Welcome bonus terms:

As with all AMEX cards, if you’re an existing AMEX cardholder, there is no hard credit pull for applying for a card.

You officially won’t get the welcome bonus on this card if you have or have had this card, though readers have reported success after several years.

You can tell if you are eligible for an AMEX welcome bonus by simply applying. If you are not eligible for the bonus you will get a popup notification after clicking to apply for the card. At that point you can decide whether to proceed or cancel the application before it is actually processed.

You must keep the card active without closing or downgrading it for at least 12 months.

$100 Annual Resy Restaurant Credit

Effective today, you can earn up to $50 in annual statement credits every January-June and up to $50 every July-December after using an enrolled American Express Gold Card on eligible U.S. Resy restaurants, Resy.com, and in the mobile Resy app.

There are many kosher restaurants on Resy, and any restaurant that accepts reservations on Resy will qualify for this credit!

$84 Annual Dunkin Credit

Effective today, you can earn up to $7 in monthly statement credits after using an enrolled American Express Gold Card to pay at more than 9,000 Dunkin’ locations nationwide.

$120 Annual Uber/Uber Eats credit

Add your card in the Uber app and you will get a $10 monthly credit, good for Uber and/or Uber Eats.

You can enroll multiple AMEX Gold or Platinum cards from different users in the same Uber account to combine the credits!

$120 Dining credit

After enrollment here, you can earn up to a $10 monthly statement credit at GrubHub, Seamless, Wine.com, GoldBelly.com, Five Guys, and The Cheesecake Factory.

Kosher options can be found at Grubhub, Wine.com, and GoldBelly.com.

Card earnings:

  • 4 points per dollar at restaurants worldwide (capped at $50K per calendar year starting in 2025).
  • 4 points per dollar at US supermarkets on up to $25K in purchases per calendar year.
  • 3 points per dollar on airfare from airlines or AMEX Travel.
  • 2 points per dollar on hotels from AMEX Travel.
  • 1 point per dollar everywhere.
  • There are no foreign transaction fees.

Airline/Hotel transfers:

Transfer points to airlines and hotels and you can get some incredible values for your miles.

AMEX transfer partners include:

  • Air Canada Aeroplan (Star Alliance) 1:1 instant transfer.
  • ANA (Star Alliance) 1:1 transfer.
  • Avianca Lifemiles (Star Alliance) 1:1 instant transfer.
  • Singapore (Star Alliance) 1:1 transfer.
  • AeroMexico (Skyteam) 1:1.6 transfer.
  • Air France/KLM Flying Blue (Skyteam) 1:1 instant transfer.
  • Delta (Skyteam) 1:1 instant transfer.
  • Aer Lingus (OneWorld) 1:1 instant transfer.
  • British Airways (OneWorld) 1:1 instant transfer
  • Cathay Pacific Asia Miles (OneWorld) 1:1 instant transfer.
  • Iberia (OneWorld) 1:1 instant transfer
  • Qantas (OneWorld) 1:1 instant transfer
  • Qatar (OneWorld) 1:1 instant transfer
  • Emirates 1:1 instant transfer
  • Etihad 1:1 instant transfer
  • Hawaiian 1:1 instant transfer
  • JetBlue 1:0.8 instant transfer
  • Virgin Atlantic 1:1 instant transfer
  • Choice Hotels 1:1 instant transfer
  • Hilton 1:2 instant transfer
  • Marriott 1:1 instant transfer

Mileage transfers can often make sense for one-way, last-minute, or premium class travel. The value with airline miles can be under a cent each if used poorly, but properly used the points can be worth 5 cents, 10 cents, 15 cents, or even more per point, the sky is the limit.

For example I love using 6.5K miles transferred to Avianca or 6K points transferred to Air Canada to book a last minute $459 ticket on United, thanks to their amazing short-haul redemption award charts. You can also do that with Flying Blue or Virgin Atlantic for Delta flights or with Qatar for American flights.

There are also often bonus offers for transfers from AMEX to airlines.

Spend threshold:

You’ll need to spend $6,000 within 6 months.

You can pay your federal taxes for a 1.82% fee. If you overpay your taxes you can request a refund or apply it to your next year’s taxes.

