DansDeals will receive compensation if you are approved for a credit card via a link in this post. Terms apply to American Express benefits and offers, visit americanexpress.com to learn more.
Additionally, the AMEX Hilton Aspire Card now offers a $50 quarterly airfare credit. This credit can be used for airfare or the fees below. There is no need to register for this credit.Read more about the card here. This replaces the previous $250 airline fee credit on this card.
You need to register with a specific airline before spending for the AMEX Platinum fee credit. After you register for an airline you can officially only change your airline in January. However, I have had success changing the airline by chatting with AMEX online.
You can choose to register for the following airlines:
Alaska
American
Delta
Hawaiian
JetBlue
Southwest
Spirit
United
Note that if you have a Business Platinum card, the airline you choose will also be the airline that will give you 35% of your points back when redeeming for coach travel. You may want to hold off on spending the $200 until the end of the year if you want to be able to change the airline more easily during the year, though I have never been denied an airline change by chatting with AMEX online. You also get back 35% of your points on all airlines in business and first class redemptions without having to register for an airline.
Testing out charges in 2024:
The United TravelBank is a great option for these credits. TravelBank funds are valid to book United flights for anyone for 5 years from the date of purchase. I made 2 $100 purchases in 2024 and was reimbursed for the purchases.
With this option you’ll have to weigh whether to do this earlier in the year, when you know it’s available and working or whether to wait to see if you’ll have actual airline fees to pay this year. It can also be worth waiting for a TravelBank funding promotion or to get a longer expiration date on the funds. Then again the option isn’t officially covered as an airline fee, so it can stop working at any time. In 2021 it stopped working for a couple of months, before becoming eligible again.
TravelBank funds can be used to book travel on United.com for anyone.
JetBlue paid tickets that are under around $129 have long worked for credit.
These can be converted into JetBlue Travel Bank funds. With JetBlue, those funds are valid for 1 year from the date of original purchase and funds can be used for anyone. In basic economy you’ll have to cancel within 24 hours of the purchase and you’ll need to have purchased the flight for more than 7 days from now. You’ll have to contact JetBlue to do this conversion. For non-basic tickets, you can cancel and convert into Travel Bank funds online more than 24 hours after the ticket purchase.
Southwest paid tickets that are under around $109 have long worked for credit.
These are other charges that have been reported to count for airline fee credit:
Delta tickets purchased with partial payment on your credit card and partial payment on an airline voucher or gift card are typically reimbursed. This is not officially covered as an airline fee, but should work anyway.
Taxes on award tickets are typically reimbursed. This is not officially covered as an airline fee, but often works anyway.
Award redeposit and change fees from airline of your choice. This is officially covered as an airline fee.
Baggage fees from airline of your choice. This is officially covered as an airline fee.
Buying extra miles or mileage multiplier offered with a ticket purchase online or at a kiosk. This is not officially covered as an airline fee, but often works anyway.
Flight change fees and same day change fees from airline of your choice. This is officially covered as an airline fee.
Food and drinks on the plane from airline of your choice. This is officially covered as an airline fee.
Food and drinks in a club from airline of your choice. This is officially covered as an airline fee.
Lounge access, memberships, and club pass fees from airline of your choice. This is officially covered as an airline fee.
Phone reservation fees from airline of your choice. This is officially covered as an airline fee.
Pet fees. This is officially covered as an airline fee.
Seat selection fees and Economy Plus/Main Cabin Extra fees from airline of your choice. This is officially covered as an airline fee.
Standby fees from airline of your choice. This is officially covered as an airline fee.
AA 500 mile upgrades. This is not officially covered as an airline fee, but often works anyway.
AA Five Star Service. This is officially covered as an airline fee.
AA WiFi monthly plan. This is not officially covered as an airline fee, but often works anyway.
$9 Spirit Fare Club Membership. This is officially covered as an airline fee.
United WiFi on mainline planes only or any other WiFi billed by the airline and not a 3rd party. This is not officially covered as an airline fee, but often works anyway.
