Effective 10/1, Chase will change its card protection benefits provider from eClaimsLine to Assurant.

Filing claims with eClaimsLine can be an arduous and drawn-out process, though I have successfully made claims for alleged damage to rental cars in Israel more than once.

I have also heard from readers who have been paid $500,000 for a family member’s accidental death (R”L) during travel purchased with Chase cards, but it can take a very long time and plenty of back and forth to get claims like that processed.

Here’s hoping the process will be smoother with Assurant.

  • Some other changes coming with the switch for losses starting 10/1 include:
    • Rental car coverage on cards with coverage under $60K increased to $60K in coverage on cars that have an MSRP up to $125K. You will also have 100 days to notify the benefit provider of damage, up from 60 days. Chase tells DansDeals that cards with higher coverage limits will retain their higher limits.
    • Emergency evacuation and transportation will now be arranged by the benefits provider, instead of the cardholder with the benefits provider providing reimbursement.
    • Travel accident insurance increased on cards with $250K in coverage to $500K.
    • Lost checked and carry-on luggage reimbursement will be added to more cards.
    • Extended warranty coverage increased on cards with a $50K lifetime maximum to $50K per year maximum.

Cardholders will receive an email with an updated guide to benefits by mid-August detailing their card’s new protection benefit terms. You can also download your guide to benefits on Chase.com by clicking on your card, More, Card Benefits, and click on a benefit such as Auto Rental Collision Damage Waiver, and scroll down for a link to download the guide to benefits for your card. Those will be updated with the new guides over the coming weeks.

You can download the current eClaimsLine guide to benefits for Chase Freedom and Freedom Unlimited here.

You can download the upcoming Assurant guide to benefits for Chase Freedom and Freedom Unlimited here.

For example for the Freedom card, currently Alfa Romeo, Corvette, Jaguar, Maserati, Porsche, and Tesla are excluded, but under the new benefits, those would be covered for up to $60K in damage, if they have an MSRP under $125K.

If one totals a car with an MSRP of 100k, chase will only cover up to 60k?

please respond thnx

hi does any one know how it works with car sharing if they cover [in Israel] as we are having a hard time with our claim! as they want the original rental agreement but there is none as its like a standing order that you can take a car when ever [you want you have to sign up to be able to take the car]!

You are referring to city car and my car which are hourly rentals in Israel. (There are more companies) They are hourly rentals and I don’t think any credit cards will cover it. But in the future you can pay the 5 shekel an hour for insurance.

I see United and delta canceling flights to isreal

When I had to make a claim through chase, it was Allianz. They have me the total runaround but finally paid up. I found it easier when I dealt directly with Allianz for a time I bought travel insurance.

I had a claim related to cancelled airfare due to a death in the family. Took about 2 years to get the money (because I had to wait a year for the airline’s travel credit to expire), but I eventually got my money back. Currently fighting with them on a different claim. They take FOREVER to get back to you.

Unless I missed it until now, with this change Israel is now covered by these cards for CDW.
(now as in 10/1 when this change goes into effect)

I made a claim for a charge of 3000 dollars for a wheel damage on a rental in switzerland it took eleven months because they could not get in contact with the rental company but I got the whole amount through e-claims after speaking to them on the phone 7 times.

Had a claim with eClaimsLine a few months ago, it took a good two months to get $175 back. Not sure the hours I put into it were worth it…

I backed a rental car in Costa Rica into a tour bus in 2022 and was reimbursed for the $1000 of damage within 4 weeks of submitting receipts from Avis using chase sapphire reserve benefits.

Hi! I am a Capital One Venture X cardholder. They use Card Benefit Services for their protection benefits. Is that the same thing as eClaimsLine? (Yes, I did Google this and came up with nothing…)
