If your luggage gets lost our damaged you may have no one to talk to.
God always listens.
Neither Iberia nor El Al will take responsibility for lost luggage. This had actually happened.
So book the all-Iberia itinerary.
Or buy insurance. Travelers insurance for such a flight is pretty cheap and it includes medical insurance and lost luggage.

FYI, Flights on Iberia from Chicago ORD to TLV for these dates are also really low at $627. (When I was checking last week the best prices were more in the $800-$900 range, so this is a really good deal!!) So it’s not just JFK that has this deal….

They don’t care where you stay. Your flight dates must have you Israel over Shabbos. You cannot use this deal to fly from Sunday to the following Thursday.
it means that the between the outbound and return must be over the weekend. not necessarily in tel aviv, just in israel (in other words, won’t work for sunday through thursday)
Doesn’t necessarily have to be Israel. I could spend Saturday night in Amman, Petra, or Cairo just as well.
If you transfer to Elal on the way there then you won’t get your luggage, on the way back you’ll probably miss the connection…

Dan, any idea why the Iberia website says that the MAD-TLV legs of the trip are operated by “Ellinair” when I chose the flights operated by El Al? Should I be concerned?

I just spoke to an Iberia customer service rep and she said that if part of the trip is being operated by El Al, then the luggage will not get transferred automatically and you will need to re-check it in yourself.
Correction – spoke to El Al and they said that they do transfer the luggage automatically.

Yes, you can order Kosher food on Iberia (don’t know Hechsher). You have to call El Al separately to order Kosher meals for the flights that are operated by El Al.

That is a good question. I once flew Iberia and when going through security for the transfer flight in Spain, they wanted to confiscate several items from us. This includes a mommy stroller clip which they considered dangerous. I asked to speak to a supervisor in English. They responded Sir, this is SPAIN. No one to talk to. Having said that, the Iberia experience was just fine.

Thank you. We booked a 12 day trip for Purim. For the best price, we have a 5-6 hour layover in Madrid, not great, but I’d rather spend that money on hotel, restaurant, tours, while we’re in Israel visiting family.

Orbitz is the worst at cancelation.
They only give you a credit. The credit expires after 1 year. When using that money you’ll be charged a 300 dollar fee from orbitz.
