Airline cards are rarely good for spending, but they provide nice benefits like free carry-ons on basic economy fares, free checked bags, priority boarding, and more.
I often mention that having a United card unlocks an awesome benefit, significantly expanded saver award space worldwide.
While it’s nearly always cheaper to redeem United flights using partner miles after last month’s devaluation, partner airlines and non-cardholders can only book saver award tickets when there is availability in the X fare class, which is quite limited.
The ability to redeem United miles for expanded United saver award flights remains a very valuable benefit. Cardholders get access to book saver awards based on the XN fare class, which has much more award space available. It also adds value to Chase card combos and Ultimate Rewards points.
How much of a difference does it make?

You’ll find similar results on other United routes.
This card benefit has been around for years and somehow has survived United’s hiding of award charts back in 2019. It remains my favorite perk offered by an airline card.

Dan – what is baggage policy if using partner miles to book UA flight and use united CC for taxes? do you still get free checked baggage?
I’ve written posts on how to get that, such as this one:
https://www.dansdeals.com/more/dans-commentary/inbox-questions/travel-tips-getting-united-card-elite-benefits-booking-ticket-avianca-lifemiles/
Dan, Do you have a course or a recommendation for someone who is a complete novice to learn about this? I don’t understand the verbiage or process.
The nitty gritty is complicated and mostly irrelevant.
My basic point is that you’ll find much more award space at the lowest rates if you have a United credit card and are logged into your account when you search for award tickets.
The courses unfortunately were discontinued after people were irresponsible with the information they learned
Does it matter which United card one has?
I believe they should all offer this availability.
No. Even the no annual fee Gateway card would give it to you.
Dan can you confirm this? I assume I could apply for a new United card with a fee to get the sign up bonus miles and then downgrade it to the no fee card?

Would being 1k Member give you same benefits?
Yes.
does a united card give u a second bag free from ewr to tlv the first u get anyway?
Only the United Quest and Club cards do that.
Does the club card give a percentage of miles off on economy rewards?
Is this true for every card- even no annual fee?
lot of above dates not for shaboss observers….
I noticed this with a lot of saver award but wasnt showing on partner.. expanded saver doesnt seem to apply to business..
Expanded awards for business is only for elites.
How do you make sure that you register as a card-holder? I’m a card holder (recent), but I’m not showing up as one…
One related issue, what would be the best cc to get in Canada. I have a very large expense coming up and would like to get the benefit of a good cc to earn miles with.
I think a great card would be the Aeroplan card from Chase, 100 dollars a year, and you get 25k status, and if you spend enough, U can get higher.
Check if it works for you
