Is Azerbaijan safe?
is this normal (safe) airline?
@zvi: Are you serious?
http://www.airlinequality.com/airline-reviews/azerbaijan-airlines/
seems pretty good
Turkish: Sure, why not?
Aeroflot: Would rather not, but ok…
Transaero: Uhhhh….
Azerbaijan: Awwww hellllll, no.
@DT:
From the reports I’ve read Azerbaijan is actually very good.
A big step up from Aeroflot/Transaero/Ukraine.
Has anyone flown Business Class with them? Can’t find any reviews.
Did anyone personally go with this airline and had a good experience?
Need a transit visa. 20 bucks each way. The fee is not the issue, it’s just a hassle to get one. You have to mail your it in to their DC embassy.
@anna:
Yes.

“Just wanted to make my report on Azerbaijan Airlines.
I flew from JFK to Israel via Baku, Azerbaijan. They allow two checked in luggage.
The plane on the jfk to Baku leg about an 10 hour flight , is very new and the seats were surprisingly comfortable with ample leg room. The TV screens at your seat is big (the size of the backup camera screen in the 2015 Accord).
To my surprise, they served kosher meals with OU certification to the Jewish passengers. Yes, there was a number of frum yidden aboard the flight. The airport in Baku is very beautiful unlike I ever seen before. When you land in Baku, you go thru transfers control and security. Then layover is about an hour and half.
The plane on the Baku to tlv leg (3-3 1/2 hour flight) is very old and not as comfortable as the jfk leg. The crew on the tlv flight doesn’t speak English very well unlike the crew on the jfk plane. Overall, my experience with this airline has been positive.
Out of any other airline that I have flown to Israel, this has been the best so far and I would use this airline again. Hope this helps anyone who is asking about Azerbaijan Airlines.”

@Jack:
No need for transit visa unless you want to leave the airport.
@Dan: Bro, The reviews are WAY better then United and Us airlines.
theyre all landing on Friday at 11:00. Any other options?
@anna: yes I went with them. I came back last week. The long flight is beautiful and spacious. The shorter flight is not so nice. The airport in baku is gorgeous and is very safe.
I cannot book it with an unticketed infant under 2yrs old. If I buy the tickets for the adults do you think they will allow us to take the baby along?
Just purchased tickets!!! Is there any way to pick your seats?
@Tuchaspipletzadik:
That may be, but all else being equal I’d still prefer a nonstop flight.
But you’re not going to find a nonstop at this price.
@Emak:
That’s when their flight to TLV is.
@avi:
Of course, just call the airline to book the infant.
Though at this price, why not just buy the infant a seat so that you can bring along a carseat and not have to hold the child for 15 hours?
@Joe:
Safe travels!
Call the airline? Try typing in the airline record locator into the airline’s website?
Im unable to find the flights. I search JFK outbound Nov 19 and return Dec 17. Cheapest flight it finds ia on Turkish for $747. Am I doing something wrong?
@JJ:
I didn’t write that 12/17 was a valid TLV-JFK date.
I don’t find any flights are they sold out?
@Carole:
It would help if you wrote exactly what dates and route you are searching for and where you are searching.
I am searching the dates you posted in all combinations from JFK to GYD nothing is coming up for that price
This price is for JFK-TLV (via GYD), not JFK-GYD.
@Carole: Google Flights a great tool to find the dates with the $400 fares. They are very limited but if it works for you it’s a good deal.
Booked for 6 of us to Israel winter break! 12/17-12/27 worked like a charm for me. Thanks, Dan!
@Bert:
Nesiah tova!
Are we positive these are going to be honored, Dan?
@Bert:
I have no reason to believe they won’t be.
jan 7-13 is coming up 582.56
Matrix isnt showing ANY dates that work for this deal Dec, Jan, or Feb anymore. Dead?
Got confirmation from Priceline 45 minutes ago, but airline website still not recognizing the Azerbaijan Airlines booking #. Are we sure they are even getting ticketed?
http://www.azal.az/en/about/news/azerbaijan-airlines-clarifies-issue-of-reducing-air-ticket-prices
am i able to cancel the ticket with in 24 hours if it is outside the U.S?
Are these dates good for succos or pesach?
Booked, so excited!
Flew this airline.
Loved it!!
Friendly, nice. Just no English.
The A340-500’s the airline operates were stored by Airbus Industries after being built in late 2008. Azerbaijan took delivery of the 2 340-500’s in December of 2012. So bottom line, these aircraft have very low time on them and are basically less than 3 years old. The A319’s are approx. 9 – 10 years old, and the A320’s are 4 -5 years old. None of these aircraft would be considered as being old – most of the A320’s flown by jetBlue are older than these birds.
12/24-6/10 is coming up as $622.56
i just flew them a couple of weeks ago.
paid $561 round trip. overall very good flights. jfk-baku is as long a flight as jfk-tlv.
planes from jfk-baku are very nice. business class looked great as well. stopover times very minimal.
