The current list is valid for stays through 03/31. Hotels can sell out of discounted rooms quickly.
You can stay in any PointBreaks hotel for 5,000 Priority Club/IHG points. If you already have 5,000 Priority Club/IHG points in your account then you can buy increments of 10,000 points for $70 as described below.
If you don’t have points yet Priority Club sells 5,000 points for $67.50 or you can instantly transfer 5,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points to Priority Club. Not a great use of Ultimate Rewards points, but it allows you to start buying points for 0.7 cents each.
After you have 5,000 points in your account there is a “trick” to buy additional points for 0.7 cents each. You can book any cancellable 15,000 point hotel stay using cash and points for $70+5,000 points.
All you need to do is search for reward points stays in any metro area and you should find a hotel for 5,000 points+$70 like the one below. The room is normally 15,000 points but with IHG points and cash option you can buy 10,000 points for $70 when making a reservation. Just select the 5,000 points+$70 option to complete this purchase.
The $70 that you pay is nonrefundable so when you cancel the hotel you will actually get back 15,000 points in your account. Effectively you are buying 10,000 Priority Club points with this method for $70 or 0.7 cents per points.
Be sure to click on the rules during the checkout process to make sure that the room is fully refundable (almost all are):
In other words the cost per each 5,000 point PointBreaks stay is just $35 once you already have 5,000 initial points in your account.
Sample hotels for 5,000 points ($35) per night:
-Crowne Plaza Cleveland Airport
-Crowne Plaza Philadelphia/Bucks County
-Crowne Plaza Monroe South Brunswick, NJ
-Holiday Inn Budd Lake – Rockaway Area, NJ
-Hotel Indigo Boston/Newton
-Hotel Indigo Miami Lakes
-Staybridge Suites Detroit/Utica
-Staybridge Suites Cranbury-South Brunswick, NJ
-InterContinental Phnom Penh, Cambodia
-InterContinental Beijing/Beichen, China
-InterContinental Mendoza, Argentina
-Holiday Inn Resort Vanuatu
-Crowne Plaza Asuncion, Paraguay
-Holiday Inn Express Gibraltor
-Holiday Inn Prague Airport
-Holiday Inn Express Pretoria, South Africa
-Crowne Plaza Gatineau-Ottawa
-Staybridge Suites Guelph, Ontario

Anything in palm springs California?
Dan, ur absolutely amazing!!! The way u figure all these things out. Thank you!!
As to my understanding it’s $105 per night not $35, because you gonna end up paying 15,000 points which is 0.7 cents each and a total of $105.
PLEASE EXPLAIN. THANKS
@Avi:
Neither of those are good hotels.
@josh:
No, pointbreak hotels are 5,000 per night.
Hey Dan ,
I currently have 63k IHG points and want to book a hotel in mexico from 3/16 till 3/20 :
30,000 points per night
25,000 points + ‎ $ 40.00 USD per night
20,000 points + ‎ $ 70.00 USD per night
What do you suggest I do to make it the cheapest possible ?
If i go with the 20k points and pay $70 .and than cancel the booking will I get 20k points deposited in my account ?
@Levi:
No, you’ll be buying 10K points for $70, just like I wrote in the post.
If the hotel is less than $210 after tax than it’s not worth going down this route.
Hey Dan,
Thanks for the fast response.
Im Really trying to get what your saying but not quite there . are you saying that even if i go with the 20k +$70 and than cancel i will only get 10k points deposited in my account ?
and average night is
$ 310.00 USD ‎ …….$ 10.00 USD Add 1000 Bonus Points per night
‎ $ 25.00 USD Add 5000 Bonus Points per stay
‎ $ 335.00 USD
Hello,
Thanks for everything that you do. On a slightly different topic, what would be the best way to travel nyc to mia, on return making a stop in Toronto (YYZ) for a day. Can this be done with Avios that it should be like a stopover w/o having to use another 10k?
Thank You very much
Any way to get any decent deal on the intercontinental times square?
How do I transfer chase UR points to IHG?
Hi Dan,
I am new to IHG. On my account it says I am a club member, do I need to do something to become a preferred club member to take advantage of this process and if so, what do I do?
Also, to help clarify the “If the hotel is less than $210 after tax than it’s not worth going down this route.”, can you provide a breakdown of how you arrive at this number? It will help me narrow down exactly which route you are talking about and which reservation you are talking about.
Thanks.
@Levi:
If you have 20K and choose the 20K+$70 option and cancel it then you will have 30K in your account.
A gain of 10K for $70.
@John:
Avios don’t have free stopovers.
@Chikkymonkey:
Check how many points they require.
@Josh:
Online or call the number on your card.
@David:
Any member can do it.
The hotel the commenter asked about was 30K points. You can buy points via this method for 0.7 cents each or $210 for 30K.
As the hotel is actually $310 per night they can save $100 per night by buying points via the method laid out in the post.
It’s a long time I’m trying to find out where online I can transfer chase UR points to different platforms. Please post the link. Thanks

Dan, please! Gibraltar is a self governing British Overseas Territory, it is not part of Spain [Holiday Inn Express Gibraltor, Spain]. It has a thriving Jewish community and is a great place to visit. This hotel is actually in Los Barrios in Spain about 10 miles from Gibraltar. US citizens do not need a visa to enter Gibraltar but you must have your passport with you.
@Mendy: Mendy, Dan does a great job in running this site but please don’t use him as a baby sitter. The IHG list is very clear, Just go to California and see if there is anything listed for Palm Springs.
Dan I bought the 5000 points using your link a while ago and they still have not confirmed yet do you know how long it takes?
also could I make money from getting a lot of points using you’re way and reselling the points?
I always get a system maintenance error message when trying to view the pointsbreak list. Anyone get that too?
@mendy:
Not sure how long that takes.
The Chase transfer is instant. And the points via the method in this post are instant as well.
Let us know when your points post. Don’t forget to keep logging out and back in as just visiting the page again won’t refresh your balance.
@Cook:
Nope.
Hey can i match status from starwood to priority points / ihg?

is there any hotels in miami beach?
Purchased 5000 for $67 today Had issues booking 5000+$70
IHG Chat confirmed my room and all done
thanks dan
Nanach just look for 5000+$70
@nanach: look for 5000 + $70
Worked! Doubled up for 20k for $140. Just one glitch on the IHG website, when you choose 5k points + $70 for a 15k points reservation and there are less than 15k points in your account, an error message appears that you don’t have enough points (15k) for this reservation, even though you have 5k or more in the account. They reserved it for me via Chat Online with an agent. That agent acknowledged IHG has a problem on their website.
Thanks!
i bought 5000 points and when i try making a reservation for 5000 points plus 70 dollars a error message comes up that says that i need 15000 points in my account…do you have any input in this?
