if i open a card will i get it in time to use it for the free $25 promo? how many additional cards can i get on one account?

different

I see u write updated offers from wht I read these offers are around pretty long for instance the spg offer is for 25 k thts around since the 30 k was downed

Dan

@chaim:
If you apply now you should get it on time for the 11/26 free money promotion.

I don’t think there is a set limit of how many authorized user cards you can have on your account, but you may raise some level of suspicion if you open up too many too quickly.

@different:
The improved Starwood Consumer offer has been out for a little while now, but the business offer was improved to the same offer more recently.

The first 3 cards were all improved yesterday and the Gold Business card offer ends later this month.

Yidel

Dan, firstly thanks for the info.
Secondly, you always mention how the best card to spend on is either the Starwoods or the Premier Rewards Gold, but now that you mention the above amazing Blue Cash cash-back offers, which ones then do you think are worth more spending on?

Do you think it’s worth using the Blue Cash just for grocery spending, and the above 2 for everything else?

Just wondering what are your thoughts, thanks in advance!

Dan

@Yidel:
No problem.

Life used to be simple. I put everything on my Starwood card. The points were worth the most, and I got AMEX’s top-notch dispute resolution, return protection, and warranty extension on every purchase.
I transferred all my American Express Membership Rewards points from opening the charge cards like Premier Rewards Gold and Platinum into my Continental account.

Now everything is far more complicated. I have to find new ways to keep up a healthy Continental balance, like with Chase Ultimate Rewards. And more and more cards are coming out with spending offers to compete with Starwood.
The combo of Chase checking along with Freedom, Sapphire Preferred, Ink Bold, and Ink Classic with either their bonus categories and/or unadvertised bonuses for just having a checking account make it extremely difficult to know what charges to put on what card!!!

The Blue cash card is also a very compelling offer, especially at grocery stores for the purchase of gift cards.

Any app designers out there want to make an app to let people know which charges to put on which card if I feed them the variables?

Yitzi

Starwood card — 10,000 after $1 plus 15,000 after $5000 = 25,000
how do u get to 30,000?

Dan

@Yitzi:
25,000 bonus points+5,000 points for the base spending will give you a total of 30,000 points.

Yidel

@Dan:

A) Why do you transfer everything to CO, all eggs in one basket? You can always transfer later to any airline, no?

B)I know you’ve mentioned in the past the deal with linking Chase checking with the Freedom and Sapphire Preff., but how do the Inks now come into the picture? Do they also some how link in?

C) Random: is transferring to Flying Blue currently the cheapest way (miles) to get to Israel using Starwoods?

Thanks.

Dan

@Yidel:
A. I transferred them all to Continental before 09/30 as that was the cut-off date. You can no longer transfer membership rewards to continental and I value Continental miles much higher than I do any other airline miles.

I have 7 figure balances in AA, Continental, Starwood, Hyatt, and Hilton, so I don’t think I suffer from all eggs in a basket syndrome 😉
Gotta love the credit card game!

B. Ink Bold now gives 1.2 miles per dollar on all purchases if you also have chase checking. Spend 25K and that goes up to 1.5 miles per dollar, spend 50K and it’s 1.65 miles per dollar, spend 100k and it’s 1.675 miles per dollar.
And miles can be transferred to Continental/United, Hyatt, and others.
I value Continental miles at 1.9 cents each, so you’re talking some hefty rebates on that card.

I’m not sure yet if Ink Classic gives 1 or 1.2 miles per dollar, but it does give 5 miles per dollar on wireless, landline, cable, internet and office supplies and 2 miles per dollar on gas and hotels.

C. Probably the cheapest overall, but not the easiest as you are limited to Delta low availability if you are trying to avoid surcharges.
Then again there’s tons of availability for 12,500 each way promo awards now but those come saddled with fuel surcharges.

Yidel

@Dan:

Regarding A & B, cool, your amazing!
You must be spending a heck a lot of money!
But, for the average shmerel like me, i think it’s quite a bit more difficult to reach such a status, we’re the type that can only afford to go for the CC offers that are for spending $1 or $500, maximum $5K, but otherwise… 🙁

Re. B) Seems like those Ink offers still heavily pale in comparison to that Blue Cash Pref. ..

Dan

@Yidel:
Spending? Hardly…let’s just say I organize and keep my credit cards in stacks of each airline or card type…

You’re not going to beat Blue Cash Preferred at the grocery store, but for everyday spending they do make a run for the Starwood card.

Yidel

One more q., you wrote that the CO and UA cards are the only ones to give CDW -Car rental Insurance, but you then go on to write about those 3 Citi World Master Cards that give you CDW in Israel, but wouldn’t that mean then that they give you CDW here too, so then shouldn’t they be on the list also together with the Chase CO & UA?

Thanks!

Dan

It’s time for you to head to http://www.dansdeals.com/forums where you can search and you will find that all of these questions have already been asked and answered.
And who knows, maybe you will even learn there how to spend $25K without actually spending anything!

yidel

Problem is, to find an answer to my question for example about the starwoods or PRG, I’d have to search among a few hundred threads and then among a few thousand posts!

