Several commenters asked what credit cards they could get with price drop protection after Citi eliminated the benefit from all of their cards. Barclays is killing the benefit on their cards in November.

Several services popped up that managed to quickly kill this widespread benefit as they automated the price drop claims process, which wound up costing the credit card issuers a fortune. Clearly they never heard of the PGFHGS (pigs get fat, hogs get slaughtered) mantra that is part of DDF culture.

Here are some of the remaining card options with price protection:

Never thought I’d see the day when Dan is promoting Capital One cards. Dan, I assume you never thought you would either?

Is it safe to apply for second chase business card if I got the first one 2 months ago?

sfried

Off topic…. “You only need to fly the 25K, 50K, or 75K miles like in the good old days.” How does it work? Does the card holder need to fly this amount, or as long you buy it with the cc or with points from the card holder account?

Amex plat ,chase shapire preferd doesn’t have it ?

Capital one does not advertise or even mention a Price Change/Drop Protection for Spark Miles (or Cash) for Business. Can you point us to a link or document to verify this coverage for Capital One cards?

BOA world Elite MasterCard also have this feature

Called Citi bank to complain about the lost benefits and they credited my account with a statement credit and free points. Doesn’t hurt to call

How does price protection compare to price rewind?

jj

Hi Dan – Can you do a similar recap of cards that will continue to offer return protection?

Price_Rewinder

Underneath the “Spark” Price protection, it says it doesn’t apply to anything advertised online. FYI!

Price Protection does not cover the following:
• Advertisements posted on the Internet

@Dan,

City National Bank Crystal Visa Infinite has the benefit as well. As you noted, Barclays Arrival+ has it, but it is being killed on November 1, 2019.

Wells Fargo Signature card has this benefit.
$250 per claim.. 4 times per year

Kelly

Most Mastercard branded cards have the standard Price Protection of $250 per claim/max 4 claims a yr and $1000 cap. I have used this on my Bank of America Cash Rewards card as well as my Target Redcard Mastercard. However, I saw a couple of posts saying Mastercard is removing this benefit but, I have not seen anything published on the Mastercard Benefits website and cannot figure out if it’s true and if so, when it is being terminated. Any idea Dan? Thanks so much.

Stephen

@dan Does the Wells Fargo Platinum avisa no longer provide Price Protection? I thought it did but I don’t see it listed here. Thanks, Dan!

This article needs updating to reflect info for 2020. None of the cards listed above for Cap One or Chase offer price protection any more. The only cards are select World Mastercards such as Bank of America Cash Rewards where the issuer is still paying the insurance co for PP and Wells Fargo Visa Signature.
