This is the lowest price that I’ve ever seen this camera sell for.
I finally switched from 12 years of using a point and shoot digital camera to the NEX-6 last July. Some trip reports with NEX pictures include the Banff trip report, and some pictures from the Kauai trip report, the Maui trip report and NYC trip notes. Pictures came out significantly better than with a point-and-shoot even if left on the automatic setting, but instructions are provided on the LED screen for how to use all of the other settings as well.
It offers SLR type performance and sensor size in a compact and intuitive package. In fact it even does things better than an SLR, such as video. It’s bigger than the point and shoot you might be used to, but the pictures it takes are just incredible. In a pinch it can still fit into your pocket even with the 16-50 lens on, something that can’t be done with an SLR.
A versatile wide angle 16-50 lens is included but there are other interchangeable lenses you can purchase as your photo skills grow.
The NEX-6 also has a stunning digital viewfinder, allowing you to take pictures even in the brightest sunlight.

Ah, the age old question! How rough are you on cameras?
On computers I’d go for the warranty. On most other items I’d go for the points, but YMMV.

NEX-6 has a much larger sensor than the RX100, not even comparable.
NEX should also have faster shutter speed and you can change the lens (telephoto, etc).
