Last month’s quick takes on hotels and airport lounges was a popular post, so here’s a sequel of places that are now open and coming up:
- AMEX will open a nearly 16,000 square foot lounge Centurion Lounge in Salt Lake City Airport’s Concourse B next year. It will feature an outdoor terrace with mountain views, full-service coffee bar, a shower suite, and wellness room. AMEX already announced it would open a Centurion Lounge in Tokyo Haneda’s Terminal 3 next year and in Newark’s Terminal A in 2026.
- Hyatt will take over management of The Standard and Bunkhouse Hotels brands, adding 21 open hotels including The Standard, London and The Standard, High Line in New York City. They will be fully integrated into World of Hyatt. The acquisition also includes more than 30 projects. Hyatt will pay a base purchase price of $150 million, with up to an additional $185 million over time as additional properties enter the portfolio.
- The Park Hyatt Johannesburg is now accepting reservations from 10/15. The boutique hotel will only have 30 rooms. As a category 5 property, it’s a true points bargain at 17K-23K Hyatt points per night vs rates north of $600. Johannesburg has several phenomenal kosher restaurants with absurdly cheap prices, but sadly there’s not much else to do here other than use it as a base for hopping off to the Kruger National Park, Cape Town, or Victoria Falls.
- The Park Hyatt Sapporo in Hokkaido, Japan will open…in 2029. The Park Hyatt Kyoto and Tokyo are 2 of my favorite hotels in the world and I can’t wait to make it here one day! Combined with ATONA luxury ryokans, Hyatt really is going all-in for Japan!
- The SLH Sailrock South Caicos looks like an excellent use of Hilton points, with a Ridgetop Ocean View Suite with a private wrap-around terrace with expansive panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean and the Caicos Bank, a kitchenette, soaking tub, and an oversized walk-in shower for 130K Hilton points or 104K points on a 5 night stay. Not bad for a room with rates that are over $1,400 per night with tax! The catch is that getting to South Caicos is no easy task, but AA will add Wednesday and Saturday service from Miami to South Caicos Airport (XSC) effective 2/15. You can book that for just 4.5K Alaska miles!
- Turtle Bay Resort on Oahu’s North Shore is now The Ritz-Carlton O‘ahu, Turtle Bay after selling for $725 million. The 450 room resort is located on 1,300 acres of oceanfront property, far away from the hustle and bustle of Honolulu’s Waikiki. Points rates currently range from 88K-132K Marriott points per night.
- The S. Regis Bal Harbour was a gem under Starwood, but customer service fell to zero when Marriott took over. The S. Regis chain now has a 2nd Florida beach resort on the Gulf Coast as the S. Regis Longboat Key Resort opened this week. Points rates currently range from 90K-116K Marriott points per night. The 168-room resort includes a spa, a lazy river, a 350,000-gallon lagoon filled with sea creatures that guests will have the opportunity to swim with, and an 800 foot private beach. Hopefully, service will match the facilities!
- The Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur is slated to open in Q2 of next year on the top 17 floors of a 118 story Merdeka 118! That sure beats hotels built at the bottom of skyscrapers with no views.
The hotel will feature a spa and an indoor pool with a view:
- The Park Hyatt New York is far from my favorite Park Hyatt, with pricey rates, stingy elite benefits, subpar service, and rooms with no views, though it does have a great pool. The hotel will undergo a renovation to add and upgrade suites, and move the spa for its 10th anniversary.
Which hotels and lounges are you looking forward to trying out?

Unfortunately, Israelis are barred from visiting Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia).
Thompson South (Miami) Beach now taking reservations for February next year. Hotel looks gorgeous.
What’s with the Park Hyatt LA? Was supposed to open years ago no?
@Dan, which private waterfront or Overwater do you prefer that will have Minyan and some Kosher food options in the area as well.
Dan, you missed the big part. The sailrock provides a free transfer flight from PLS airport! And yes, even on point bookings.
Yes. Came here to say this.
Thank you! That was great!
This is an awesome article thanks so much Dan.
On a similar note, what do you think about publishing an article about luxury hotels with good points value and how to get there on the least points? Would be super helpful for booking hotels!
Sailock resort, when did Hilton take over? Do free night certificates work there?
Recently.
Sure!
Thanks, Dan.