United WiFi day pass on any United flight.
It’s worth noting that upgrades to another cabin is not officially covered as an airline fee. Upgrading from JetBlue MINT to MINT Studio didn’t automatically work for me either. However you can chatting with AMEX 14 days after a charge to request reimbursement for it or any other charge. YMMV on the rep crediting your account for it, but that has always worked for me in the past.
What airline fees have you been credited for on your AMEX card in 2024?
Update 12/31/24: The increased referral discount is set to end today, it is unclear what the offer will be tomorrow.
Update:Tesla has just increased the referral discount on the Model 3 to $1,500! You can also save $1,000 off a Model Y, or $2,000 off a Model S, X, or Cybertruck! Plus, you’ll get 3 months of free supercharging and Full Self Driving.
Model S now includes free lifetime supercharging for the original owner, though the cost of the card has increased, as per the table below.
Excellent leasing deals are available as well.
The $7,500 federal tax credit is also available, though President Trump has stated that he will remove that credit next year, so this may be the last chance to take advantage of that credit.
NY residents also receive a $2,000 rebate, dropping the price of a Model 3 to as low as $30,490.
CO residents also receive a $5,000 rebate, dropping the price of a Model 3 to as low as $28,490.
For NJ residents, the $2,000 NJ Charge Up credit is also available again and will work for the Model 3 and Model Y! Income-qualifying residents that earn up to $75K individual MAGI or $150K household MAGI can get a $4,000 credit, dropping the price of a Model 3 to as low as $29,490.
NJ residents also pay just 3.3125% sales tax on EVs through 6/30/25.
For example:
The Model 3 RWD Long Range (363 mile range!) will be $41,490 after referral or just $33,490 after the $7,500 tax credit. NJ residents will pay just $29,490 or $31,490 after the stackable state credit.
The Model Y RWD Long Range will be $43,990 after referral or just $36,490 after the $7,500 tax credit. NJ residents will pay just $32,490 or $34,490 after the stackable state credit.
The Model 3 AWD Long Range will be $46,490 after referral or just $38,490 after the $7,500 tax credit. NJ residents will pay just $34,490 or $36,490 after the stackable state credit.
The Model Y AWD Long Range will be $46,990 after referral or just $39,490 after the $7,500 tax credit. NJ residents will pay just $35,490 or $37,490 after the stackable state credit.
The Model Y AWD Performance will be $50,490 after referral or just $42,990 after the $7,500 tax credit. NJ residents will pay just $38,990 or $40,990 after the stackable state credit.
The Model 3 AWD Performance will be $53,990 after referral or just $45,990 after the $7,500 tax credit. NJ residents will pay just $41,990 or $43,990 after the stackable state credit.
Will these incentives get you to order a Tesla?
Originally posted on 6/23/24:
I’ve been driving the Tesla Model 3 Long Range All Wheel Drive since 2018 and love it. The Model 3 has now been fully refreshed and that sweet spot model is now eligible for the $7,500 federal tax credit, dropping its cost to $39,990 if you’re eligible. It was previously not eligible for any tax credit this year after the refresh.
The Model Y will be similarly refreshed next year.
The tax credit is now valid at the point of sale, so you will pay just $39,990+fees and tax out the door for the refreshed Model 3 Long Range All Wheel Drive. The credit applies if you buy or finance the car, but not for leasing the car, though lease payments have dropped as well.
The tax credit applies in full if you have AGI in the current year or the previous year up to $300,000 for married couples filing jointly, $225,000 for heads of households, or $150,000 for all other filers. As long as your AGI is lower than those numbers in either year, you will qualify for the credit. However, if you expect a lower AGI in 2024 in order to qualify, but wind up with a higher AGI, you will have to pay back the credit when you file your taxes.
Best of all, while in previous years the credit was non-refundable, with the point of sale rebate if your tax liability is lower than $7,500, you will not have to pay back the credit, as long as your AGI is lower than the limits.