March 23 flight from TLV is over Purim. Flight leaves TLV 10:25PM purim night and arrives at JFK 10:55AM purim day. I booked tickets for my family knowing this, but I think I am going to cancel. It is too hard squeezing Purim around this flight.
@Dov: Did you need a transit visa? I am getting different answers when I search online. If so did you need to get it in advance and how much did it cost?
@Dan’s the Man:
You do not need a visa unless you want to leave the airport.
Nov and Dec all flight seem to either arrive or depart on saturday.
Theyre selling out fast! Anyone successful with Thanksgiving or chanukah?
@MG:
None of the dates in the post involve Saturday travel.
Been looking on Priceline and that airline is not even coming up as option????
@Sir:
For dates in this post??
Was doing it wrong in matrix oops. Worked! and booked!!! thanks @Dan (Some dates did go up to 590…)
@dan
Yes
Anyone can fly a plane under normal circumstances. It’s when something goes wrong that experience, and other factors, come into play. The following are in one’s favor: better training, flight crew all speak the same language (i.e. not culled from various countries by a country whose airline industry is growing too fast), English as first language, flight crew not French, Asian, or Eastern European (cultural issues can prevent proper response to emergencies).
“Plenty of DansDeals readers have booked travel and arrived safely”
Umm, plenty of people smoke and haven’t gotten lung cancer.
Look. Air travel is very safe. We’re talking about a very small risk vs. an even smaller risk. Depends how you feel about that.
Whats The Best Price For NYC/TLV In Aug. 14-16 Days Dates Are Flexible
14-16 Days At TLV
Couple of weeks ago Nov dates were pricing out as low as $374 via Orbitz after clicking through via higher Google flights price. I guess it was an auto fuel dump. Not sure if it still works.
Hi,
I live in Israel but I have dual US and Israeli citizenship and passports. Is there anyone who took this flight who live in Israel and did you have any issues with customs when you returned to Israel?
From the airlines website:
US citizens traveling to the Republic of Azerbaijan with AZAL’s New York – Baku direct flights will be able to obtain short stay single entry visas at the visa section of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan at the Heydar Aliyev International Airport of Baku, upon arrival.
Havent been to Israel in too many years. Just booked. Thank you Dan!!
@Hancock: I just booked not for this deal but for next week and the website also doesnt recognize my confirmation number. Also can’t find a working phone number for them.
@jr: EDIT: Priceline says that it takes 24 hours or so to show up in AZAL’s system.
@Reb Yid: Well spoken, we need people with both feet on the ground.
@Reb Yid: @Anonymous: If you think there is a bigger risk with this airline over United, Us Air, etc you have it all wrong. Maybe try commenting about things you know actually know about.
These flights all land in Israel on Friday 11:00 when shabbos is at or before 4:00 pm. Where is the closest chabad house in Azerbaijan? I wouldn’t want to be stuck there for a whole shabbos…
@Anonymous:
Actually it’s utter nonsense.
None of Azerbaijan’s modern fleet have had any incidents. There’s nothing risky here.
@Hmmmm:
Actually there is:
http://www.chabad.org/centers/default_cdo/aid/118599/jewish/Jewish-Community-of-Baku.htm
When exactly is shabbos before 4pm anyway?
Still active this deal?
looks like its gone. same example as above is now $622
Looks like not active anymore cones up $642 per person.
hi dan
are there still any dates available for that price?
I’m having a hard time finding.
Dan (or anyone else)
the http://www.LandandSpirit.com Israel trip (with 92 chabad houses going) is from March 27 – April 5th – can you help us find good deals on flights there as people would sign up now knowing they can save on flights, I think it would help more people go to Israel!
Thank you in advance.
i am putting in the dates indicated but it coming up as $622?
Any good place to bank millage to?
Also it’s worth noting that AA considers GYD as part of Europe. So baku-hnl off peak is 20k
seems dead
just flew home on it and was really impressed, great service.
baku airport is very nice…. and felt very safe…
there is even a chabad house not so far from it…
it look like some fraud. it info it many places, but you can buy ticket. i try on they site- immposible, i call to TA office: they do not have ticket, i cal to NYC sale office, they transfer me from one representative to another and back (whith very poor english) and say me it impossible only one way, and when i agree to one way they told no ticket in any date
Its been 2 days, and the reservation still not showing on Azerbaijan website. Priceline says its confirmed, i called them. Trying to get thru to Azerbaijan Airlines and really difficult! Anyone else having this problem?
If I just have a layover in Baku, do I need a visa?
@Josh:
No.
I saw a comment in a review that stated: AZAL does not allow you to purchase tickets online (with plastic cards) if it is not issued under passenger’s name. They also stated “AZAL holds right to check authenticity of plastic cards during check in and/or boarding”
Is this true?
