In January 2020 Chase announced that Sapphire Reserve card renewals as of 4/1/20 would go up from $450 to $550.
That never happened for existing customers.
In April they gave renewing cardholders a $100 statement credit and then they started only billing card renewals at the old $450 fee.
That was supposed to have ended on 12/31/20, but DDF member shmelke posted that his Sapphire Reserve card renewed on 2/1/21 for just $450.
I reached out to Chase for comment and they confirmed that,
“Given the ongoing environment, currently existing Sapphire Reserve cardmembers whose renewal dates are within Jan 1, 2021 – March 30, 2021 will also automatically renew at $450. I’ll keep you posted if and when there is more to share.”
Hopefully that will be extended again!
Chase has added lots of benefits to the Sapphire Reserve card:
- They will allow cardholders to use their 2021 $300 annual travel credit on gas and groceries through 6/30/21.
- Earn 3 points per dollar spent on up to $1,000/month on groceries through 4/30/21.
- Redeem your points at a value of 1.5 cents each (or more) to reimburse spending on dining, grocery store, or home improvement purchases through 4/30/21.
- Cardholders get a $60 credit this year on Doordash Restaurant Delivery through 12/31. See here for how to check on your remaining credit.
- Cardholders get free DoorDash DashPass to save money on deliveries, a $9.99 monthly value.

- Signup for 12 free months of Lyft Pink and Grubhub+ or Seamless+, a $19.99 monthly value.

Of course that all comes on top of other Sapphire Reserve benefits:
- Triple points on all dining and travel worldwide.
- Ability to redeem for paid travel at a value of 1.5 cents per point.
- Ability to transfer all Chase points into airline miles and hotel points, where they can be worth even more than 1.5 cents each.

Yes, on 01.01.21 I was only charged $450 as well.
Wonder what will happen for someone that opened it last year and paid the full $550. Will they get the discount?
Was thinking this. I upgraded in 2020 after the announcement, and paid $550 AF even though most people were only paying $450 by then. Would I now get it at $450, or only for people who’ve never paid the $550?
Unfortunately, you continue topay 550!!!. happened to me. I payed 550 bec i openinf the card in feb 2020, and now it renewed for 550. I tried calling and they would not waive the 100$ difference. very sad about it
I always refill my EZ Pass with this card in full. 🙂
Lately I’ve noticed, it doesn’t seem like I’m getting points on my ez pass refill. No points are showing when I click on the charge. Anyone having this?
I have a Chase Sapphire preferred open, how long do I have to wait to be able to receive the signup bonus for the sapphire reserve
When did you get the bonus for it?
I opened the card in November 2018 and got the bonus in Dec ’18
Officially you would need to wait 48 months from when you got the bonus.
My CSP was billed in December. Can I product change to the CSR and only get charged the difference to $450?
What about if I upgrade it from a freedom (which was a reserve once upon a time).
Priority Pass lounge membership with 2 free guests and unlike with AMEX cards, you can still use this for restaurant/food/drink credit.
************
Can you please explain what you mean that a PP membership can be used for restaurant/food/drink credit?
Thank you.
At some airport restaurants, priority pass members are allowed to spend $28 per person for food or beverage of their choice for up to two people. Tip is additional….I don’t recall about tax. American Express cards that give you priority pass privileges are not honored at these restaurants. I hope this is helpful.
Same Q, @Dan can u pls explain this
For example if you search for a PP lounge in CLE, it says you can go to Bar Symon.
You can get $28 of items per person and it will be free. You can even get Kind bars, chips, beer, fruit, water, etc to go and it will be free.
Bar Symon in Cleveland rocks. Especially with AirSpace closed, it’s the only option.
They swipe ur cc or ur pp card?
If someone upgrades from preffered is it 450?
I have the same question.
Same question…
Do you think they will ever offer the 100k chase points bonus for first customers opening a new Chase Reserve Card?
Nope.
I would give up the new dashdoor, Lyft and Peloton benefits in favor of keeping the old $450 unchanged. I canceled my AMEX plat when the AF increased and I may do the same with the Reserve when the fee goes up.
They will allow cardholders to use their 2021 $300 annual travel credit on gas and groceries through 6/30/21.
Works for the Ritz Carlton CC as well?
No.
Is there a way of paying 450 for a new card?
Canceling mine after getting my grocery and doordash credit.
I just got charged the $550 annual fee when my anniversary date hit. Are people still getting a $100 credit to lower it to $450 due to Covid?
I think that’s over, but can’t hurt to call and ask.
