I am planning to buy this phone for for a friend in Europe to use on a GSM network there. T & C of purchase say that the phone must be activated to get amazon prime for one year. Will I be able to activate the phone without having any kind of phone contract to get the prime and then send the phone to my friend in Europe? Thanks for the input!

Be aware that Amazon Fire phones cannot take microSD cards.
Also the battery is not user accessible.

I bought this phone a couple of weeks ago. went to ATT store and got the correct sized SIM and we are happily using the phone. Of course, other SIMs could also be installed. Is it the greatest phone – no. But it works fine, especially for the price. My prime membership was extended by one calendar year.

One other advantage: you can download Prime videos to the Fire phone to watch w/o WiFi. Good for the long road trips w/ the kids. While Primt is not Netflix it has enough to choose from.

Anyone else have issues with the unlock code? I purchased this phone and put in a SIM and it is asking me for a “SIM network unlock PIN” I don’t see the code on the box anywhere. Please advise.

You need to activate the phone to get Prime.

Earlier this year someone posted instructions on how to install the Google Play app store on a Fire phone, but since then Amazon has updated the OS to KitKat so I don’t know if the hack still works.

Is this compatible with METROPCS. I worry when they say compatible with TMOBILE but don’t say METROPCS.
