Win-Win: Do You Pay Ohio State Taxes? Donate Up To $1,500!
The State of Ohio now allows individual donors to make donations up to $750 through a Scholarship Granting Organization (SGO). You can donate up to $1,500/couple and receive a 100% tax credit, dollar for dollar, towards a taxpayer’s Ohio tax liability. The deadline has been extended to April 15th, 2024 and you can see how much you would owe for 2023 while you file! Make a difference in our students’ lives by designating your tax dollars for scholarships at the Hebrew Academy of Cleveland.
This is a great opportunity to donate to the Hebrew Academy of Cleveland and help our students receive the chinuch/education they deserve!
You can even earn miles on your credit card for the donation, which won’t cost you a cent!
Please share with family and friends who pay taxes in the State of Ohio!
3 Easy steps:
- Make your donation(s)* here before April 15th (before you file your taxes)
- Select Hebrew Academy of Cleveland as the school to donate
- Submit the email receipt to your accountant with your tax documents
You’re done! It’s that easy!

Just keep in mind changes made in 2019 prohibit you from claiming this credit and using it as an itemized deduction on your Federal return – no double dipping!
So to clarify – I pay $1500 now and get it back when I file my OH files and then there is 0 impact to my federal returns?
Correct.
Assuming you pay OH taxes. If you have no OH taxes (NOT refund, taxes, ask your accountant to explain the difference) then you do not get the benefit.
Thanks! I don’t live in OH but sent this to my fam. FYI there are other schools you can donate to in the dropdown like YDH Cleveland

I suggest we put this in shul and yeshiva newsletters. An article like this one in the shul newsletters to explain would help. People should be informed that they lose the federal tax deduction for it. I set up a short link to be easier to type for those who read about it offline. They can use http://bit.ly/ecef
It’s basically a way to get the state to donate $750 (per person) to the school of your choice.
