If you matched your status from another airline to JetBlue you can even cancel your flights for free.
If you have a JetBlue Plus World Elite Mastercard you always get free checked bags and a 10% points rebate, but in this case you’ll get a full 25% rebate as both the 10% rebate and the 15% rebate will come off the original points rate paid. The card comes with a 30K signup bonus for spending $1,000 in 90 days. It has a $99 annual fee but it also comes with 5,000 bonus points (5,500 after the rebate) every year that pretty much covers the cost of the card.
What’s are JetBlue points worth? It all depends on the flights you take, but here are 3 examples:
1. JFK-Chicago on 12/6 is $53.10 or 2.9K points+$5.60. That’s normally a value of 1.64 cents per point (53.10-5.60/2,900). With the 15% rebate you’ll pay 2,465 points after getting back back 435 points and the value will be 1.93 cents per point (53.10-5.60/2,465). With a 25% rebate you’ll pay 2,175 points after getting back 725 points and the value will be 2.18 cents per point (53.10-5.60/2,175).
2. Palm Springs, CA to JFK on 12/10 is $65.10 or 3.9K points+$5.60. That’s a value of 1.53 cents per point (65.10-5.60/3,900). With the 15% rebate you’ll pay 3,315 points after getting back back 585 points and the value will be 1.79 cents per point (65.10-5.60/3,315. With a 25% rebate you’ll pay 2,925 points after getting back 975 points and the value will be 2..3 cents per point (65.10-5.60/2,925).
3. Newark-Fort Lauderdale on 12/11 is $56.10 or 3.2K points+$5.60. That’s a value of 1.5 cents per point (56.10-5.60/3,200). With the 15% rebate you’ll pay 2,720 points after getting back back 480 points and the value will be 1.86 cents per point (56.10-5.60/2,720). With a 25% rebate you’ll pay 2,400 points after getting back 800 points and the value will be 2.1 cents per point (56.10-5.60/2,400).
4. JFK-San Juan, Puerto Rico on 12/5 is $94.90 or 5K points+$5.60. That’s normally a value of 1.79 cents per point (94.90-5.60/5,000). With the 15% rebate you’ll pay 4,250 points after getting back back 750 points and the value will be 2.1 cents per point (94.90-5.60/4,250). With a 25% rebate you’ll pay 3,750 points after getting back 1,250 points and the value will be 2.38 cents per point (94.90-5.60/3,750).
5. JFK-Havana, Cuba on 12/11 is $98.90 or 3.5K points+$5.60. That’s normally a value of 2.67 cents per point (98.90-5.60/3,500). With the 15% rebate you’ll pay 2,975 points after getting back back 525 points and the value will be 3.32 cents per point (98.90-5.60/2,975). With a 25% rebate you’ll pay 2,625 points after getting back 875 points and the value will be 3.55 cents per point (98.90-5.60/2,625).
6. JFK-Bermuda on 12/4 is $76.90 or 3.7K points+$5.60. That’s normally a value of 1.93 cents per point (76.90-5.60/3,700). With the 15% rebate you’ll pay 3,145 points after getting back back 555 points and the value will be 2.27 cents per point (76.90-5.60/3,145). With a 25% rebate you’ll pay 2,775 points after getting back 925 points and the value will be 2.57 cents per point (76.90-5.60/2,775).
Or if you want to fly in a private Mint suite:
Los Angeles-JFK on a red-eye on 12/17 is $548.10 or 41.4K points+$5.60. That’s a value of 1.31 cents per point (548.10-5.60/41,400). With the 15% rebate you’ll pay 35,190 points after getting back back 6,210 points and the value will be 1.54 cents per point (548.10-5.60/35,190). With a 25% rebate you’ll pay 31,050 points after getting back 10,350 points and the value will be 1.75 cents per point (548.10-5.60/31,050).
