Earlier today I covered an Air Canada fare with tickets from the US to Europe and Israel from $150 round-trip.
They tweeted that they had indeed dropped the fuel surcharge off of these tickets.
@psorscher1 Some of our international fares excluded the international carrier surcharge. We are in the process of correcting the error. /cl

Now I’m not your Rabbi, Priest, or ethicist. If you are uncomfortable with a price mistake, then don’t do it. Or ask someone who is one. I wrote about some of the halachic (Jewish law) implications of airfare mistakes for the Yated a couple of years ago here.
The main thing about these glitches is not to call the airline during the glitch. And to always book a seat for your infant children at the rock-bottom rates!
There are methods of forcing tickets to price without a fuel surcharge (called fuel dumping), but every now and then the airlines do it to themselves, which makes life far easier:
-El Al did it in 2012 with $336 tickets to Israel.
-USAir flights from NYC to Tel Aviv were $461 without a fuel surcharge in 2013 and they were as low as $347 from other cities.
-Iberia did it with $398 tickets to Tel Aviv earlier this year.
-Etihad had tickets valid to all corners of the globe from $187 when they dropped their fuel surcharge.
-Delta even allowed people to change to nonstop flights for free after their fuel surcharge glitch to Israel.
-Though it wasn’t a fuel surcharge mistake that caused Delta to offer first class tickets to anywhere in the US (including Alaska and Hawaii) for $50 round-trip…
Not that it’s always obvious as to what’s a mistake:
-United flights to Tel Aviv were $287 without a fuel surcharge in 2013 , though it turned out that Widerøe, a Norwegian airline, actually intentionally leaked that deal online so that they would get the commissions for selling the tickets.
-And Delta had $590 non-glitch tickets to Israel just a couple weeks ago.
A DansDeals reader asked Air Canada, after the deal was dead, if the tickets would be honored and they answered in the affirmative:
@sugarfk30 Hello Fraydi, those tickets will be honoured. /cl — Air Canada (@AirCanada) September 18, 2015
Safe travels to all!

Typo – they said the tickets will be honoured.
🙂
Thank you Dan for all you do! And have a wonderful shabbos!
What fare class is this booked in? How can I upgrade to business class using Mikes?
Thank you for the update! Booked for March.
Their, there, they’re….. that is how you spell honour in British english
How often do these price mistakes occur?
Are they still available?

Got the following email from cheapoair:
Dear
Ref: Your Recent Air Tickets Booking #XXXXXXXX
We regret to inform you that the fare you selected for the booking referenced above was misfiled by Air Canada. The airline has informed us that they are unable to honor the misfiled fare and accept your booking.
As a result, we have no choice but to cancel your reservation and credit all amounts, if any, that you were charged for this booking back to your original form of payment.
As always in such cases of airline error we are available 24/7 at 800-566-2345 to assist you in finding acceptable alternate flight options that meet your needs. If you call, please make reference to the above eight digit Air Tickets Booking number.
Again, we sincerely regret the inconvenience that this has caused you, and appreciate your understanding.

@Jake:
Did you have a ticket number?
If you did you should definitely file a DoT complaint here: http://airconsumer.dot.gov/escomplaint/ConsumerForm.cfm
And be sure to reference the Air Canada tweet showing that they’re honoring the deal.
Dan,
I do not have a ticket number. An Air Canada rep said that this usually takes 2 days with Cheapoair.
Also, the tweet from Air Canada says they will honor it if it was booked online or with their call center. I believe they mean that it will be honored if booked only from their website.
@Jake:
Many people received a ticket number yesterday from cheapoair.
Was there a problem with your credit card?
Either way, file the DoT complaint and see where it goes.
The charge is pending on my credit card from Air Canada, I hope it goes through soon so I can get ticketed.
Thanks!
I was ticketed right away with CheapOAir, no such issues here.
dan can you please post a link for how to upgrade using miles with air canada. thanks!
Thank you Dan!
I’ll be Zoiche to visit my grandfather’s grave I haven’t visited in 5 years!
It’s all your Zchys!
Hi Dan,
I had the tickets in my cart and input my credit card info, but when I clicked to confirm the purchase it processed for 2 minutes before saying that the flight was sold out, and then the deal was dead. Any chance I can get the tickets? I believe that with the cheap delta tickets in December 2013 they even honored cancelled tickets. What do you think would be the best approach to take?
Thanks so much
Hey Dan, thanks a ton! Got tix for Jan for me n my wife. To @jake, I got a seat no. right away booking thru cheapoair. Hope u get the tix
I was ticketed immediately by Cheapo Air. Thank you Dan!
Was able to book directly through AirCanada.com within 5 min of the first tweet. Thank you!! Otherwise buying 6 tix even in the off-season is beyond our reach.
Thanks. Got 6 tickets for pesach on cheapoair. Not as cheap as advertised but for peak dates for this airline i paid $570 each so I’m still happy.
Dan, thank you so much! I was able to book 2 tickets for march, but in the rush I forgot to book a for a infant, what are my options?
are the tickets still available?
Dan – i noticed you asked jake if there was a problem with your credit card? I actually booked tickets and they had to do further verification with the credit card and they said they wouldn’t be able to get the lower price. I ended up canceling for a different reason but I’m just curious do you think I would have been able to get the lower price if I hocked around?

@thanks dan:
When I tried it there it just errored out.
Thanks Dan, I got 6 tickets, do you recommend earning the miles flown on these tickets to United or to aeroplan.
@shia
Call air canada and have them add the lap infant over the phone.
I had same situation and it worked.
@YYZ fan: how much were you charged?
Hi, any deals for flights to morocco on or about October 17,2015, from tel aviv , returning to Israel on or about Oct 29,2015? R.Helft
Thanks Dan, I got 6 tickets. The fare type these tickets were booked are Tango L.
Do you recommend earning the miles flown on these tickets to United or to aeroplan or another mileage program.
@sam
$66 USD
@dan how often does this happen? I need to fly from yyz. There are tickets from BA for around 560, shall i book it or wait? Thanks
I was also wondering if anyone knows how often do these prices occur?
@Dan what do you think of the airline in general to fly to Israel? Have people had positive experiences?
Thank you.
@YYZ fan: interesting… cheapoair charged me $142 as AC told me to contact cheapoair directly.
My charge was pending yesterday and now is NOT on my CC statement. Probably either a terrible sign or the luckiest free trip to Europe ever.
Bookmarked this page and that tweet above.
Booked using Air Canada website. Didn’t think it was a glitch just a sweet promo (WOW has 100 dollar tix to europe).
I will update if it gets canceled but will be calling Air Canada to complain if thats the case.
I know this was a while ago but I’m going to Israel in a week because of this, Thanks Dan!!! You rock!!!!!!!!!!!!
