Update, 2:50pm: This post has been updated with additional details provided by Icelandair.

Back in late 2010s, WOW Air offered dirt cheap flights between North America and Israel via Iceland.
That airline has since bit the dust, but Icelandair offers inexpensive flights between North America and Europe and they are now adding flights to Israel next year! Flights are already available for purchase on their website.
Starting 5/10, they will fly from Reykjavik to Tel Aviv on Sundays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 8:20am, arriving at 6:20pm (5:20pm in October) the same day.
Starting 5/11, they will fly from Tel Aviv to Reykjavik on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays at 11:10am (10:10am in October), arriving at 3:35pm the same day.
The flight will be operated by a 757-200 from 5/10-5/24 and 9/13-10/30. It will be operated by the 737 MAX 8 from 5/26-9/11.
After October 30th the flight will go on hiatus for the winter, but the airline hopes to bring it back in Spring 2024, based on the route’s performance.
The schedule means the plane will sit on the ground in Israel for a whopping 17 hours (!) in order for transit passengers to have short connections in Iceland between North America and Israel, so the route will have to perform well to overcome the poor utilization of the aircraft.
Icelandair also offers free stopovers in Iceland and I’d highly recommend doing that. It’s a beautiful country and the drive and numerous incredible sights and activities from Reykjavik to Jokulsarlon are simply beyond words. I’ve done it once and hope to it again one day at a more leisurely pace.
You can bring your own food into Iceland or contact Chabad to arrange for food in Iceland.

Air Baltic, Alaska, JetBlue, Finnair & SAS are all code shares curious if any sweet spots there..
Cannot find flights from chicago
I believe legally the food you bring into Iceland must be previously cooked! Not raw meat, chicken or fish!
Is this a LCC? Extra $$$ for anything and everything?
most of their flights will be on a 737 max not to comfortable for such a long flight!
Can you use points? Airline partners or chase points?
yes, use Alaska airline mileage plan
They should fly to Greece or Cyprus as a way to utilize the plane from TLV for a short while.
They can’t an airline can only fly from and to their original country. For example united can’t fly from ewr to cyprus and from Cyprus to tlv…
Ever heard of 5th freedom flight?
but if they have a ‘slot’ thay may
i’m not a hundred percent sure but i think all of EU counts as one country
Yay! We love WOW, flew w/’em a few times in 2018.
Having trouble finding workable dates with a few day stopover.
me too.
Does this come with a checked luggage?
ehh..
why can’t they just get a widebody?
also if you miss your connection you could be stuck there for hours!
you should mention that they are just copying what israir did last summer
If they just start service a few days earlier, this would be a huge deal for Lag B’omer !
Not sure why this is news. I checked their prices and it’s not even close to the prices of WOW.
Is this low cost airline like wow air was? You had to pay for water…
