Delta has award flights between JFK and San Salvador in first class for just 6,000 miles each way!
Flights are available on select dates from late August through next March.
You can book a nonstop flight with excellent award space, or on limited dates you can find routings available via Los Angeles, with a lie-flat Delta One seat from JFK to Los Angeles! You can always just get off the plane in Los Angeles, though you wouldn’t be able to check bags if you wanted to do that…
Fly nonstop:
Or book a flight via Los Angeles!
A hidden city ticket wouldn’t work on the return booked as San Salvador to JFK via Los Angeles, as the Los Angeles to JFK flight would get cancelled when you don’t show up for the San Salvador to Los Angeles leg.
There are currently no cancelation fees/redeposit fees!
You can instantly transfer miles from AMEX to Delta from cards that earn Membership Rewards points, including:

- AMEX Platinum Business

Simchos Beis Delta comeback!
If none stop is selected would it be lie flat ?
No, just the JFK-LAX segment is lie-flat.
Any way to just search for dates that have JFK-LAX for 6K miles in first class?
Try these out:

Found 5,500 points in comfort+
If saving 500 skymiles (worth $5) is worth it for you to sit in Y+ rather than F, go for it!
Is there any way to just fly to LAX for that price?
Yes, read the post.
Make sure to pack the big guns for a trip to San Salvador
Why
I think it’s from the more dangerous places on planet earth. Google it.
Delta not letting me book the flight . Anyone else have this problem ?
How do you get monthly view on delta.com ?
What does it cost in USD to purchase 6k miles necessary for the trip?
Any kosher food in San Salvador?
How to I book this using flying blue miles?
Just booked LAX-SAL rt F for 16.5k pax 3/1-3/7. Barely any major hotels there but likely staying at Courtyard Cat 2 for 57.5k for the 5 nights. Meh for the hotel, but the flight is a steal. It’s normally 75k rt.
no DDF’s trip reports – so i’m out 🙂
And for that reason “I’m in”
ha ha. i use the TR as convenient quick start tour guide. i too prefer places not overrun by others.
When you say others… You mean Jews?
I’ve somewhat naively travelled around El Salvador without incident, but given what I now know, I don’t think I’d do it again. I remember things like walking into a restaurant and the host greeting me at the door with a handgun stuck in his waist. Not exactly comforting.
Had that at my local 7-11
That’s Baltimore for you!
What’s the matz
Is there anything to do/see/eat/visit down there?! Beautiful nature ich veist?
No chabad. One conservative shul(?) With Saturday morning prayers.
Only Points hotels are in the main city of San Salvador. Nothing on the beach but locally owned stuff. You can date trip the beach from San Salvador. 30 45 minutes Drive
Relatively small country so you could date trip a lot of stuff from San Salvador which is centrally located
Looking forward booking a trip to the murder capital of the world.
the lax connecting flights seem to be dead..
now even jfk – sal starting at 12k
July through November has many dates starting at 10K in F. From December through March now starts at 12K instead of 6K.
Is this still true:
“There are currently no cancelation fees/redeposit fees!”
I am looking here: https://www.delta.com/us/en/change-cancel/overview
under section : “Cancel or Refund Your Flight”
For non refundable tickets after 24 hours there is a cancellation fee.
That’s not for awards.
Are the airport / immigration fees fully refundable on the awards tickets, or only the Skymiles?
Fully refundable.
Hi Dan thanks for the post would you know if my wife has no passport due to expiration would she be able to board first leg so we can get to lax?
“There are currently no cancelation fees/redeposit fees!”
That is for all destinations? Even after 24 hr.?
For non-basic awards, yes.
Thank you.
Please clarify; there is no Fee only for first class tickets, or only for Basic economy ticketing there is a fee ?
Only basic has fees.
Does anyone know if my wife has no passport due to expiration would she be able to board first leg so we can get to lax?
Potentially risky.
Everyone should have a passport at all times IMHO, why not renew it?
Thanks for the response the time for renewal is very long like 2/3months
That can be expedited.
No. Need passport because final destination is another country. She can book two separate flights/one way tickets otherwise boarding can be denied. I forgot my passport when I was doing a multi city trip. A had a flight from from Ohio to Canada. It stopped in NY (home town) and I said I can have someone bring it to me and they told me no. Denied boarding. Expedite it as Dan stated.
Anyone finding these with Los Angeles for this low points amount still?
booked direct in delta 1st for return el salvador to jfk. they said that lunch is served but there’s no option for a kosher meal.
can anyone weigh in? is it because there’s nothing kosher in origin city? any tips?