Speak to a financial professional for more details about how the tax credit may affect you.
It’s worth noting that if you’re buying a car for business purposes, there is an alternate $7,500 commercial EV credit, that has no income limitations and will be valid on all Tesla models as it has no cost limit either. Speak to a financial professional for more details.
And if you buy a Model X for business purposes, you may be able to take a first-year section 179 60% bonus depreciation for cars weighing over 6,000 pounds that are delivered by 12/31/24 before depreciating the rest of it over 7 years. That can mean massive tax savings based on your marginal federal and local tax rate. Speak to a financial professional for more details.
Many states also offer incentives for buying an EV:
NJ buyers pay no sales tax on EVs and there are charging installation rebates.
While in the past Tesla had a referral program that offered additional credits and perks, that program is currently unavailable. Elon Musk said to expect the referral program to return next quarter, so you may want to wait for that to happen before buying a Tesla.

Through 9/24, targeted accounts can get a 100% bonus when you buy Hilton points. Some accounts are only targeted for an 80% bonus.
For example, 5K points are normally $50 and with this sale you’ll get 10K points for that price. 240K points are normally $2,400 and with this sale you’ll get 480K points for that price. That’s just 0.5 cents per point.
That will only make sense to buy if you have a specific redemption in mind or if you need more points to have enough to redeem for a 5 night stay, but I wouldn’t buy points speculatively due to the risk of devaluation, room availability, and hotels being able to leave the Hilton brand.
For example, the Grand Wailea Maui is 110K points/night, compared to paid rates of $1,000-$2,000 per night after taxes. That’s like paying $550/night with points from this deal. If you have a Hilton credit card or elite status and stay for 5 nights you’ll need 88K points/night or just $440/night if you buy points for 0.5 cents each.
The Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hillsis 120K points/night, compared to paid rates of $1,000-$1,500 per night after taxes. That’s like paying $600/night with points from this deal. If you have a Hilton credit card or elite status and stay for 5 nights you’ll need 96K points/night or just $475/night if you buy points for 0.5 cents each.
The hotel has a Rolls Royce house car that can take you to the excellent nearby kosher restaurants.
With a 5 night stay you can pay 96K points per night with the 5th night free award that is available to Hilton cardholders and elites. That’s an incredible value compared to the paid rates of $1,000-$2,000 after taxes.
The Waldorf Astoria Jerusalem charges 95K points per night when they have standard room availability.
If you have a Hilton credit card or elite status and stay for 5 nights you’ll need 76K points/night or $380/night with this deal.
The Waldorf Astoria Jerusalem is one of the finest hotels in Israel.

The past 14 months have been an emotional one for us all.
As you likely know, we launched a tefillin campaign on October 9th 2023. Our original goal was to give out 30 pairs, but thanks to incredible support from donations and from men around the world committing to wearing tefillin every day for life, we expanded that goal. When the number of people murdered by Hamas rose to 1,200 we decided to get one pair of tefillin for every soul we lost on Simchas Torah.
Thanks to a generous donor via Colel Chabad all donations to our soldiers’ campaign are being doubled!
Have corporate matching at work via Benevity? Be sure to use that before the end of the year to increase our impact even more!
In the past year, we have all witnessed miracles with the war in Israel. As we know the Torah tells us Tefillin is our weapon in fighting the spiritual war against our enemies. Enable others to wrap their own tefillin today and help protect Yidden around the world.
This Chanukah you can spread the light and help the miracles of Chanukah continue throughout the year by enabling others to have their own pair of tefillin to wrap!
Here are some updates from the past 14 months:
3,725 Civilian Men committed to start wearing tefillin every day. With 826 verified requests waiting for their own pair.
5,987 IDF soldiers signed up to receive a pair of tefillin and start wearing them daily. With 300 verified requests waiting for their own pair.
2,500 pairs of tefillin have already been distributed.
