I LOVE Polar Bear bags and have several 48 pack and 24 pack cooler bags that we travel with. Earlier this year, I was emailing Polar Bear founder Strud Nash about my love for their product and how I just wished they made an even larger bag with wheels that I could use for checked luggage.
After all, it’s no easy feat to shlep around multiple 50 pound bags full of frozen food (and the kitchen sink…I mean toaster oven) like we just did this past summer for a family trip to Alaska!
I wrote that it should be large enough to hold plenty of 9×13 pans and keep them frozen for days, and to have a window on the side for a name tag and AirTag.
Last week, Strud sent me the final product, the Roller Bear 60.
And it looks incredible, I can’t wait to travel with it!
I weighed my bag at just 9.7 pounds and it will fit more than any other Polar Bear bag!
Being able to wheel the bag through the airport instead of carrying it will be a real game changer:
It rolls easily and the flaps even have a magnetic closure system on the sides:
Inside, it can hold several layers of side by side 9×13 or full size 13×21 trays of food:
The massive box it comes in is also kid-approved:
As you probably know, I have a bit of a travel addiction. And while I enjoy a trip to Miami every now and then like everyone else, I don’t dream about flying to Miami. I loved exploring far-flung places like Longyearbyen, Palau, Tasmania, Zimbabwe, Patagonia, the Maldives, the Whitsunday Islands, or Antarctica! As a kosher observant Jew that means I have to bring my own food unless there happens to be a Chabad House with a restaurant at my destination.
On shorter trips, I just freeze food a few days before the trip and the food arrives frozen. But on longer trips, on trips when there can be weather that cancels a flight, or when the connections times are very tight or long I pack my items in a Polar Bear suitcase.
Food that’s been frozen solid beforehand will stay frozen for a few days in a Polar Bear suitcase without any ice. If you add frozen milk bottles or ice packs around the food it will stay frozen for few days longer. It truly opens up the world for anyone who needs to travel with perishables.
Previously, the 48 pack was the largest size that they made, but this new 60 pack roller bag means you can fit even more into one bag. The trick to expand it is to fill it up with warm water and let it stand with water in it for half an hour or so. After that, you should be able to fit about 50 pounds of food or about 2 dozen small trays of food in it, depending on how well packaged the food is.
You can also buy the 48 pack for 50% off with the code above.
There are only a limited number of Roller Bear 60s available, will you buy one before they’re gone?

Incredible
It really is! I can’t wait to use it.
No. It’s too expensive.
Fair enough, but it’s a quality product that really fills a need.
Its a niche product, for a specific use case.
50% off!
So next April, is that April 2025 or April 2026?
😀
I assume 2025.
Unless you’re flying business though, is this really worth it? Since we can fit 50 pounds in the 48 can version, which is less than half the weight of this one. I do love the wheels though!
1. It depends on what you’re packing. For bulkier items, you will be hard-pressed to fit 50 pounds into the 48-pack. This can also fit larger trays of food.
2. If you have elite status with most airlines, you also get 70 pounds.
3. Carrying a 50 pound bag is tiring! The wheels are a game-changing feature.
Maybe for packing lighter items that are large?
Thank you!
Enjoy!
Dan you got one for free? How?
Perks of helping design it!
Love that! Dan, you are an inspiration for me in how there is nothing that holds you back from pursuing your dreams and dreaming big.
In the dictionary under “No Excuses” the definition would be Dan Eleff
Looks great! Just bought one. Curious to see when they sell out…suspect today.
Enjoy!
Dan, Do you always fill yours with warm water first to expand fillable volume, then insert the frozen food? I see the benefit of that approach, but I also worry that it reduces the cold-keeping ability. Thoughts?
Only if we need some extra space in it.
Uch bought one a month ago.
Can never have too many! 😀
Uch, and I just recently bought two…
When empty does it squish down/fold to fit into another suitcase or is it a harder material?
The non-wheeled bags are more ideal for that.
Purchased! Game changer!
Enjoy!
Here’s a simple cheap idea which I always do. I put the polar bear cooler in a duffel bag and it rolls around perfectly (plus I can add more items on the side). It’s a lot cheaper than this cooler for those looking to save.
Interesting idea, but that’s pretty inefficient and heavy. You’re eating up a lot of your weight allowance just carrying 2 bags in one checked bag.
