Quick FAQ’s about this device:
-It costs $0 per month after you buy the machine.
-A phone number is free with Google Voice.
-It works with any regular landline phone. For example a VTech Dect 6.0 cordless phone with caller ID is $24.99, or the 2 handset version is $37.93,
-It makes regular outgoing and incoming calls with caller ID.
-Calls are free from anywhere in the world to US and Canada numbers.

I think they stopped working with google in May 2015.
My phone stopped getting calls.

Dan

@elana:
Works just fine, they’re an official Google partner.
Contact them for support.

sam

Are you really going to post/tweet every single item that is now $10 cheaper bec of amex promo?
Maybe just copy/paste he entire newegg site here

Frumjew777

Can I bring this to Israel and make and receive free calls?

Dan

@sam:
No, but what is already a good deal becomes a great deal.

@Frumjew777:
Yes.

understanding?

So a buy this and a physical landline phone- attach a number via google (how?) and im good for incoming and outgoing usa calls?

Dan
jj

dan -do i need to know router info if i sue my neighbors optimum?

David

Any cheap Internet Provider?

brooklyn

If i moved out of ny to a different state and ported my ny number to ggogle can i use it with this device in different state so i dont have to change my number?

Dan

@jj:
The OBi needs to be plugged into the router.

@brooklyn:
Yes.

Anonymous

@brooklyn:
yes!
you can use this anywhere you have an internet connection (its basically voip – voice service working over internet connection).

tho with 99% of ppl having smart phones, this device is basically useless, you can just use googles app (hangouts) on smart devices (even ipad and ipods) and make calls for free using google voice

shoshana

wow dan, you just roped me into yet another deal. I had just suscribed to a landline for the first time and thought i was getting a good deal at $10/month, but free is def. better!

shoshana

@Anonymous:
its good for ppl like me, who would like a landline for when you can’t find your cell!
also for security reasons, so you can have a few phones around the house

Dan

@shoshana:
Free is better than $10, yes 🙂

EMCAVAP42 Code is dead

Dan

@Dan1:
Just tried, works fine.

Oscar

Do I need Internet at home to be able to use this?

Dan

@Oscar:
Yes.

I love the OBi110 I have it for several years now , to add to the value I have 2 OBi110 with same google # on them and I take one with me when I travel international

if you do travel international take it with you all you will need is an active internet line (available in roor at 80% of global hotels) and a landline phone 🙂

Brenda

Once thing i don’t get:
So how do i get cheap internet rate + router for my home?

Steve

Technically, if I have 2 landlines phones, am I better off with the OBI202, with 2 ports, or better off with 2 stand-alone OBI200’s? For a similar price?

Anonymous

@Dan:
It DOES NOT need to be plugged into the router. Obihai sells a Wifi adapter here: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B007R6F7PS/?tag=cl03f-20 , though I’m sure the quality would be much better with a direct physical connection to the router.

Dan

@Anonymous:
Cool, thanks!

pcgeek

@Steve:
Assuming you mean 2 LINES, better to buy the 202 since there’s less clutter with one device. 2 stand-alone obi200s will work, but why?

AK

can this work with a router already using vonage box?

Achshell

To be clear: This is only good for places that you can get broadband service alone for a reasonable price. Lakewood NJ is not one of them!!!

@Anonymous
I am using my OBI202 with the WIFI USB and it works great, remember that WIFI speed is about 150 MB/s so there is NO difference in Voice Quality

Mitzvah yingel

@שמואל: how do u use the wifi adapter when you have to sign into the wifi network? how does the adapter work

שמואל

@Mitzvah yingel
you sign in from your browser when your computer is connected via wifi to the obihai unit, read here http://www.obihai.com/wifi

Anonymous

@שמואל:
Yes 150 MB/s is more than enough for voip, the issue is that wifi drops from time to time on most networks. If that happens while you’re on a call, well then you’ll feel like you’re using sprint 😉

freebie

@dan Can i connect this to my all in one printer that has fax, and use google voice as a fax nuber free?

Anonymous

@Anonymous: “feel like you’re using spring” Ha! LOL!

שמואל

@freebie
from OBIhai site “The OBi200 supports T.38 fax for reliable facsimile calls over the Internet”

Anonymous

@freebie:
if u mean to say that youll connect the printer to the obi via a reg telephone wire, then yes. i do it no problem

Anonymous

@pcgeek: I guess it’s not necessary. Maybe if I want to take one with me etc? Probably better with 1 obi202.

freebie

@ anonymous more like i want to have my regular optimum line as is, and use this device for faxing only incoming/outgoing using google voice number. Would that work? Point not to have to unplug and re plug when want use fax or phone

Anonymous

@freebie:
so as i said if u attach the printer to the obi box via a reg phone wire, then yes itll work. the obi box basically gives you a live phone line… so whatever you attach to it will work..

EMCAVAP42 has expired

SteveHOU

I currently use Phone Power for VOIP. A major benefit is the App they have for your iPhone. As long as I can snag a Wi-Fi I can make calls using the App on my phone to make calls from my home number. Does the OBi200 have this capability? Thanks.

FYI

Newweg sells the obihai adapter for initially 25.99 (free 2 day shipping with shopprunner) and can effectively be 15.99 after amex checkout. Better than Amazon..
