@paranoid: Just did the JFK-TLV UIA flight with an overnight in Kiev. It was perfectly safe. You can enjoy a night out and get a good and very affordable dinner at Mendi’s (formerly King David’s) in downtown Kiev.

It’s perfectly safe in Kiev, not that you need to stop there if you have just a short stopover like the dates I posted.

Plenty of flights for under $600 on multiple airlines after October.
I’m desperately looking for a flight for late August. Cheapest I’m seeing is $762 which isn’t bad but the last time I flew to Israel was for only $320 thanks to Dan!

I have great appreciation to Dan for these heads ups. His greatest fear to date is dealing with so many individual, case specific requests. For the longest time I thought he ran a travel agency, I found out he’s just a good guy that helps good people. A true Mentsh.

Anyway, I’ve taken this flight round trip 3x to TLV from JFK. The best part of this trip is the long layover in KIEV. I have a private driver take me to kevrei Tzadikim: Baal Shem Tov Z’l, Rebbe Nachman Z’l, and R’ Levi Yitzchok Z’l. The driver costs about $100, the tefillos are priceless.

First, I would like to thank Dan as well as I have taken this flight JFK-TLV and there is nothing to complain about especially if the price is $500-600 which makes it feasible for people to fly who otherwise wouldn’t.

For little over $100 more, I’d rather drive to Dulles IAD airport in Washington and take UA, Swiss Air, or LH and not deal with Mr.Putin’s Neighborhood! I found $710 RT in November and Jan recently.

@Ben: When did it change to Mendi’s? Is the menu the same or have they changed that as well? As the KD it was good value and clean and pleasant. Not haute kosher cuisine but good.

I’ve been in Ukraine several times this year and flew to Kiev (kbp) it’s safe. No worries. Also once your stopping over its a great opportunity to travel to the Holy Tzaddikim that are buried there such as Rebbe Nachman of Breslov buried in Uman. The Baal Shem Tov buried in Mezebuzh. And many more. Take advantage go to Eretz Yisrael and make a stop by these Tzaddikim and Daven for all of Klal Yisrael!

How reliable is this airline? Can I take a flight that leaves Israel at 5:30 AM on Friday and gets into NY at 2:20 PM and not worry about being delayed into shabbos?

It is rediculous that an airline that flys to the usa from israel has no kosher food for the final leg of the flight. So either yu bring food to last 36 hours or you starve

@Jo: Never rely in a fri/ shabbos situation. Anything, anything can happen. Statistics mean nothing. In addition, it is brought down, not to put your self in such a situation unless obviously an emergency.
