Marriott has existing reciprocal partnerships with Emirates and United. The United partnership provides benefits like United Silver status for Marriott Titaniums and above and Marriott Gold status for United Golds and above. The Emirates partnership provides bonus Marriott points for Marriott elites flying on Emirates, and bonus Emirates miles for Emirates elites staying at Marriott.
You can now also link your Marriott and Singapore Airlines accounts.
You may want to wait to link so you can time that right though, as:
- Marriott Golds will be able to get Singapore Silver after taking 2 Singapore flights in 6 months of linking accounts.
- Marriott Platinums and above will be able to get Singapore Silver/Star Alliance Silver status for 12 months without any flight requirements and can upgrade to Singapore Gold/Star Alliance Gold after taking 4 Singapore flights in 6 months of linking accounts.
- Singapore elites can also earn Marriott status.
You can read the full details and benefits of each status level in this FAQ page.

What are the benefits of star alliance silver?
i cant figure out what happens for platinum lifetime after 12months? is this a one time thing, or it will just renew automatically?
If you are Marriott Platinum, it would seem best to to wait to link until you have a Star Alliance flight before linking right? Otherwise, the clock starts on your 12 month Star Alliance Silver period before you need it.
How long after linking will the *a silver be active?
