Boo Maldives…
Indeed, go Bora Bora!
True except Bora has serious shabbos shaila- that’s why I liked Maldives
Spoke to your LOR? Should either be able to avoid d’oraisohs on Friday or follow the local Tahitian community, which observes Shabbos on Saurday.
Dan I understand that Chabad has a psak but many poskim outside chabad recommend avoiding those places for Shabbos due to the safek. Maybe if I had to be there I would seek guidance on what to do but simply wanting to be in an overwater bungalow vacation isn’t a good enough reason to enter such a safek according to rabbis in my circles. I’m not trying to dictate at all. I intended to just point out why Maldives had a significant advantage for me.
This has nothing to do with Chabad.
If that’s what your LOR says, fine. But plenty of non-Chabad LORs have paskened that it’s fine or that it’s fine if you just avoid d’oraisohs.
Can you explain what you mean by “serious Shabbos shaila” please?
Bora Bora, and also Hawaii, are located in the Pacific ocean, very close to the International date line, on the the USA side. There is a machlokes between Rav Tukachinsky and the Chazon Ish as to where the halachic date line is. According to Rav Tukachinsky’s opinion, these islands are on the Asian side of the halachic International date line, in other words, one day ahead of the secular date line. According to this opinion, Shabbos is what the locals call Friday.
There is third view that the halacha follows whatever the local custom is.
Unless you traveling with a minyan and a Torah, going to Maldives for shabbos also isnt recommended for a frum yid . No?
Convenient marketing 😉
Absolutely off my list! I don’t want to go anywhere I am not wanted!
Am I missing something… this raffle is for five days, if there’s a shaalo, why must u stay for shabbos? Why can’t you just do midweek?
And be on the plane on Shabbos? Not much better…
8 hrs flight time PPT-SFO no reason u have to spend shabbos there.
Also, Air France has a nonstop flight from LAX that leaves after midnight on Saturday night and arrives Sunday morning in PPT. Ideal if goal is to avoid shabbos in Tahiti.
Assuming the 135 usd per person transfer from airport to hotel is not included are there less expensive third party options for the boat transfer?
Also, would you or someone on this forum know if this 11:50 pm Saturday night Air France flight from lax frequently has standard award availibility? Ty
I never knew there was a Richmond in Canada. My initial thoughts were Richmond, Virginia. Learn something new everything
Regarding standard award availability, is the standard rate for overwater villa 400k points per night? If yes, is there any availability at this rate in the coming year?
