Flying Blue miles expire after 20 months but can be extended another 20 months by flying on a paid SkyTeam flight and crediting the miles to Flying Blue.
Of course you’ll be better off using AMEX MR points, Citi TY points, or Starwood Starpoints to transfer points to Flying Blue, but if you don’t have access to those miles then this isn’t a bad deal.
Want to fly nonstop?
You can’t fly nonstop on Delta with Promo awards, but you can at the regular rate of 25K miles each way.
Say you buy 75K miles for $1,561.08. That’s $520.36 per 25K miles.
A one-way flight from JFK to Tel Aviv nonstop on Delta is 25K miles plus $23 tax, so that’s $543.36 for a one-way Delta flight.
Nothing incredible, but if you do need a one-way it will be way cheaper than buying one outright.
A one-way flight from Tel Aviv to JFK nonstop on Delta is 25K miles plus $61.82 tax, so that’s $582.18 for a one-way Delta flight.
Here are all of the dates when Flying Blue should have access to Delta flights. You won’t see these dates on the calendar, but if you click on the date it should show up. These dates have at least 1 award seat as of the time of this post:

Is there any way to transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards to flying blue?
@DJL:
No.
Are Amex Everyday points transferable to flying blue?
Hi, anything for pesach?
@Mark:
Yes.
@Yossi:
Promo awards are currently open for January and February travel.
You’ll need to wait for later months.
Dan- do you know whether you can do a stopover with promo miles on Flying Blue? I wanted to fly from NY to TLV and stop for a night in Paris. The first person I spoke to at Flying Blue said I couldn’t with promo- that would kick me to 25k each way- but I may try to speak to someone else. Was curious if you’ve seen any precedent. Thanks.
I’m trying to purchase 60k miles, but my cost is coming to $1800-something dollars. Am I doing something incorrectly?
im so stupid i donna understand any of this
@M. Serure:
I don’t think you can.
@Ephraim:
When I wrote 60K I meant the 40K+20K bonus.
@maven:
Find a friend who’s a maven?
I dont see the metziah of paying 2 cents per mile?
Can someone clarify for me.
Thanks
What’s the rule for a baby on the lap when using flying blue miles ?
@aa:
The metziah is being able to fly one-way on a good airline to Israel for $366.
As I wrote, if you have access to the miles for less, than that will be even better.
@moishe:
10% of the paid fare.
Dan, can you purchase these miles and use them later, like August?
Is this good from Toronto to tlv?
Do you mean 1,250 miles for the lap child or 10 percent of a money ticket ?
@moishe: the fare ticket no miles for babies under two and same miles amount for over two
@moishe: Dan said “10% of the paid fare” so I’m assuming he meant “10% of the paid fare” and not 10% of the miles. Just a guess. Am I right Dan? 🙂
how do I search for delta flights on flying blue?
Dan, I recently got an offer from United in the mail. Save 50% when you buy 25k award miles or more. limit 150k miles which costs $2821 after discount and fees. is this a good deal? TIA!
Am I right in saying that this is not such a great deal if you are arranging a round trip? I see many RT dates in January and February for conventional economy fare tickets for as little as $816 on Turkish Airlines, and as low as $889 on United and Swissair for LAX-TLV, and in the mid-$700’s for JFK_TLV (on a quality airline). With a paid ticket you get miles, and more travel flexibility.
Or am I missing something?
I agree Joe, any of us missing anything?
@M. Serure: There are some connectiong flights that have you in Paris all day. No nights. enough time to go sight seeing.
@JJ: $2821 / 150,000miles = .0188 that’s less than 2 cents / mile. That’s a slightly better buy than the list in this post. So it’s a better deal than what Dan is telling people about.
@Dan’s the Man:
Yes.
@yitzchok:
Search on Delta.com for low level dates and plug the date into Flying Blue.
@JJ:
Not a great deal.
@joetraveler:
It’s good for one-ways, like I wrote in the post.
It can be good for RTs depending on your travel dates. And depending on whether you’ll fly via Turkey/Ukraine or would rather fly via Amsterdam/Paris.
Compare and see.
@ckmk47:
To go one-way to Israel buying United miles at 1.88 cents each would cost you over $800.
The deal in this post is $366 one-way.
Better to transfer from amex than buy no?
@dd:
Of course, as I wrote in the post.
folks , i flew this route from boston – its a good deal, but the air france coach seats are like spirit . extremely small and uncomfortable (especially the connecting flight from cdg-tlv)
I TRIED TO ASK FOR A ONE WAY DELTA & IT DIDN’T SHOW UP
CAN U TELL ME HOW
