Earlier this month I wrote about the SAS kids fly free promotion.
An adult can bring up to 8 kids for free on a roundtrip ticket in SAS coach or SAS Plus class from the USA to Denmark, Finland, Norway, or Sweden. Kids must be under 12 years old for the promotion. Tickets must be booked by today and depart from the USA between 8/20/18-3/30/19.
But can you stack that with a cheap flight to Israel?
Ultra-low cost carrier Norwegian flies nonstop from Copenhagen and Stockholm to Tel Aviv on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.
OneWorld airline Finnair flies nonstop from Helsinki to Tel Aviv between 2 and 5 times per week. A round-trip Finnair flight would cost 25K BA Avios+$144 or 40K AA miles+$44.
Other airlines have cheap flights from Denmark, Finland, Norway, or Sweden to Tel Aviv, but make an additional connection.
A nonstop SAS flight from Newark to Copenhagen from 12/5-12/14 with 1 adult and 8 kids would cost $1,075.49:
A nonstop Norwegian flight from Copenhagen to Tel Aviv from 12/7-12/13 with 1 adult and 8 kids booked on Norwegian.no using Chrome Translate would cost 14,188 NOK or $1,773. Be sure to use a card without foreign transaction fees.
That’s a total of $2,848 for 9 passengers or $316 round-trip per passenger from Newark to Tel Aviv via Stockholm. There’s an overnight in Copenhagen on that return flight, so you’ll also be on the hook for a hotel room in Stockholm for the night.
Or you can always stay longer in Scandinavia. Last year I explored Svalbard, Bodo, and the Lofoten Islands. From the polar bears to the Northern lights, it was truly amazing!

@Dan any review on that airline? Never flew with them before, and to fly with kids I wanna be sure it’s flying..
SAS or Norwegian?
They’re both fine.
Also what time tonight is it closing? I’m in NY.
is this from ny or newark to israel
I tried to make it work for Sukkes in Israel but couldn’t make it, as the option to leave NY is Sep 16 but there’s only afternoon flights and 17 there’s no connection to TLV with Norwegian.
NYC to HEL I don’t see non-stop at all.
good luck to the one adult handling the 8 kids 🙂
Seems to still be alive. Also, comes out even cheaper booking through Expedia or Chase UR portal than booking via SAS direct.
How often do they have this promotion?
How does one book tonight?….?
is this still on?
Hey @dan, sorry for bumping this old post.
You wrote to make sure to use a card with no Forex, do you have an idea why chase is from the only banks that still doesn’t offer no forex with no annual fee?
Thanks
