You can book travel at www.airfrance.us.

You can now book award travel on El Al with Flying Blue miles with no fuel surcharges. A flight from NYC to Tel Aviv will cost 45.5K miles (36.4K Citi points) in coach or 79.5K miles (63.6K Citi points) in business class. A flight from Tel Aviv to Larnaca will cost 5K miles (4K Citi points). See this post for more details.

You can book bargain travel on Delta as well with no fuel surcharges.

  • For example:
    • Cleveland-NYC for 6K miles (4.8K Citi points) in coach or 15K miles (12K Citi points) in business class.
    • Chicago-NYC for 10K miles (8K Citi points) in coach or 26.5K miles (21.2K Citi points) in business class.
    • NYC-Tel Aviv for 39K miles (31.2K Citi points) in coach.

Flying Blue also offers travel on Virgin Atlantic with lower fuel surcharges than if you book directly with Virgin.

For example:

  • A flight from JFK to London on Virgin on 1/29 would cost 10K Virgin points + $152 in coach, 17.5K Virgin points + $452 in premium economy, or 47.5K Virgin points + $1,027 in business.
  • Or you can book the same flight for 23.5K Flying Blue miles (18.8K Citi points) + $88 in coach, 33.5K Flying Blue miles (26.8K Citi points) + $152 in premium economy, or 69K Flying Blue miles (55.2K Citi points) + $228 in business.

Current rotating discounted Flying Blue promo rewards for travel on Air France or KLM include Atlanta, Dallas, Denver, Montreal, and Raleigh/Durhan to/from Europe for 15K miles (12K Citi points).

You can fly in coach to Israel for 30K miles (24K Citi points with the bonus) or business class to Israel for 82.5K miles (66K Citi points with the bonus).

You can also save an additional 25% for booking Air France/KLM award tickets for kids under 12! That means kids can fly in coach to Israel for 22,500 miles (18K Citi points with the bonus) or business class to Israel for 61,875 miles (49.5K Citi miles with the bonus).

You can get the flexible award calendar by searching for a mileage ticket with an account on airfrance.us just leaving the date blank when searching for an award ticket:

Business class from JFK to Tel Aviv for 82.5K miles:

Flying Blue charges 39K miles (31.2K Citi points) to fly nonstop between JFK and Tel Aviv. Child discounts don’t apply to partner awards.

Or fly from Los Angeles to Tahiti in lie-flat business class for 70K miles each way.

Award cancellations or changes cost 70 Euros (about $76) for regular awards.

Flying Blue miles require earning activity every 24 months to keep them active, so transferring miles will also extend the validity of points earned from credit card partners.

You can transfer AMEX, Capital One, Chase, or Citi points instantly to Flying Blue.

In reality, the difference in pricing between Virgin and Fly Blue is about the equivalent of 1.3 cents per mile—does this make sense?
Which method makes more sense to use?

wondering

do you get 25% discount for kids on partner airlines (on virgin metal for example)?