1 revolutionary tefillin kashrus program. We haven’t shared the details on this yet. But we have taken modern-day systems and safeguards to revolutionize kashrus standards in STAM. We now produce all of our own tefillin fully in-house and are excited to share more on this soon.
7 employees have been hired (via a direct donation) for tefillin production and logistics.
2 employees have been hired (via direct donation) to optimize the campaign’s impact with recipient verification and engagement.
As it stands now, we have just about used up the funds raised to produce and distribute the 2,500 pairs we have. To enable us to keep going, please donate and we can continue to produce and distribute tefillin to men who would otherwise not be wearing tefillin, but have committed to putting on for life!
For partnership opportunities, DAF donations, or questions, please email JJ@DansDeals.com
I am very proud to say that 100% of the money raised has gone towards the production of tefillin and distribution (shipping cost) of those tefillin. We have an incredible system in place to ensure the costs are as low as possible and the tzedaka money raised is utilized as best as humanly possible! Even all ads that we ran were only run via a directed donation, and the same goes for our employees. Want to see some of the pairs given out? You can do so on the Tefillin Connection Instagram page here.

Update, 12/30: You must spend your Q4 2024 $50 credit by 12/31. You can buy a $50 Gift Card here.
Update, 12/18: The credit has now posted:
Update, 12/15: As predicted in the original post below, I will receive a credit for the $50 Hilton gift card that I purchased on my card.
The statement credit hasn’t yet posted though it will in the coming days as my card benefits tracker has been updated to reflect the $50 credit has been triggered for this quarter:
Typically, credits post within a few days of the benefits tracker updating.
During your stay, you can have the front desk add the value of your gift cards against your folio balance. Just tell them to run the gift card as a credit card for the full $50 value per gift card.
After enrollment, you will also be automatically enrolled in Hilton for Business perks if not yet enrolled and will get an email explaining those benefits.
Will this replace an existing benefit? That has yet to be determined. Previously, the Dell, Adobe, and Indeed credits were listed as expiring on 12/31/24, but those have been extended to 6/30/25 and can still be further extended. If they are allowed to lapse, I would assume we will still see more benefits added to compensate for their loss.
Either way, you can enroll and start taking advantage of the $50 credit, with the 2024 Q4 $50 credit valid for another couple weeks!
Chase Freedom Flex and Freedom are excellent no annual fee cards thanks to their quarterly 5% categories. While the rewards are marketed as 5% cash back, you’ll actually get 5 Ultimate Rewards points per dollar spent which can be worth much more than 5% cash.
If you max out the $1,500 in bonus spending per quarter you will earn at least 30,000 Ultimate Rewards points over the course of a year (7,500 points per quarter at 5 points per dollar spent) per Freedom card.
You can currently earn a $200 signup bonus in the form of 20,000 Ultimate Rewards points for spending $500 on the Freedom Flex Mastercard. Plus you’ll earn 3 points per dollar on drugstore and dining purchases and 5 points per dollar on all Travel purchased through Chase Travel.
While Chase Freedom Flex is a great card for the bonus categories, it’s not a great card for everyday spending. However, the Chase Freedom Unlimited® card also has no annual fee and earns 3-6.5 points per dollar on up to $20K in spending during your first 12 months. Plus it’s excellent for everyday spending thanks to 1.5 points per dollar that can be earned everywhere with no limit, though it doesn’t have rotating 5x categories. Read more about the Freedom Unlimited card here.
Freedom, Freedom Unlimited, and Ink Unlimited alone can’t transfer points into much more lucrative airline or hotel miles, but if you or your spouse has an Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card,Chase Sapphire Reserve®, or Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card, then you can transfer points from Freedom to one of those cards and from there to your favorite travel currency. Those cards also allow you to redeem your points for paid travel at a value of 1.25 or 1.5 cents per point. The Freedom, Freedom Unlimited, or Ink Unlimited card can also keep your points alive for free if you do close one of those premium cards.
