Delta is offering 30% off their level 1 awards to Europe for their elite members and for Delta AMEX cardholders for travel between 11/01/15-02/28/16.
For now it’s an unpublished sale, but I checked winter dates from JFK to Amsterdam, London, and Paris, and availability was surprisingly good.
Of course Delta doesn’t even tell you what level 1 in supposed to cost anymore, but that’s why I saved their award charts before they deleted them. Level 1 coach is normally 30K but is 21K with the sale. Level 1 business is normally 62.5K but is 43.5K with the sale.
You’ll need to login to view the discounted rates. DDF member “yuguy” reports that he closed his Platinum Delta card several weeks ago but is still able to book with the 30% off.
The sale is valid on one-ways in either direction. But it’s definitely worth noting that Delta charges a fuel surcharge for awards that originate in Europe. Therefore if you are flying from North America to Europe you’ll want to book as a round-trip. If you are flying from Europe to North America you’ll want to book travel as one-ways to take advantage of the lack of fuel surcharges for the return.
It’s always easier to search for one-way availability and then book it as a round-trip.

Dan, it’s only for certain Delta AMEX cards. I currently have the free blue Delta Skymiles AMEX card (to which I downgraded from the paid Delta Skymiles AMEX card when the annual fee came due), logged on the Delta site, showing me 60k miles round-trip coach, 125k round-trip business JFK-LHR or ORD-LHR in Nov/Dec.
There is a transatlantic fare sale going with a one day presale for Medallion / cobrand [Delta AMEX cards]. It will be open to all as of tomorrow.â€

I’m seeing 87k+$308 for roundtrip in business. How do you get around the surcharges? Or is that number without the fuel surcharges?
