United’s evening departure last night from Tel Aviv to Newark was cancelled due to aircraft maintenance.
During off-peak times United might have cancelled one of their Newark-Tel Aviv flights so that they don’t have a stranded airplane in Tel Aviv, but those flights are operating at full capacity, leaving no slack to cancel them.
Instead United has added a rare 3rd flight from Tel Aviv to Newark. It departs at 9:30am, arriving into Newark at 2:25pm. As the flight wasn’t being sold it’s wide open:
Expert mode tells us that there are at least 9 saver award seats available in both coach and in BusinessFirst class, an extraordinarily rare sight during the summer.
With United miles the flight costs 42.5K in coach or 70K in business. If you have Singapore miles though you can nab that flight for just 37.5K in coach or 57.5K in business without any close-in fees. You can normally transfer points to Singapore from AMEX, Chase, Citi, and Starwood, but those transfers wouldn’t post until about 3AM EDT the next day at the earliest, which won’t work in this case.
Post a comment if you book and let us know what the empty flight is like!

The ripple affect started on Saturday when UA90 was cancelled, united than added a 3rd flight on Sunday departing EWR at 8pm
This added flight is scheduled to return as UA2070 Tuesday morning it’s will have a long sleep over in TLV
@Dov:
Was that flight also wide open for awards?
How do use singapore miles if tel aviv is not a valid arrival city?
@Anonymous:
You need to use this old-fashioned doodad called a telephone.
@Dan
No, the only inventory that was open was the J,Y,B which is usually the case when united adds a new flight on day of departure
its interesting to see that they pro actively opened all buckets when the flight was initially added to the system it’s also only showed J,Y,B I guess in this case it’s might be really fun flying on an empty 777 over the atlantic
@Dov:
Would be awesome.
I flew EWR-SIN for 19 hours as the only passenger in my section of business class (rear third of the A340), hated to see that fight end.
I just switched 3 pax from tlv-ewr, we were scheduled to fly with OS stop in Vienna, i got errors trying to change it online so i called (united call back)and decided to ask to have the $75 change fee waived since its a ferry flight, she offered to waive the fee but would not credit me the less taxes ($28 per pax) and also would not give me back the 10k less mileage, Which i must be crazy to do so i piad the $75 got back $28 plus 10K miles!! WIN WIN WIN!
Thanks Dan
@Nathan13:
Well done, let us know how the empty flight is!

Just changed my fathers flight as well from a different day. Was having issues online as it kept showing coach even when choosing business so had to call in.
Will expert mode still be available on the new United award site?
Need to tag this one in the Israel category too, please

Amazing how a flight from TLV can sell out so quickly. This wouldn’t happen anywhere else in the world. I wonder how “DansDeals” impacted on this…
Anyone who flew with this flight should please post their experience.
There’s 5 seats available on Sep. 7 Nonstop NYC – TLV for 25k miles + $23 on Flying Blue