The value of the points will be based on where you use them, but if you use those points for a trip worth where they are worth 2 cents each then you’ll have effectively earned 10% back on those “5 point categories.” The sky is the limit of the value of airline miles as they aren’t tied to the cost of a ticket. That’s good for people in the know and bad for those who are not. 1 mile can be worth 0.25 cents or it can be worth 25 cents, it all just depends on how you use them!
The Spring Hill Times will completely transform the atmosphere in your house. Say goodbye to negativity. The best gift for your spouse or children. Join the thousands of satisfied readers in the US, Canada, England and Eretz Yisrael!

This promo is valid even on basic economy LITE fares.

Virgin Atlantic points never expire!
Virgin Atlantic recently switched from an award chart to dynamic pricing. Close-in pricing is expensive, and you’re better off booking Virgin flights on partner programs like Flying Blue. But there are also excellent values available in the new program.
Partner award pricing is unchanged and there are some notable sweet spots on partner airlines.
Dates changes or cancellations cost the lower of taxes paid or $100 (£70, about $90, if originating in UK).
Flying on Virgin:
A coach saver seat from JFK to London now starts at 6,000 points+$73, that’s just 4,285 points with the current 40% bonus from AMEX.
A premium economy saver seat from JFK to London is 10,500 points+$105, that’s just 7,500 points with the current 40% bonus from AMEX.
A business saver seat from JFK to London is 29,000 points+$255, that’s just 20,714 points with the current 40% bonus from AMEX.
Fees will be higher for the return flight, largely due to the UK APD fee, which rises annually.
Here is a chart comparing some of the old and new lowest saver award rates and fees that I was able to locate:
A flight between NYC and Tel Aviv costs 62K points in coach (44,285 points with a 40% bonus), 84K points in premium economy (60K points with a 40% bonus), or 150K points in business (107,142 points with a 40% bonus).
Here’s what a one-way flight to/from Tel Aviv will set you back in Virgin points, before the 40% bonus:
Zone 1 (1-500 miles): 5.5K coach, 10K premium, 20K business.
Eilat, Larnaca, Paphos, Rhodes
Zone 2 (501-1,000 miles): 11K coach, 17K premium, 28K business.
Athens, Bucharest, Sofia, Tbilisi, Thessaloniki
Zone 3 (1,001-1,500 miles): 17.5K coach, 27K premium, 45K business.
Budapest, Chisinau, Dubai, Dubrovnik, Krakow, Rome, Tivat, Vienna
Zone 4 (1,501-2,250 miles): 26K coach, 32K premium, 70K business.
If you have problems typing in your desired airport you will need to click the location icon as shown below and manually search for your destination by country and state. If your destination still isn’t available you will have to call Virgin Atlantic to book award travel to that destination.
If the option to search for points isn’t available you also may need to try selecting another airport, click on pay with points, and then switch the airport. For example, NYC to LAX didn’t work for me at first, but I switched the destination to San Francisco, clicked on pay with points, and then switched back to Los Angeles.
On the search page you can select one-way or round-trip, exact dates, flexible within 1 week, or within 5 weeks by changing the word “dates” in the URL to “calendar” on the award calendar search results page. You can also change the class of service by clicking on “Show advanced options.” When you are viewing the award calendar you can toggle it to show direct flights only.
There are still some domestic bargains, though Delta often blocks partner award space within 3 weeks of a flight.
For example, a flight NYC to Cleveland will be 7.5K Virgin points in main cabin with wide open availability, as long as you book 3 weeks in advance:
A zone 1 JFK-Cleveland coach ticket is 7.5K Virgin points (5,357 points with a 40% bonus) or 21K points (15,000 points with a 40% bonus) in first class:
Vs 21.5K in main cabin with Delta miles or 31K in first class with Delta miles:
Before the 40% bonus:
A zone 1 flight from Cleveland, Detroit, or Pittsburgh to NYC is 7.5K Virgin points in economy and 21K in first class.
A zone 2 flight from Atlanta to NYC will is 11K Virgin points in economy and 41.5K in first class.
