15K points to the certificate to use it at hotels going for up to 65,000 points per night.
Gold Elite Status:
This card offers Gold Elite status, which gives 25% bonus points, 2pm late checkout, a points amenity, and more.
You’ll also get 15 elite night credits for having the card.
You can stack that with 15 elite night credits for having a Marriott business card to reach higher elite tiers.
AMEX Offers:
Earn statement credits at stores that you register for in your AMEX account.
Spend threshold:
You’ll need to spend $4,000 within 3 months.
You can pay your federal taxes for a 1.87% fee. If you overpay your taxes you can request a refund or apply it to your next year’s taxes.
My local natural gas company allows me to prepay up to $1,000 on a credit card for a $1.65 flat fee. That’s a great way to earn miles and help meet a spend threshold. My electricity supplier allows me to pay with a credit card for free as long as I am enrolled in autopay.
Airline transfer bonus:
You can transfer increments of 60K Marriott points into 25K airline miles or 27.5K miles with United.
Additionally, airlines often have their own bonuses for hotel point transfers.
Marriott has dozens of valuable airline transfer partners, such as Aegean, Alaska, American, JAL, Qantas, and dozens more!
Miles from these airlines can be very valuable and hard to get from other sources. For example JAL miles allow you to book awards on Emirates, AA, and BA with discounted or no fuel surcharges as well as mileage bargains. Alaska miles opens up bargains on airlines like Cathay Pacific and Qantas with no fuel surcharges and they allow 2 free stopovers on awards.
Premium internet access:
Cardholders get free premium in-room internet at Marriott hotels.
Card Convertibility:
You can convert the Marriott Bonvoy Bevy AMEX to the Marriott Bonvoy AMEX with a $95 annual fee or Marriott Brilliant AMEX with a $650 annual fee. Converting or cancelling within 12 months may cause a clawback of your bonus points and status.
You can convert the Chase Bonvoy Bountiful card to the Chase Marriott Bold card with no annual fee, the Chase Boundless Bonvoy card with a $95 annual fee, or the JPMorgan card with a $450 annual fee.

Quick thoughts:
To be honest, I’m not sure who the target market for these mid-tier cards are. Had the 50K annual night been automatically awarded annually, one could certainly make the case for these cards, but having to spend $15K to earn it makes these cards seem less valuable than the lower tier and upper tier Marriott cards. Do you see value in these mid-tier cards?

Why in the world would anyone get these cards and lose the annual free night and pay 155 more for the honor???
5/24 for the chase card?
Worth it to get the JPM Ritz card?
Same question???
how much is 125,000 points worth?
In your ” welcome bonus terms” number 3 you only include upgrade bonus within 24mo but in the actual t&c it also includes new signup bonus
Is that a mistake?
