chany

thanks Dan, just spent an hour trying to book tickets and they weren’t working, getting frustrated then this popped up. thanks!

Mo

Dan, I have a question regarding using avios points when I use the points from NY to Toronto it charges me $5.60 but for the way back it charges me $45. Do you know why that is the case?

dave

Any idea how long the sale will go on for?

Dan

@Mo:
That’s normal, it’s due to airport taxes.

@dave:
Nope, sorry.
Book now and you can cancel until Monday night.

Mo

Thanks Dan for the quick response!

sam

What are the dates of this sale i cant seem to find it
Im looking for this coming weekend Jan 1

Dan

@sam:
Reading the post is usually a good place to start.

Yehuda

I was able to book it round-trip from LGA

Dan

@Yehuda:
For what price?

Yehuda

Booked on Orbitz for $120.06 per RT ticket

karin

i just booked a weekend in June on Priceline. 112 as advertised! wow – incredible deal!!

flaco

I wanted to book my 14 year old son one way yyz-lga, but had to do it on westjet.com because priceline won’t book under 15 yr old alone. Came out more expensive ($120.16CDN, about $87USD).

Is there a workaround for this? (to book a 14 yr old on priceline.)

leah g

when i tried adding my baby under 2 they said i need to call airline directly. do you know if west jet charges for infant?

Dan

@flaco:
Did you try Orbitz?

@leah g:
Probably some taxes. At this rate I’d book the infant a seat (just make the child 2 years old) so that you can bring a carseat onboard and not have to hold it.

flaco

Orbiz doesn’t allow under 18!

“Children under age 15 must travel with someone age 18 or older.”

I believe I tried expedia in the past and they also didn’t allow

Dan

Personally I’d book on Priceline and make the kid 15 in that case.

WestJet only requires an unaccompanied minor fee for kids under 12, so the age won’t matter otherwise. Age isn’t printed anywhere on a ticket and is generally meaningless.

My kids fly on Avios tickets as born in 1911 and 1913…

Ergel

Taxes for infant are just under $25 CAD.
For an hour flight don’t think it’s worth spending the $112 on a ticket for the kid. I’ll deal with infant at the airport

Dan

@Ergel:
Fair enough. Only issue is the infant carseat really.
Many experts advise against gate checking them as they can get damaged that way.

Ergel

“Many experts” requires citation. Also depending on which flight you are on not the last one of the day, not Monday morning, etc.) the flights usually aren’t full anyways and you may be able to convince the gate agent to bring your car seat on the flight.

Dan

@Ergel:
GIYF 🙂

Ergel

Wow. Never heard of that before. But seems if you gate check it most of the concerns go away. Again, assuming you can’t get an empty seat anyways

Dan

@Ergel:
If anything I’d box it and check it.
At the gate they always seem to throw the bags…

Then again if you have a stroller with an infant carseat you’ll have it at the gate.

We used to play the lottery and usually got it onboard, but after losing that lottery a couple times we just started paying for an infant seat. Makes life easier at the end of the day and there’s no doubt that it’s safer for the child and the seat aside from your own sanity.

AJ

It only seems to let me be booking single seats and not a group. Is that normal?

Dan

@AJ:
It can happen.

Steve

Thanks Dan..i just booked for 3 entire families to Toronto for a bar mitzvah…

rob

is this airline ok to fly or is it like spirit

Ari

@rob
It’s great. It’s like the JetBlue of Canada.
@rob:

Newbie

How do i ensure i get the x3 points with AMEX Premier Rewards? (I thought standard points for travel with that card is x2)

Dan -- different Dan

Looks like the other airlines are joining the fight. AA has flights for $131, compared to $127 on WJ.

th

when is this price available till

Yosef

Thanks. Just a curiosity; my daughter is going with a bunch of girls who booked on orbitz. I went to priceline first, but they did not have the same flights available.

Also, I booked through your link with the idea that you will get something for it; trying to help antoher Yid. Is this in fact the case?

Thx again

ben

i think this sale is DEAD i tried orbiz and price-line the price is 167$ rather the 113$ and priceline is even more expensive
