While the consumer AMEX Platinum card got several new benefits and a higher annual fee today, the AMEX Business card will add one of those benefits as well. Best of all, its annual fee will remain at $595!
Starting today, all Business Platinum Card members can enroll in CLEAR and get reimbursed for up to $189 in annual charges.
My main concern at this point is how crowded will the CLEAR lines get after this many cardholders get it for free? Time will tell on that one.
Clear normally costs $189/year, but United and Delta non-elite members can enroll in CLEAR for $119/year. United and Delta cardholders and mid-tier elite members can enroll in CLEAR for $109/year. Top tier elites get CLEAR for free.
A CLEAR member can add up to 3 adults for just $60 each, so you can join as a Delta or United member, add a 2nd adult, and all charges will be reimbursed by AMEX every year.
Kids under 18 can go with their parents for free without a membership or biometrics required.
CLEAR allows you to skip to the front of the line. If you have PreCheck you can skip to the front of the PreCheck line and if you don’t have PreCheck you can skip to the front of the regular line.
You don’t need to take out your ID either, your fingerprint or eye act as your ID.
The dependability that skipping the line gives you is simply amazing. It means I can leave my house 55 minutes before a flight and know that I won’t miss my flight out of CLE. When I’m with my family I’ll leave plenty of time and enjoy the airport lounge, but if I’m solo, the less wasted time in the airport is always a win.
It’s great that the fee isn’t going up (yet?) to make up for this new benefit!

I think you overestimate how many people have Platinum cards compared to number of travelers.
I hope you’re right!
I agree with Ejb. I have had platinum card for years and fly domestic monthly. I hardly ever use the lounges, I don’t have time for it:)
I have had the SW companion pass for the last 5 years also and have used it twice in all that time. So these benefits all seem great but will they actually be used? Very not necessarily…these companies know that….
Its like a gym membership
Obviously, not everyone has Platinum card, and of those who do, many simply won’t take advantage of this benefit, even if they continue to keep the card for $695 a year, and even if they’re frequent travelers and can really benefit from it. That’s just the way some people are.
Agreed clear is amazing because most people don’t have it = no lines!
can you pls summarize existing benefits like you did with the consumer plat
Yes, will try to do so today.
is it me or the website dosent let you press continue when you fill up your information?!
Dan, Could you also summarize what benefits apply to additional users Amex Platinum cards?
Woohoo!
If I applied yesterday for the clear 3 month free membership, can I still register through my united account to get it for $109?
Yes, just contact CLEAR.
Thanks @Dan! BTW I just found it online on clear’s website, if you go on the bottom to partners you can link United account
So every joe will now have Clear, which diminishes the benefit somewhere.
A side not, the situation with the TSA has become so ridiculous, that we need to pay for a service to get rid of it.
Clear will now become what TSA is now – the longest line!
Do I have to enroll for this offer or I will automatically be reimbursed by amex?
Automatic.
I am in discussion with AMEX now and they are saying that I needed to enroll. Any recommendations on what to do?
When did you pay for it?
Thanks Dan, Seems like the cost to add family members went up to $60 from $50
Interesting, must have just gone up today.
My Clear account get auto renewed in December. Do you know if they would reimburse the half year remaining on my current payment so I can have them use my Amex now?
Are there any locations outside of airports to register?
Honestly, was worth paying the $100+/yr to have the peace of mind of walking onto a flight – park in EWR, 10 min later at my gate w/ Clear+TSA-pre.
Oh well, it was good while it lasted.
I just got them to extend my membership for free for 2 months. Now, I will turn on auto-renew and let AMEX pay for it. Thanks!
I’ve used Clear during my 3 month free trial and I didn’t find it to be worth $109. I have TSA precheck and don’t find it to be that crowded. But I’ll gladly take this benefit on my biz plat for free!
I assume I can gift this as well (I have more than one biz plat) or will they match names to card member? Additionally can I gift precheck/global entry?
Thanks for making us aware of this, and especially regarding the fact that the benefit covers the cost of two members when one has the airline memberships factored in.
is this annual fee increase applied on a pro-rated basis to platinum card holders who were recently charged an annual fee, or is it only applicable to the next annual fee charged?
So if I have both the Amex consumer and business Platinum cards, I can get myself a Clear membership and use the other Platinum to add three additional memberships for $60 each and $179 of the $180 will be covered?
can non us citizens also apply?
Flew out of EWR this morning… CLEAR line was very long… )-;
I think this new perk is criminally underrated. Amex Plat is a travel and luxury card and with CLEAR and Precheck/GE, they are literally giving holders access to a complete express lane.
Join as a delta or united member?
Just the frequent flyer membership is what’s needed to get the price down?
Or is there a card you have to pay with. Is there a business platinum untied or delta card?
Confused
Do the additional adults have to be added when registering or can they be added later for $60 a person?
Still shows $50 per family member for me.
Is the $179 credit per additional cardholder as well or only one per amex plat acct regardless of how many cardholders there are?
@ Dan?
Try and let us know.
Don’t want to be held holding the bag for the fee on the additional cardholders if credit is only given once per entire account
I got closed by Amex a bit more than a year by now, due to covid and was not able to pay on time. Does anyone have any experience with reopening and what about the bonus points?
Who even “enjoys” the airport lounges anymore… AmEx Platinum has gone to crap the past few years, and jacked the fee up by a good 50%. I doubt I’ll ever be back unless I jump in for a big promo for 1 year here and there.
Can you get Clear credit for each additional card?
