Update, 10/29: This promotion runs through tomorrow.
On DDF you can follow the Wiki to see which drivers have which cars every day and read reports from DDF uers who have been toying around in McLaren and Porsches for free over the past few days.
Images from DDF user EJB, who has been in at least 6 Breakthrough cars so far:
I’d just beware of the launch button, especially if you happen to get up to 88MPH:

Uber is a pretty awesome app. I’ve done day trips to cities like Chicago and NYC without having to rent a car thanks to UberX rides that are cheaper than a taxi and far more convenient. And while people wait for an hour in the taxi line I breeze right into a waiting car. I even earn Starpoints for using Uber on top of 3 points per dollar for charging Uber rides to my Everyday card.
If you’re new to Uber you can get a free $15 Uber ride via this referral link.
From today through Friday, Uber is offering free rides in futuristic cars in Manhattan below 60th street from 12pm-7pm.
Just go to promotions in the app or online and enter the code: BREAKTHROUGH
Then just logon between 12pm and 7pm through Friday and select the Breakthrough option that will appear during those hours in the bottom slider to select a car.
Officially free rides are limited to 30 minutes, but from past experience you won’t be charged even if the ride goes over 30 minutes, though the driver may end the ride at his discretion.
There’s no limit to how many free rides you can take.
There are 16 breakthrough cars including 3 McLaren’s (1 is a $1.1MM McLarenP1 Hybrid Supercar), 3 european solar concept cars, a BMW i8, a Porsche Cayenne Biodiesel, a Tesla Model S, a Lexus CTh, a Lexus RX450h, a Hyundai Tucson Hydrogen Fuel Cell, and more.
I went on the app to request a car and it said no cars available. I clicked to request one anyway and after a few minutes it matched me up with one. Alas I’m not in NYC so I had to cancel without finding out what car I had, but if you do get my driver today be sure to let me know what he is driving 😀
The top 16 Uber drivers in NYC drivers are assigned to new cars each day via lottery, pretty cool gig for them!
DDF user mileagejunkie’s brother got the McLarenP1 while DDF user EJB has been in 2 rides already,an RX450h and a Tesla Model S.
Post what ride you get and who your driver was!

Ride 3 is a few minutes away 🙂
@EJB:
Awesome, who’s your driver?
Hey Dan. Just to be clear, we can use this promo more than once until the 30th?
@josh:
There’s no limit.
Is it limited to one ride between now and Friday w/ the code?
Will they drive from Manhattan to queens for example , Since its outside of Manhattan
So you just bounce around Manhattan for free in McLarens and what not to kill some time. Pretty crazy. I wouldn’t mind getting in on that lotto to spend the day zipping people around to pick up pizza in million dollar automobiles. I had a teacher name Mclaren but she wasn’t a car.
I just got one, and called, the driver said it was a BMW i3, I wasn’t impressed, so I canceled.
Just saw on the uber app under notifications:
“Your trip must begin and end in Manhattan below 59th st”
does the free ride have an expiration? the terms mention that “it may expire at Uber’s discretion”…
also, the link provided above said that I can get a free ride courtesy of Daniel worth up to $15… not $20
How can we get deals like these in Boston? Today there’s a deal for $4 for any Uber Pool…yay…
I requested, been saying “finding your uber” for almost an hour now.
Got a Jeep.
Was nice, but nothing special
Free roundtrip. Not bad for the price. New car. But not to be confused with a McLarenP1 Hybrid Supercar.
“DDF user mileagejunkie’s brother got the McLarenP1 and reports that his driver was Muhammad.”
Aren’t they all named Mohammad?
Got 2 more rides: mclaren MP4 and Porsche Cayenne
@Ejb how are you getting rides? It won’t find any for me…..
@mo: In Chicago recently I was picked up by a Jordanian named Rifki (male).
I thought McLaren was a baby carriage?
NYC gets all the good promos. I was there in early September when there was a big Star Wars release and I got a free ride in a Stormtrooper themed Dodge Charger Hellcat. It was sweet seeing how it was a suprise…and free!
I got one! Riding right now in a 2016 Porsche Cheyenne bio-diesel SUV. Riding around Manhattan to get to a lunchtime shiur from a Rosh Yeshiva visiting from Eretz Yisrael. Awesome.
That was really cool. I actually got a ride in a McLaren by Times Square!
I got a ride home from the shiur. McLaren MP4. $270k car.
The shiur was definitely the best part, but also quite nice of Hashem to send me luxury cars (free!) for transportation so I wouldn’t have to walk in the rain 🙂
@huh: they make cars too. 😂😜
Says code invalid when I type in.
Too bad Shabbos is the busiest of times
Disregard, it was having a space at the end that was causing issues.
Just took a nice lap around the Financial District in a BMW i8
Which class you need to book ? In order to get this which option
“Gurbinder” is riding in a nice Tesla today.
@Any frum drivers?: My first Uber ride was a white shirt and biggest black velvet Yarmulka ive ever seen. Israeli. Lincoln hatchback.
dan the driver (johnny) you cancelled is driving bmw i3 today. don’t know when your pic from but he was driving i8 on tues.
Tried it Wednesday at 6 pm . No cars available after the app requested one for five minutes.
I got a BMW I8 & Tesla Model S Downtown today.
is there any possibility to use uber without a smart phone?
Sitting in Lexus CT hybrid. Just to go cross town was half hour.
@Chanan: You should have taken the subway. A subway car costs way more than a McLaren.
Thank you for sharing this one of the drivers mentioned to me after returning from his day that he had many jews that got it through this just wanted to clarify it wasnt the top 16 drivers Uber picked a company that has many drivers with them it was the same drivers every day. Hope all you guys had a great time
