NJ Transit Will Be Completely Free From 8/26-9/2!

Gov. Phil Murphy just announced that all NJ Transit fares will be waived the week of 8/26-9/2.

Monthly pass holders who have already purchased an August pass, which covers travel through the end of the month, will automatically receive a 25% discount on their September monthly pass purchase through the mobile app, at Ticket Vending Machines (TVMs), or ticket windows.

Will this get you to take the NJ Transit?

How can I use this if I live in Florida?

njtransit rider

look for a great deal and take a flight to newark. the rest of nj is yours from there.

J

The week I take off of work. Hilarious.

John Beckingham

Same here. So idiotic.

A

Me too!!
See you on the train

Replying to myself: I don’t use it for work sounds like you do sorry 🙁
Where can I go that’s interesting?

“Will this get you to use the NJ Transit?”

Most people who use NJT don’t do it out of choice. They do it because it’s the only reasonable way to get to work.

Essen est zich

And what is wrong with that.

The point is the public transportation works!

Yo/Oy

Sure, why not.

Jim

So obviously this is not for everyone. They are also offering it during a holiday period when ridership is likely to be low anyway. As an aside, I have commuted to work via the NJT/Amtrak Northeast Corridor (busiest passenger route in the country) for 35 years. NJT service has declined to the point of being seriously unreliable!

LkwdGuy

Free trips! Awesome!
The only downside is that you would have to ride NJ Transit.

Dan

Grand prize: 1 free week on the NJ Transit.
2nd prize: 2 free weeks on the NJ Transit.

This will be a great opportunity to explore New Jersey!

Train Lover

Yes, EXACTLY!!

Jew from Elizabeth

Go from Lakewood to Newark direct entirely free!

Train Lover

This is quite literally the best deal ever, especially if you are a railfan / train enthusiast who loves to ride trains for fun. Unfortunately I’m going on vacation this week, but fortunately my vacation is in New Jersey so I plan to spend one day of it riding all around NJ on free NJT trains!!

Train Lover as well

Do you have recommendations of the top 3 Train lines on NJT for the scenic views ?

Train Lover

Not sure if there is really much scenery to speak of. Also not sure if it is free to go past Suffern. Because the Port Jervis line is scenic. Morris & Essex is wooded. I’m planning on riding NJ Coast Line and Raritan Valley Line, two lines I haven’t ridden yet.

Train Lover as well

Thank you ! I actually take the Port Jervis line to Middletown NY on Fridays and get picked up there instead of battling traffic on Friday afternoon heading to the Catskills ( and yes it is scenic ) !

Yair

Still overpriced.

rid er

its a monopoly. what are they looking to accomplish?

Just aguy

Can any native new jersians here tell me which line has the newest trains ,and nicest scenery? At the last stop I want to plan a nice day trip and then head back to NYC.

Consider taking the New Jersey Coast line to Spring Lake and enjoying the day in an upscale beach town …I am not from NJ through …

Miriam

Any water parks or amusement parks or full day activities I can do with the kids on Monday?
