Chase is adding several new temporary benefits to their Sapphire Reserve and Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card cards.
I’ve previously written about new benefits like:
- A $100 Sapphire Reserve statement credit.
- An additional 3 months to earn a signup bonus.
- An additional 3 months to earn a 2nd tier signup bonus.
- Bonus points for spending on groceries.
- Bonus points for spending on Doordash and Tock, on top of the new Doordash statement credits.
- Redeeming United miles at a value of 1.5 cents each to pay your Chase United annual fee.
Today Chase is adding these additional benefits:
- Between 5/31-9/30 you can redeem your Sapphire Reserve Ultimate Rewards points to offset any dining, grocery store, or home improvement purchases at a rate of 1.5 cents per point. You can redeem points for purchases made in the past 90 days.
- Between 5/31-9/30 you can redeem your Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card Ultimate Rewards points to offset any dining, grocery store, or home improvement purchases at a rate of 1.25 cents per point. You can redeem points for purchases made in the past 90 days.
- Between 6/1-12/31 you will get automatically reimbursed for gas and groceries with your Sapphire Reserve $300 travel credit.
- The Sapphire Reserve’s annual fee will be lowered back to $450 from July through the end of the year, but the $100 statement credit will go away.
Will you redeem your points for a statement credit of 1.25 or 1.5 cents each?

How exactly do you redeem the points towards these new categories?
TBD.
How long do I have to wait after signing up for the sapphire preferred to request an upgrade to the reserve or do I not have to wait at all?
Officially a year, but some reps may allow right away.
If one was to upgrade to Reserve, they would be charged the $450 right after and can use the travel credit right after?
Can I redeem points transferred from other cards, or only points earned on Sapphire Preferred/Reserve?
As long as you transfer them to Sapphire you should get the added value.
The gas and groceries is a nice add by them. Good job Chase. I have about $100 left in my travel credit and not sure if Id get to use all of it by years end. Still haven’t used Doordash, but have rest of year for that.
So chase trifecta still reigns Supreme at 2.25% cash back, depending how you structure spend vs redemption.
I made grocery purchases on my sapphire reserve in early May and on my freedom in April and early May. Think those will be eligible for statement credits at 1.5?
It said past 30 days
in the past 90 days

Does anybody know if you upgrade to a reserve to you only have a 450 fee
Only if AF is between July and December
Hi
Do you still earn 5 points for grocery spending on the Sapphire reserve (May/June) if there is a $300 credit being used towards those purchases?
has anyone upgraded recently and received the $100 statement credit for the annual fee? Debating if i should wait until July.
Do you get the 5x pts for groceries that you later pay for with points?
My groceries are not showing 5% on the Sapphire Reserve (only 1%).
Some stores don’t code as “grocery” for chase. My local kosher supermarket doesn’t and it is very annoying!
So if I get the 60,000 Preferred points bonus, I will get $900 in groceries if I transfer my points to a Sapphire?
The Preferred would get you $750, Reserve $900.

This is great. I was gonna cancel my Reserve at $550 fee but now I’ll hold for another year
This now looks like a pretty good value for the annual fee (for a year), with all of the additional benefits. Nothing like the initial offering of this card, but this is probably the best we’ll get at this point.
The redemption for Grocery, dining etc is real great as you can cash out at 1.5 and then use the card for travel and get 3 pod.
Can you please clarify whether the new lower fee ($450), or the statement credit ($100) apply only to renewal fees or do they apply to new cardholders and those upgrading from the Sapphire Reserve?
Some websites reported that it only applies to renewals.
how do i access this cashback?
If I make a grocery purchase and get 5x on sapphire reserve can I then use points at 1.5 toward the purchase and still receive the 5x per dollar ?
Thanks so much
Anyone have experience with purchasing at grocery stores on 6/30? Will it definitely be stamped and rewarded as a 6/30 purchase for rewards purposes. Also, is it safe to assume Stop&Shop is grocery. They are running a 2x fuel rewards on Mastercard this week, for those who play the Shell fuel game.
