What’s the connection of Cheapoair? Not understanding the kuntz.

jordano

It’s a CheapoAir branded savings account powered by this company Accrue.

@shmu – Cheapoair is the one offering the 6%. From the linked page –

CheapOair will contribute 6% toward your trip in the form of rewards

Accrue savings is how you set up your savings and make the purchase to get access to the 6%. Seems like it is to encourage people to save before they buy. I like the idea here because I don’t have travel plans yet, but am happy to save for a few months before I make those plans. The FAQ says I can get my money back in full if I don’t make a purchase.

I signed up, did some comparisons before I did. Comparing to HYSA providing 5% APY – I think this depends a lot on how long one might be saving for. In my case I intend to save for about 3 months – that is a 6% return in 3 months or 24% in a year.

If I was to deposit $1000 initially and let it sit in the account for a year before making the purchase that is $60 in rewards or 6% APY. In my case I will be collecting that in 3 months or the equivalent of $240 over 12 months – 24% APY.

I did not find anything in the terms saying I could not combine the savings rewards with a cashback program, i.e. the savings can be combined with other reward programs.

Saving for 3 to 6 months (even 9) this yields a pretty awesome return far more than HYSA and cashback card offerings.

$150 max? So it’s only 6% up to 2.5k balance?

Jesse Costa

Yes that was my assumption too. I’m not about to do business out of reach for me – just to get the full 250. International travel is about 1500-1800 round trip to Asia.

Had my partner sign up as well – and if we both do this, it should be about 200-250 less.

This is great. Just opened accounts for me and my wife so that we can get $300 off our flights to Israel for Chanukah. Would be cool if I had a way of opening for my kids too so we could all get the free $150 towards the flights.

Bookings must be made prior to July 1, 2025 in order to redeem rewards. Any unused rewards will expire on that date.
