Update: DEAD! Don’t miss it if this becomes alive again. Sign up for deal notification alerts here!
Update 5/3: If you missed out on yesterday’s Daily Getaway sale, you can still buy Hilton points for 0.5 cents each until 11:59pm tonight. There is a limit of 160,000 points, but you can buy from other accounts and pool the points together.
As always, it’s only worth buying points for a specific redemption (to get enough points for a 5 night stay, etc), not just to hold onto speculatively if you don’t need a hotel stay.
Originally posted on 5/2:
1. Hilton now allows you to pool your points together between friends and family. Once the pool is set up each member can transfer up to 500,000 points into the pool and each member can receive up to 2,000,000 points per calendar year. Each member can transfer and pool points up to 6 times per calendar year.
2. At 1pm you will be able to buy Hilton points for .48 cents each:
-30,000 Hilton points for $144
-100,000 Hilton points for $480
-250,000 Hilton points for $1,200
If you have a Hilton credit card or elite status and make a 5 night stay at a top-tier property like the Waldorf Astoria Jerusalem or Conrad Maldives you can stay 5 nights for 76K points per night thanks to every 5th night being free. That’s like paying $364.48/night at .48 cents/point. If you stay less than 5 nights it costs 95K points per night for a top-tier Hilton, which is like paying $456/night at .48 cents/point.
That can make sense to buy, but only if you have a specific redemption in mind or if you need more points to have enough to redeem for a 5 night stay, but I wouldn’t buy points speculatively due to the risk of devaluation and hotels being able to leave the Hilton brand.
A 5 night stay at the Conrad Maldives can be a good deal if you use points:

i have yet to find any award avail for 5 night straight at WAJ
@ericmedschoolgnd:
Use flexible dates. And look at the screenshot in the post.
@Dan and if you pay using your Hilton surpass you get for even cheaper per point
I guess by now this should be obvios😀
@Mendy r:
Use a Sapphire Reserve and it will count as travel for 3x points.
FYI- I had the Hilton Honors, got the bonus, then upgraded to Surpass and got that bonus too…
@Dan can I pay for the points with the Surpass card and get 12 points per dollar?
How does Hilton diamond compare to spg platinum?
Dan is this the cheapest rate for buying points ever? Also isn’t Waldorf usually 80k per night? Has the price gone down or is it due to the time of year? Tx
@Sol:
It will post as a travel purchase, not a Hilton purchase.
@Point lover:
Not quite as lucrative.
@Colors:
The rate is now the top-tier 95K/night.
It’s 76K on average for 5 nights with 5th night free.
Waj (or any israely hotel) does not not charge the 17% tax if your on a B2 visa
If I were to get Diamond status now, when would it expire?
@waj:
Correct.
@Dr Moose:
Should be good through 3/31/19.
I got the email about Hilton pooling and tried transferring from my wife’s account to mine. It went though that night, but by the next day, the points were gone from my account. I called up and they said that although the email was sent out, the pooling option hasn’t started yet. My wife’s account will get her points back and we have to wait until the pooling program begins.
@Belmar Boy:
When did you try pooling?
It’s active now.
@Dan
I tried on Sunday night. It went through and got reversed. They told me last night that it isn’t active yet.
any decent chances Amex will waive AF first year if we ask?
WAJ is not showing availablility for weekend nights next year this time. It’s getting harder and harder to redeem those weekend night certificates
Is pooling considered activity to prevent expiration?
Dan, Can I apply for the two Amex Hilton cards you mentioned above at one time and will the hard pull combine? Thanks!
@Belmar Boy:
It’s live now.
@Anonymous:
YMMV.
@Mendel:
Try it and let us know.
@Kay:
Yes.
@dan, after purchasing the points, it is saying they won’t be deposited in my account for 3-4 weeks. Is that the case or have you seen these deposited within a much sooner timeframe?
sold out
I’m sure SOMEBODY could get a good deal paying this price for Honors points, but most people should definitely keep the money in their wallets. In most cases, the points are only worth .48 at retail prices. So you’re just buying Hilton rooms at face value — and not earnings more points for yourself. Yes, there are a few “capped” hotels where, on some days, there could be a decent deal, but these are rare.
Obviously, the way to accumulate Honors points is for free on credit cards. There have been TONS of good deals on this lately. I’ve recently accumulated hundreds of thousands of Honors points with very little effort. If you have decent credit, it’s very easy to do.
@iahphx:
Hence the advice I gave.
@ericmedschoolgnd: I just got 5 nights for 350,000 July 19th-July24th
Does these cards counts towards 5 Amex credit card you can have at once?
do any of these cards count against you for chase’s 5/24?
also does the amex rule of only once in a lifetime bonus apply to these cards too?
thanks
Dan maybe a good topic for a new post in the future would be Alaska Airlines (all the ins and outs) and their cc. we don’t hear much from you on their credit card etc.. there is a now an increased 30k offer and 100 credit they also have recently expanded their nonstop flight to routes such as EWR-SAN seems they deserve more attention now?
You can book one night at at a time for the Waj and build
Up to a five night stay or what I did last summer was
Book two paid nights out of the five nights and then they were able to
Switch it to a points reservation when it became
Available you might have to huca a bit because
Each rep has their own rules lol.
Does Gold status on the Silver card automatically update after $20,000. We have not gotten upgraded to gold and have spent well over.
can someone tell me does the complimentary breakfast only free with gold status? or also silver?
is there free breakfast at waj even if you dont stay there if you have surpass?
@Benny:
Contact AMEX and Hilton.
@jojo:
Reports are only Gold or Diamond on award stays.
@steve:
Yes as Surpass gives you Gold.
