Last year Amazon started their own “Black Friday” in July sale that was supposed to have more and better deals than Black Friday itself.
While many claim it was a bust, there were some great deals to be had. Those included $10 off $45 of Amazon Gift Cards, and discounts on Amazon devices like the Echo, fire stick, and Kindle tablets. The category coupons were top also very good with 30% off clothing, shoes, watches, jewelry, accessories, 35% off grocery items, 60% off Element Wipes, and more.
This year we’ve seen an uptick in good deals over the the past week for prime members only such as 6 month magazine subscriptions for just $0.99.
Prime Day starts tonight at 3am EDT, aside from being online when it starts to grab limited time offers, here are some tips for snagging the deals you want.
1. You will need to be an Amazon Prime member. You can sign up for a free trial of Prime here to participate in these deals. A prime trial is also free with Amazon Family (which also gets you 20% off diapers and wipes among other benefits) or Amazon Student.
2. Follow deals posted on the Amazon Prime Day Homepage as well as all deals on this page where you can narrow deals by the categories that interest you on the left side of the page.
3. Most of the special Prime Day deals will be featured as Amazon Lightning Deals. The best deals will be claimed very quickly so if you see an item you want add it to your cart the moment it goes live. Once added to your cart you will have 15 minutes to decide whether you want to purchase it or not. If you missed the opportunity to claim something you wanted, join the wait list. You will have to monitor your cart. If the item expires in someone else’s cart, it will then appear in yours and you will have 15 minutes to complete your purchase.
4. Starting at 3am, Get $10 Amazon Credit With A Free 3 Month New Member Audible Trial.
5. Amazon Rewards Visa members can receive $30 off $150+ orders with code: VISA30
6. Keep an eye on other stores like Walmart, Best Buy, Microsoft, and Macy’s. All of these stores had good sales of their own last year.
7. Amazon Echo owners can receive $10 off one $20+ order placed through Alexa.
These deals are already live:
8. You can order an Amazon Dash Button for $0.99 and receive a one time credit of $4.99 towards your first purchase.
9. Save 35% on Select Prime Pantry items.
10. Save 35% on select Luxury Beauty items. As well as $25 off $50+ luxury beauty purchases.
11. Save 20% off Amazon Warehouse deals with codes: WDEARLY20 or WDEARLY.

@Dan what do you mean follow deals on Amazon prime day home page? And how do I do that?
It was regarded as such a joke last year that hopefully it’ll be good this year. They’ll want to redeem themselves in cyberspace’s opinion.
Didn’t I get the audible deal last week?
@Avrohom: The page should be updated throughout the day.
@eli: The same deal will be back on Prime Day.
@Dan or JJ if I buy the Amazon dash button do I get the credit only for items ordered with the button or on anything?
Do I get the credit after making the order or after using it?
I’m not holding my breath for Amazon this year. I am kind of excited to see what Wal-Mart or Target might offer though. I expect Prime day to be a bigger boon to Amazon’s competitors than Amazon itself.
@Anonymous: @Anonymous: “it was such a joke” because you don’t understand what it is.
It is NOT Amazons idea of Black Friday. It’s not a day with “great sales”. It’s a day of “a lot of sales”.
This means it can be .25 cents off thousands of items, and that’s a sale.
@Sos: Seems like it’s just for first time you use a dash button you get a discount on that order.
Will the $30 off of $150 for Amazon CC holders work for buying Amazon GC?
“Offer excludes Amazon.com Gift Cards and gift cards redeemable at other retailers.”

@JJ thanks but will there be a separate page with just the prime day deals or will the deals be all over the today deals page or prime exclusive etc.?
The 20% for Amazon whearhouse doesn’t work for me
Is there a way to get these desks without being a prime member ?? Also us there a way to get it for cheaper. (I’m already after the 30 day trial and canceled since didn’t find it worth it for me now that $100)
Is there a way to use the Dash button along with Subscribe and Save prices?
@Avi:
No.
@Yonti I created a new account it took 5 minutes all you need is an email dress you never used with the account cuz otherwise it wouldn’t work. With that u can do amazon prime trial.
@Avi:
> This means it can be .25 cents off thousands of items, and that’s a sale.
OK, but then why should Dan’s Deals readers care? We want deals, not sales.
BE”H. I f i tried prime for free last year and cancelled it can i also try for free this year.
When i am asked for my cc do they charge immediately or only after 30 day period
TYI
@Avi:
This is false.
In order to qualify as a lightning deal, the deal must be at least 20% off the lowest selling price in the past month.
Is the $10 off $45 in Amazon GC being offered again this year?
Anyone else have an issue with the VISA30 promo code? I bought $152 pretax and it did not work. opened up a chat and the guy assured me I was eligible, told me to place the order and marketing/promotions will follow up, but I am worried I won’t get the discount.
its saying its limited time offer n its expired now:(