Been there, done that, for a somewhat non targeted question like the one I have, it’ll take sorting through tons of threads till I find an answer, I just don’t have so many hours to dedicate top solving one question…

Yakov

Dan,

This may be stretching your expertise a bit but is there a way to buy amazon gift cards online? I spend a lot there and can’t imagine them holding a bunch of $100 gift cards on the counter in cvs..

thanks!

Yakov

i mean online on a supermarkets website (to get the 6% cashback). and how do we know what classifies as a supermarket? amex’s site doesn’t list them. are all pharmacies included?

Levi

Dan – I can’t seem to find the offer code for the Starwood Consumer either in the fine print or the link – need it to try and get them to match since i am on the $15k/6 months deal..

fred

@yidel
Maybe….or be mechadesh a new way how to “spend” without spending. Each one has its shelf life untill the wsj or others write up about it. So we always need new chidushim.

lee

If i had a starwoods card and i canceled it recently because i did not want to pay for the 2nd year fee. would i be able to sign up again and get the points and the first year free again?
also if i can does it hurt my credit if i keep canceling a card after the first year?

Joseph

Hi Dan I have the Amex platinum can I get the offer for Amex business gold rewards and get the 50,000 points and if yes how do I go about doing it thanx I love ur ideas

Wants100k

@Dan
I was approved for the platinum card this week. Any ideas about getting that 100k bonus with ID 5748. Do u know what ny chances are and what the best way to get around would be??
Just wanted to tell you Dan that you are the most generous and sharing person I ever knew about! Keep it up!!!

lee

@Dan:
Thank you for that information i did not transfer my credit line. I am calling them now to reinstate the card then transfer the credit line then cancel it after.lol

also when you say sometimes it would not work would they tell me that before they approve me or would i just have to wait and see if i get the points?
(how do you do it through a new mileage #)

Dan

@lee:
There’s no way to find out beforehand, it’s just luck. The american express charge cards and most chase cards when using a new number are much more of a sure thing.

You just open a new mileage account with the hotel/airline. You can always merge the accounts later on.

lee

@Dan:
ok thank you.maybe ill look out for a new promotion besides starwoods to forsure get points.
i just signed up for the chase saphire perferred i already made there spending limit to get the points.so looking for another to build up points in other areas as well.
(also you think that i canceled and reinstated it would affect my credit?)

Dan

@lee:
Do you have both a Starwood consumer and business? You can definitely do both of those.
And I’ve gotten bonuses on both of those multiple times, it’s just not a sure thing.
Apply for 3 AMEX and/or 3 Chase cards with the 3 browser method and you’ll only get 1 credit pull from each bank so it won’t even matter if it works for you or doesn’t work.

chaim y

on the delta gold is there a percentage you get after the 500 spending?

lee

@Dan:
no i only have a consumer one can i open a busness one with out having a business?

i am not familiar with the 3 browser method is there a link i can read on it more?

Dan

@chaim y:
percentage of what?

@lee:
If your name is Lee Smith you can open up a card under Lee Smith Sole Proprietorship using your social security number in lieu of a Tax ID number. I’m sure you’re sold something on ebay that would help you out to have a business credit card…

I currently have the Blue Cash that gives 5% on gas, groceries and pharmacy after spending $6500. Do you think they will give me the $150 bonus if I change to the Preferred?

AMEX50K

@dan
Thank you for your advice and i shouldnt have to much hope for the 100k however should i hope to get 50k
if so whats the best ID i should try to use to get that…
thankx dan

yehuda

quick question-if you have the chase preferred sapphire card.
1)if your wife or family member opens card can you transfer points into one account?
2)is there any card that you can transfer into the chase sapphire preferred account?
(or vice versa-take your chase sapphire points to a diff card that you can also get points for signing up)

Dan

@cranky:
Depends on the card.

@Mike:
Doubtful unless you open a new card.

@AMEX50K:
Send a tweet to @askamex and just ask to match the 50K offer.

@yehuda:
1. Yes.
2. Not sure what you mean, why not just open up a new account and get the signup bonus?
The points from Sapphire, Freedom and Ink can be transferred back and forth.

chaim y

what i mean is – what is the point ratio on the delta gold as far as purchases?

margo

i have the same problem as levy. i opened a starwoods card in end of august and it seems i got the spend 15k in 6 months and get 15k. i thought i signed up for something else but i cant prove it. signed up aug 22 and was approved aug 25. is there any way i can get them to match the 15k points for 5k spending in 6 months? i tried contacting them 2x and still not getting anywhere, they said i could close the card and try reaaplying…. not sure how good idea that is. how does one tweet them? ( you seem to think that might be an idea but dont know how to go about it)

Mendel

Hey, Dan. Blue cash preferred is telling me the 150 offer is no longer available. Any ideas?