There’s also less insulated space in the 48 pack compared to the roller bear.
And if you fill your PB to 50 pounds, putting it into another suitcase would put you overweight.
Also, the cost of a PB48 and duffel is likely comparable to the roller bear.
Duffels are cheap ($20 at amazing savings) plus ~$100 for the 48 pack cooler. Re weight, the duffels have minimal weight and the new roller polar bear is probably heavier than the old 48 pack and duffel combined. Lastly, for the way home you can collapse the duffels into 1 and stuff in 2 empty polar bears. Just my two cents – it’s worked for us for years! Thanks for your advice on the original polar bear – and for all you invaluable trip guidance over the years.
Too expensive to justify upgrading my 48 pack but it looks great
Got 1! thnx
Glad I can forget about carrrying the polar bags around
What do you do with the bg on the return trip when all the food is gone? Can it be checked in empty?
Sure, why not?
Or fill it with souvenirs!
How does the 48 pack? Does it hold 9x13s like this one?
Thanks @Dan just ordered one. Excited to try this one out!!
25 dollars for shipping in a world of Amazon Prime was quite surprising though….
How does polar bear compete with YETI coolers?
YETI coolers are amazing but they are super super heavy. That’s why this product fills such an exact niche. I actually had access to YETI coolers last trip but couldn’t use them
Hey Dan, I was in Alaska this summer and I’m dying to hear about how your trip was. Can you post a trip review?
1. This is a unique product in the market based on size and weight.
2. Today I travel between Australia and US taking Frozen Food (Dairy to Australia, Meat to US) using Coleman Wheeled Coolers https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09HMZJCBL?tag=cl03f-20
These coolers are $50, 15x12x9 inch internal dimensions (so this makes this new cooler about double the size)
I have 3 that I have been using for years. Airline has only broken the wheels off one.
3. I recently needed something with that dimension sending food to Orlando on a plane. I bought from Lowes the 70lb cooler (classic)that has the same internal dimensions as this cooler is offering. Sells for about $80 and has the same weight BUT – no wheels, no locking mechanism, a little bit over Uniteds official travel dimensions. I transported it in the box that it came in. When you send things in boxes united (and I assume other airlines make you sign a travel waiver). FYI – last time I sent two of these to Orlando with Frozen food, I was at the 70lb mark, so this dimension holds exactly the maximum.
Summary – congratulations this fits a specific need for those Road Warriors that transport food back and forth. I will order one, but for the budget constraint, my other two options are great.
Wow, finally.
My main concern is not crossing the 70lb limit.
With so much space, and including the wheels, I feel it would be tricky.
Just weigh it, you’ll be able to put about 61 pounds of food in there with that allowance.
Not bad!
Tricky to pull the trigger when I already have 2 good PB already And they have lifetime guarantee
I could see some DDF members who might buy the used ones from you…
Dan why are there less than 100? The company should make much more
I guess they wanted to see how it sells first.
Wow love this!
Any code for free shipping?
Nope, I haven’t seen free shipping offers from them. You do save on shipping by ordering multiple items from them.
Just ordered one thanks!
I always wanted a polar bear but the lack of a roller option always held ne back. So I made do with Coleman roller with its subpar insulation.
This is a game changer for me.
Enjoy!
Another (far less expensive) option is to buy a folding luggage luggage cart to use with the 48 can bag. You can buy one on Amazon for $35 (such as the Mount-It! Luggage Cart, which holds 77 lbs and weighs less than 3 lbs). Just stick it in the bag (or another suitcase) when checking your bags. Obviously, the roller bear is larger and more convenient, but for those not able or willing to spend so much, it is a viable alternative.
How many were sold through DansDeals? All?
We don’t fly much, but we do often bring frozen/prepared pans of food when driving long distance. The wheeling sounds nice, but practically speaking, it’s just to and from the car.
Would this be the best product for that purpose? Or would a smaller/different design be better?
For to and from the car I just use an ice chest on wheels
Space is at a premium… Aren’t ice chests bulkier?
OOS
Dan – how durable are these polar bear products when checked into airports? Seen many suitcases damaged from checkin. Why the polar bear brand versus other competitors like Yeti, etc?
Extremely durable. Checked them dozens of times with no issues.
They also have a lifetime warranty!
I’m not aware of any comparable product out there. Link to one?
Is it only available in the color pictured? Looking for dark colors – practical for travel
