Related: iPhone 3G: Apple Still Doesn’t Get The Whole Battery Thing…
Today is the 30th day from the iPhone 3G’s release, the last day from which you can still escape AT&T’s clutches without paying an ETF.
According to Cnet, internet boards, including those on Apple’s own site, are ablaze with reports of the new iPhone dropping calls left and right and generally poor 3G coverage handling and reception. Apple and AT&T have been predictably silent.
Sounds like it’s time to return your impulse iPhone 3G purchase and hold out for the 3rd generation iPhone, or better yet, one that isn’t exclusive to AT&T and their highway-robbery iPhone pricing plans…

Wow Dan,
It’s amazing how much of an Apple hater you are.
@Zoli:
I’m actually not. I’m the first to admit that the iPod is really an incredible product and made MP3 players affordable for the masses.
But to pay $100/month for 2 years to buy a phone that has such poor reception and battery life????? Color me confused to say the least.
@Dan/Ctownbochur:
You might not be a hardcore hater, but if an article like this came out about the blackberry or any other phone, you know you wouldn’t post it.
And yes, every product has it’s problems. Nothing is perfect.
But you have to admit, the iPhone is really a revolutionary device. It’s really the only device you need to carry around. Yeah, I know if you’re tech savvy, you can do anything the iPhone does, but the method in which you do it is ridiculously backwards. The iPhone was the first device to take all the great features of smartphones and make them work right, and elegantly. The fact that you can load real, full content webpages is reason enough it is amazing.
Yeah it’s definitely got problems, but it’s definitely worth it.
Also, reception is pretty good in the NY area, never really had a problem.
So why did Cnet give it a 8.3 rating? The highest rating of any cell phone?
You can tell the pioneers; they’re the ones with arrows in their backs.
how can escape w/o an etf
@Zoli,
you’re right, dan wouldn’t have posted it about a BB or Palm… because they don’t have the ridiculous hype around them, and expect you to pay through the nose for it!
Sure, Blackberrys are terrible limited devices, but they do what they do well (email) and don’t pretend to be multimedia powerhouses or anything other than that.
The Palm Centro has its share of shortcomings (although I must admit they are less severe than the iphone3G rumors), and Dan I’m sure is aware of them, however for a phone that costs under $100 and no “special” plans required (the average Centro consumer pays $30-$60 a month for their smartphone plans), its not worth ranting about.
However when Apple steps in and claims to have this “Messiah” of a phone, in the classic Apple style, the thing had better darned be near-perfect.
With the amount of hype and fanfare this phone has, you’d think it would cure cancer. But, at the very least, it should just WORK as well as regular phones. But it doesn’t. And that’s why Dan taunts it.
Not to mention that Dan isn’t the only one… search around the current blogs- even Apple fans are disgruntled by the current release. Mobile Me is a considered a failure (Jobs even wrote an apologetic letter to their support team for jumping the gun on that one), the App store is creating all sorts of issues, the battery life won’t last a full day, calls and 3G reception are not working as well as they should, and the new white cases are starting to develop cracks with normal use.
The one thing even Apple haters could always say is that Apple at least releases solid polished products, and they are more concerned with the user experience than any other company out there (whether or not you think its worth their purchase or the hype they receive).
Sadly, this is not so with the new iPhone.

Bingo!
