Update, 8/25: Chase is still allowing transfers to Korean Air, though that may end at any time.
Update, 8/24: Today is the final day to transfer Chase points to Korean Air!
Effective 8/25, you will no longer be able to transfer Chase points into Korean miles.
That hurts as Korean miles have several sweet spots.
They have excellent first class award space for just 80K miles between North America and Asia. I flew Korean first class from Singapore to NYC via Seoul 5 years ago with Chase points on the 777 and A380, though I have long wanted to try out the first class suites on Korean’s 747-8.
Korean also has dirt cheap awards on Skyteam partner Delta, flights within North America (Mexico, United States (including Hawaii), US Virgin Islands, Canada, and Puerto Rico) are just 25K miles round-trip in coach or 45K miles round-trip in first class, though that requires finding saver award space.
Partner awards on airlines like Alaska, Emirates, and Hawaiian also have some great deals. A flights on Hawaiian or Alaska from the US49 to Hawaii is 30K miles round-trip in coach or 60K in first class. An intra-Hawaii flight is 10K miles round-trip. An Alaska Air flight within the US49 is just 20K miles round-trip in coach or 40K miles in first class.
The good news is that Korean miles don’t expire for 10 years, so you can transfer points now and have a whole decade to use them! However after 10 years there is no way to extend them further.
After the Chase partnership ends the only decent way to transfer points to Korean will be from Marriott at a 60K:25K ratio (which is the same ratio as the previous 20K:25K from Starpoints before those points were tripled).
Hopefully another bank’s transferable points will work for Korean in the future and Chase replaces Korean with another valuable partner.
Remaining Chase transfer partner include:
- United (Star Alliance)
- Singapore (Star Alliance)
- Air France/KLM Flying Blue (Skyteam)
- British Airways (OneWorld)
- Aer Lingus (OneWorld)
- Iberia (OneWorld)
- Virgin Atlantic
- Southwest
- Hyatt
- IHG
- Marriott

Still a lot of Chase options. Though does anyone get the feeling that Chase is pulling features away, while Amex Platinum is doing the opposite ?
10 years is a long time, but I learned a long time ago not to make speculative transfers.
(P.S. – What’s the best, easiest and fastest way to extend BA Avios in a household account?)
Try booking an award and cancelling it?
You can still book Emirates with Korean without fuel surcharges?
Unfortunately they added fuel surcharges for Emirates.
I transferred 1,000,000 miles yesterday
Wow, what are your plans for them?
I use approximately 300,000 korean miles a year, I figure will have enough for the next three years. I didn’t want to go longer than 3 years because I learned that this mileage game changes often. I did read somewhere that the reason Korean is out of Chase is because they want people to get their branded credit card. So we should not expect another transfer option for a while.
Devastating news. Was an absolute steal for Hawaii
Air France and Singapore are still good options.
How do you book Alaska or Hawaii J with Korean miles?
Call.
Ana is not anymore a transfer partner?
ANA was never a Chase transfer partner. They are a partner of American Express.
The best way to book ANA is with Virgin Atlantic, which is a chase partner.
How does one go with Korean from NY to TLV ?
You can use their SkyPass program to fly on Delta (if they ever have availability). Other options include any other SkyTeam partner such as Air France.
Is it worth using korean from North to South America? (With Delta, I guess)
Their partner award can be booked online or does it have to be over the phone?
so i can transfer to Koran and use for Delta to TLV?
If there is saver award space.
something that ever happens?
nice that you finally mention all the sweet spots now what good does it do?
I’ve talked about it dozens times over the years, sorry you didn’t pay attention.
You can still transfer now and take advantage with future bookings.
Do you plan on transferring miles speculatively?
Dan, I wanted to transfer 205k points for a round the world ticket. It just sounds like a great experience. I’d still need 15k, but the credit card promo will work on a pinch. Do you think the RTW ticket is worth it? I’m in no rush to book, and am flexible…but this news is forcing my hand. Thoughts if you have a moment?
Cost of NYC-tlv on Korean r t? For coach or j?
Ultimate Rewards
Not available, as chase is doing maintenance on their website.
How do I transfer points from Korean to another airline, say United or JetBlue?