My local natural gas company allows me to prepay up to $1,000 on a credit card for a $1.65 flat fee. That’s a great way to earn miles and help meet a spend threshold. My electricity supplier allows me to pay with a credit card for free as long as I am enrolled in autopay.

Card convertibility:

You can convert this card to the AMEX Green ($150 annual fee) or Platinum card ($695 annual fee).

AMEX Offers:

Earn statement credits at stores that you register for in your AMEX account.

AMEX protections:

  • Trip delay insurance will reimburse expenses due to a flight delay, up to $300 of coverage for 12+ hour delays.
  • Baggage Insurance covers lost, stolen, or damaged luggage on plain, train, ship, or bus tickets paid for on the card.
  • An additional year of warranty coverage, double the original manufacturers warranty, and if you have any issue in the extended warranty year they’ll pay to have it fixed or refund your entire purchase price without a hassle. This benefit is far more valuable than warranty benefits offered by other banks.
  • If you need to dispute a charge there’s nobody who makes it easier or as pain-free as American Express does. It’s the easiest dispute resolution process in the industry by leaps and bounds and you can do it all online.
  • If your item is stolen or broken within 90 days you’ll be covered.
  • Complimentary Shoprunner 2 day free shipping and return shipping on hundreds of websites.
  • Secondary car rental CDW protection worldwide and primary available for $19.95/rental.

Dan’s Quick Thoughts:

The annual fee for this card has climbed $75 with this refresh, but it’s more than offset by the $100 Resy restaurant credit. The $7 monthly Dunkin credit is just a new freebie on top of that. While I don’t love the direction of increasing annual fees for credits, these changes seem mostly reasonable for anyone dining out at restaurants on Resy at least once every 6 months.

This remains a strong card for earning points on US groceries and dining worldwide, though the need to stay on top of the available credits may make it too much of a hassle for some.

What do you think of the card’s changes?

No idea why anyone would pay the annual fee for this….There are no annual fee cards that already provide 5% and 4% cash back on dining and groceries. Worst thing about this is that other card issuers will start increasing their annual fees for these “coupon book” credit cards. Hard pass….

d

Which cards provide 5/4% on dining and grocery without an annual fee?

Daniel

Redstone Federal Credit Union Visa Signature provides 5% back on dining and gas. 3% on groceries, discount stores, wholesale clubs, utilities, phone and streaming services. You just need to make a donation to one of their partners and you can become a member. I believe there are other cards out there that provide 4% on groceries but this is a pretty good card.

d

Oh wow, thank you!!!

FBR

There is no other card that gives 4%. There are several cards that give 3%. 4 MR points is greater than 4% cash back and at least equal to 5% cash back, if not more.

I am not sure how to use the resy credit? Do most restaurants take a reservation for free or charge a refundable deposit for your reservation?

d

Dan do you know if the Resy and Dunkin credits can be partially used over multiple purchases or if they can only be used in single purchases of $50/$7?

Mordy13

I am testing it today . I bought a coffee for $3.80 . Will post back if I got the credit .

Mordy13

Confirmed, got the credit !

Eitan

My amex green card shows an upgrade to the gold card – will it get all of these new refreshed perks? Or does it need to be a new account to get the new features?

FBR

Yes you will get it. Existing cardholders are also getting it.

Tirza Swift

I’m considering swapping my platinum for a lower tier. The only thing holding me back is the lack of understanding on the protections of platinum vs the gold or green.

Does the gold have the same protection?

Nathan

No return protection?

O.S.

Another AMEX “coupon book.” No thank you.

Daniel

Exactly. Not sure why anyone would consider getting this outside of the signup bonus….

DG

Any good kosher options on Resy near Brooklyn?

DG

Thanks for the legwork, appreciated!

toda

I live in NJ and have not found good options for kosher local Resy restaurants that sell $10 and $20 gift cards (to make use of Delta card Resy credits)
Sounds like easy money for the first business to offer it…

mbelsky

Please let me know if you find anything in nj….

Jay

Anyone know if buying a $7 Dunkin Gift Card will trigger it?