A zone 3 flight from Miami to NYC is 16.5K Virgin points in economy and 59.5K in first class.
A zone 4 flight from Denver to NYC is 18.5K Virgin points in economy and 66.5K in first class.
A zone 5 flight from LA to NYC is 22K Virgin points in economy and 70K in first class.
A zone 6 flight from NYC to Lima is 35K Virgin points in economy and 80K in first class.
A zone 7 flight from NYC to Buenos Aires is 44K Virgin points in economy and 105K in first class.
A zone 8 flight from NYC to Tel Aviv is 49.5K Virgin points in economy and 130K in first class.
A zone 9 flight from NYC to Tokyo is 65.5K Virgin points in economy and 165K in first class.
Infant lap child awards on international flights are a bargain. While Delta charges 10% of the paid fare, which can be astronomical on one-way flights, Virgin charges just 1,000 points in coach or 5,000 points in business class each way:
Cancelations and changes officially cost $50, but are capped at the taxes paid, so are just $5.60 for a domestic one-way.

You only need 72.5K Virgin Atlantic points (51,785 points with a 40% bonus) to fly one-way from the west coast to Japan or 85K points (60,714 points with a 40% bonus) to fly one-way from the east coast to Japan in first class. There are fuel surcharges which are tied the price of oil from a couple months ago. Those are currently about $250 each way.
Or you can fly in business class for just 52.5K Virgin Atlantic points (37.5K points with a 40% bonus) one-way from the west coast to Japan or 60K points (42,857 points with a 40% bonus) to fly one-way from the east coast to Japan.
Unfortunately, you do need to call Virgin Atlantic to book travel on ANA at 800-365-9500. You can search for ANA award space on United.com.

Will you transfer points to Virgin Atlantic to take advantage of this bonus? What other award sweet spots do you take advantage of?
Update: Hertz Executive Customer Service responded to me that transferring points will extend the expiration date by 5 years from the date of the transfer!
Points can be transferred to an immediate family member, once per calendar year. Officially, the recipient needs to have made a rental in the past 12 months. However, I was able to call Hertz and transfer all of my points to my wife, despite her having no rental activity!
Remember that in addition to the hard 5 year expiration date that goes into effect on 12/31, you also need to have activity every 12 months to keep points alive.
Originally posted on 8/19:
Hertz may just be the most unethical company on Earth. They have a long history of no-notice changes, but the latest takes the cake.
In 2019 they changed the expiration policy on points without notice, requiring a rental every 18 months instead of 24 months.
And starting on 12/31/24, all points will expire 5 years from when they were earned, regardless of activity. You can book rental cars for future travel, but if you need to cancel the rental, your points may immediately expire.
They also designated the vast majority of the year as a peak date, to raise award costs even more.
It’s one thing to require activity to keep them alive, but Hertz always advertised that points would never expire. To apply an expiration to them retroactively is dirty pool.
Personally, I purchased Hertz points through Daily Getaways a few times over the years, though I never got around to redeeming most of them.
I dug back into the Internet Archive and confirmed that the Terms and Conditions of those sales said that points would never expire as long as you maintained account activity.
I contacted Hertz and Daily Getaways. Hertz told me to go pound sand and that my points would all be wiped out on 12/31/24, even though they were purchased with the promise that they wouldn’t expire.
However, Daily Getaways actually refunded the price paid for the points for purchases that I made dating back to 2013 via a check that they sent to me! Good thing I saved the email receipts. That’s truly incredible customer service!
If you purchased points from Daily Getaways and haven’t been able to redeem them, you can write to them for help at help@dailygetaways.com. Let us know what happens!

While the terms don’t officially allow for gift cards, you will get reimbursed for physical gift card purchases, based on my experience. Unfortunately, those are only sold for a minimum of $150 online, so you would effectively get a 33.3% discount on those. Online eGift cards won’t work.
However, you can buy $50 gift cards in Saks Fifth Avenue stores and those will be reimbursed in full based on my experience.
