Correction: The good people at Farecompare(who apparently actively read this blog) point out out that I mistakenly attributed this service to them. I have now corrected this post to show that it is Farecast that is offering this service…
I’ve blogged about Farecast multiple times in the past, they are the people that purport to predict whether fares will fall or rise.
Now they will put their money where there mouth is and back it up.
During the introductory period you can buy a “Fareguard” for $1, which covers you if the ticket goes up within 1 week.
If they predict that fares will hold steady or fall and you select to fareguard the route, then if the fare drops-you save automatically, and if they fare rises-they will pay the difference!
Confused? Here’s an example:
A search from LAX to LAS on 01/09/07 and returning 01/16/07 reveals a fare of $97.
There is a fareguard button-click it to activate fareguard on this route.
The intro cost is $1.
For the next 7 days farecast will send you daily updates of the fareguarded price, and the current price.
Lets say the price falls to $60 tomorrow, then you will have saved $37 automatically just by listening to their prediction and waiting-so they are not liable to pay you anything.
But if the fares rises to $130 tomorrow, then if you go and book that ticket and send farecast the booking details, they will give you $33!
