Well i’m finally out of the snow ravaged new york (amazing how nyc just shuts down when it gets hit with snow while cleveland, or shall i say, ctown, just keeps on moving)
While i thought i had it bad, a friend of mine on jetblue sat for some 10 hours in jfk waiting for a flight, finally got on a different jetblue flight, (albeit not to his destination-he just wanted to get the heck out of nyc) and then sat 7+ hours in the plane on the tarmac before jetblue decided to scrub the flight and return to the terminal, where he waited another whole day in jfk before getting on a flight!
Now i fared slightly better, airtran cancelled my sunday morning nyc-akron flight, put me on the 2pm, cancelled that, put me on the 6 pm, and cancelled that, however at that point all of monday’s flights were fully booked, meaning i’d miss my connection out of cleveland to lax.
So i started pleading with them to put me on a monday flight all to no avail (after all i was told, i was on a $49 ticket, and they’re not going to have to bump somebody else just to accommodate me!)
So i went online to try to find anything to akron, alas there was nothing. Getting desperate i decided to check for a flight to atlanta, their hub, and then into akron, and what came up shocked me, A flight option from nyc to atlanta via akron-on the very flight that there were supposedly no tickets left! So bought a fully refundable ticket on that flight, and called them up and told a supervisor that i am holding a fully-refundable ticket from nyc to atlanta that includes a seat on the monday flight from nyc to akron, please refund that ticket, and give me that seat.
And he did!
Lesson learned:With the internet, there are no rules…so think outside the box!
