FYI, IMHO, for those looking to filter out bugs, this does NOT do the job.
NYC’s water contains tiny shrimp called copepods. These microscopic crustaceans are not actually harmful at all, and are instead used to clear the water of mosquito larvae.
It seems these filters would work in NYC.

The level of filtration you get depends on the filter cartridge you put it- there are many levels available.
The price is very cheap- but this GE one has plastic threads, that strip easily- I recommend the AO Smith line instead (sold at Lowes). You will need adapters and a hose to install this, so you will need a plumbing supply anyway. And if you are having someone else install it for you, this price is just a drop a the bucket.
