Iberia is offering a 25% discount on award flights to Madrid:
You need to book awards by 3/18 for travel between 10/1-12/15.
You can transfer AMEX, Chase, or Starpoints to Iberia Avios.
You can also transfer British Airways Avios into Iberia Avios, but both accounts have to have been open for 90 days and both accounts must be active. Transfers from AMEX or earning miles from other sources activate an account. You can combine points via this link via the BA site. Sometimes that link doesn’t work so you can also try this link on the Iberia site to combine points. If you don’t have an account it’s a good idea to open one now here to allow you to make transfers in the future.
Taxes and fuel surcharges are far more reasonable with Iberia Avios than British Airways Avios:
JFK-Madrid in coach is 25.5K Avios+$193:
JFK-Madrid in business is 51K Avios+$218:
You can read more about the Iberia program here.

You can even mix and match different combos. Can get as little as 5,100 points + $480 OW.
how’s their business class?
lie flat. great. also lie flat from madrid to TLV, one of only a few carriers that has lie flat from europe to TLV
A350 being added in August. Flew their A340 last August in J. Was decent.
Connecting flight on AA to JFK or ORD would be extra?
You can substitute ORD for JFK and fly direct from ORD->MAD at the same price.
I don’t live close to either. Thus my question regarding a positioning flight to either hub.
If you tack on MAD-TLV do you still get the discount?
Yes – would really appreciate if you can give your views on the value we could get on a JFK-MAD-TLV award booking with this discount (assuming it even applies).
Dan – how much would the JFK-TLV trip be, and do you think that ranks up there as best award option available for that time of year? Thanks!
Clickbait
How so?
Probably because it’s only for 45 (undesirable) days out of the year.
Title ignores fuel surcharges.
The $200 is the deal killer? Most of that are actual taxes.
Now if it BA and their $1,000 fuel surcharges you would have a valid complaint.
Unless you live close to JFK or ORD it’s not a deal
“unless” serious?!
Iberia has the lowest fees for award trips, out of European carriers. Air Berlin, used to be the best, now its Iberia
BA household accounts ARE NOT eligible to transfer, keep this in mind.
Did this change? I have a household account and thought I transferred BA Avios to IB Avios a few years ago.
IB customer service is less than par. aircraft and flight are acceptable and lie flat bed is great. but the communication barrier and lack of customer service might make someone think twice, if those are important
What’s the cost of changing our mind? -within 24 hours? -beyond 24 hours of making the reservation?
Dan – I been trying to use my BA Avios mikes on a RT to Israel for Succot from Boston. I have an open Iberia and BA account. It sounds like you’re saying wihtout question the best move is to move my points to Iberia from British and then book? How long does it take for transfer points to post in my Iberia account?
38k Premium economy rd trip or 51k business. What you guys think? For two tickets
Business, no-brainer.
Dan – how much would the JFK-TLV trip be, and do you think that ranks up there as best award option available for that time of year? Thanks!he discussion
My transfers between BA and IB have taken just minutes. I’ve flown this route to Israel several times in business class, but I’ve never seen lie flat seats.
I’ve been trying to get someone at BA to help transfer my points to Iberia. The BA website does not allow one to transfer the points you need to call in and the reps on the phone are not knowledgeable as to how to transfer the points. It is not a seamless process.
