Air New Zealand and United have rare business class saver award space available between the US and Australia and New Zealand.
Availability is for the close-in winter season in the Southern Hemisphere, but there’s still plenty to do down under this time of year! It’s also the best time of year to visit the wonders of the Great Barrier Reef.
Read and discuss more on DDF in the Melbourne Master Thread, Sydney Master Thread, Australia Master Thread, New Zealand Master Thread, and Trip Notes Master Thread.
Below are sample routes with nonstop dates that have at least 2 business saver award seats available as of the time of this posting.
You can also connect from other cities to these flights on the same award ticket and from other cities in New Zealand and Australia on Virgin Australia and Air New Zealand.

How do you know if theres saver availability using the United website? Its showing 82.2k Miles at the flight I’m looking at but doesnt say Saver
That’s saver with a close-in surcharge.
Is there a dedicated thread where to post this kind of deals? I get them in real time from FM and others but never know where to post 🙂

Is it same price using vs to start on east coast
Yes
Vs can book you on ua?
but generally the lax / sfo to to nyc you want find in business saver so it will route you with a few stops…
i think will start seeing more of this as flights have been added and demand relents a bit..
before covid you were often able to find close in availability
i have also seen recently on the american flight to sydney a lot of saver awards…
@dan forgot to mention the 15% bonus to lifemiles
also aeroplan is now 87.5 not 75
Depends on the route.
United isn’t showing Air New Zealand availability (only singapore codeshares), and calling Virgin Atlantic they say that the flights on united.com are UA metal and can’t be ticketed. The Air NZ flights that are Air NZ metal (that Virgin Atlantic agent can see) are every other day and will not give confirmed seats to Virgin Atlantic to ticket on any day.
Air New Zealand doesn’t show award availability even on their own website.
What am I missing/doing wrong? UA is showing 80k saver award LAX-MEL but those can’t be ticketed on VS for the 62.5k.
Thanks
The Air NZ flights are to AKL, not MEL/SYD.
Seems to be dead
