Can this be used fir Israel?
@rip are u kidding? No.
@Rip: Not really because round trip to US to Israel is 80k. Round trip from Europe is 35k. So if you break it into 2 separate tickets it will cost you 83k; more than the 80k if you booked as one ticket. If you find a cheap cash ticket from Europe though, it may be worth it. Or if you find a flight to very western Europe,like athens, you can get a BA ticket for 1500 Avios RT. But be careful about the surcharges.

dont see anything on united calandar. dates and destination closest to israel?
Thanks
The closest to Israel is Istambul and then Rome.
good to have another option with a stop over in EU, but AA is only 40k for the winter and US is 30k if you have their CC
@al613: WHat do you mean AA is only 40k for winter? What are dates? You have link?
which avios airline would fly from ath or ist to tlv?
4500?
AA may ask for 40k, but many stops, and suepr high taxes. many stop in london, where taxes are very high.
@thingywingy: Europe: October 15 – May 15

@Rip:
Try wizzair.com, Hungarian airline. They have flights from European cities to TLV starting at about $40 one way. ( beware, they charge abt $30 for each bag and around $20 for a carry on that does not fin under your seat)
Sample:
CLJ ( Romania) to TLV February 2 = $41.65
BUD ( budapest) to TLV Feb. 2 = $53.03
Make sure to convert to USD on the right side where prices are displayed. Also doublecheck dates and times as they do not have a flight every single day from all possible cities.
If you want to check from which cities you can fly to TLV, try using TLV as your departure point and see where you can fly to from there.
Is there any availability for the 20% discount for NYC-VIE in January? I searched “only united flights” but it’s still showing flights operated through another airline.
@Cook: thanks for a great tip
Does open jaw only work with economy tickets?
Cook is right….Wizz Air out of Budapest is a great option. I should also mention Budapest is a wonderful city to visit, with one of the oldest and best preserved synagogues in Europe.
Wizz Air also has cheap flights between Budapest and Dubai if you’re looking for some warm weather and sunny skies.
Solid find!
there is a ton of options i can’t believe it!
Keep in mind that you can fly on AA to europe for 40K during the off season as a regular price, not a one time special.
United wants to throw a bone, after smacking in the face with the recent award changes.
@ David, what options did you find? dates? to?
TIA
is the 40,000 AA trip one way or round trip? any way to avoid the taxes in London?
@Dov:
Round trip. Use your AA miles on Air Berlin to avoid London. They have flights from JFK and ORD.
@Anonymous: @thingywingy:
U mean Eastern Europe = athens , not western Europe…
@Dan: Hey Dan! What’s the best method for using Amex points to book a flight from BWI/IAD/JFK/EWR/LGA to London r/t? Good value for your miles and no crazy fees. What would you recommend?
Thanks
@solmeir: And Athens (ATH)
Hi Dan,
If I have a reservation with United for high mileage amount for 75k pp and the lower opens up within 24 hrs, will I lose my kosher meal if I “change my flight” to the lower priced award of 30k on the same flight, will I lose my kosher or vegetarian meal?
Thanks, love your stuff
